Video Transcript for Yakima HullyRoller Roof Rack Kayak Carrier Review

Today we are going to show you the Yakima HullyRoller roof rack kayak carrier, part number Y04035. The HullyRoller is a half system that can be used on either the front or the rear crossbar of your vehicle. You will need to pair it with either another set of HullyRollers or a different system. Today we will be using a set of Mako saddles in front, part number Y04037, and our HullyRollers in the rear. These versatile rollers make it easy to load and unload your kayak by allowing it to roll off and on the roof. The heavy-duty padded buckle strap will secure the kayak to the roller. And, because the buckle is padded, it will protect the vehicle and the kayak. Also included is a bow/stern tie-down strap that can be used to attach the bow or stern of your kayak to your vehicle. The HullyRollers require a minimum crossbar spread of 24 inches from the center of the front to the center of the rear crossbar. They are also covered by a lifetime warranty. 0:59

We already have a set of Mako saddles installed on our front crossbar. We are going to attach our HullyRoller set to the rear crossbar. The first step of assembly is to attach the clips to the crossbar. We will install two close to the driver side and two closer to the other, passenger, side. Next we are ready to install our roller assembly on top of our clips. Make sure that the brake tab on the one roller is facing outboard on the vehicle. We will take our bolts and feed them through the roller assembly. Then we will feed them through our clips. And we will take the hex key wing nuts and use them to tighten the clamp at the bottom. Get them just snug enough to hold the rollers in place. Repeat the same process to install the roller on the other side. Before you go to load your kayak, make sure that the brake system on your roller is disengaged. Right now the brake is engaged so our roller cannot turn. We will pull out on the pin and rotate it 180 degrees until it snaps back in to this grove. And now our roller will work. 2:09

Now that we have both the HullyRollers installed in the rear and our Mako saddle installed up front, it is time to get the kayak out and adjust them to fit properly. First we are going to lift our kayak up over the saddles and set the kayak down in it. Once we have our kayak set down, we can adjust the saddle and the HullyRollers to fit the hull of our kayak. Once that is set, we will be able to roll the kayak on and off using the HullyRollers. Now that we have our kayak in place and the cradles set where we want them, we are going to lock our wheels and install our load straps. We are going to take our padded, heavy-duty load strap and throw the strap on top of our kayak. On this side of the vehicle, we will feed our strap underneath the bottom of our crossbar and we will throw it back over the kayak. We will feed it back under the crossbar on this side and through our buckle assembly. Now all we have to do is pull down on our loose end and the strap will tighten down. Take the excess and wrap it out of the way. 3:10

Up on the front, we need to secure our heavy-duty strap to our Mako saddles. Now that we have our Mako saddles and our HullyRollers in place and our kayak secured, we are ready to move on to the bow/stern tie-downs. For that we will be using the anchor strap kit, part number Y04046. We will just take our grab handle and install our tie-down strap to it. We will hook the other end of the strap through the anchor strap that we just installed. And take the loose end and feed it through our cam buckle strap on our kayak anchor point. We can wind it up out of the way. That does it for the Yakima HullyRollers, part number Y04035.
