Zoot suits are not a prerequisite to own the Yakima SwingDaddy. All you need are bikes that deserve the absolute best in transportation and safeguarding. SwingDaddy will take care of up to four of your "babies" with its cutting-edge design and safety features.

SwingDaddy hinged arm

What distinguishes the SwingDaddy from other racks is the hinged arm on which the carrier mast is mounted. SwingAway technology allows the rack to pivot away from your vehicle, creating unrestricted rear cargo access.

spring loaded pin and boltSwingDaddy pull pin

When traveling, the mast is secured with a spring-loaded pull pin and hand-tightening bolt. When you want to swing the bikes away from the vehicle, simply undo the hand knob. Then pull up on the spring-loaded pin at the base of the mast. As you push the rack to the side of the vehicle, you will notice the upright bar rotates to keep the bikes away from your vehicle. Once the rack has swung all the way out, the upright bar will lock into place with the same spring-loaded pin used to release it from the base. You can also slide another pin into the arm to lock the extended portion of the arm in place. The hinged-arm feature can be used even when your rack is at full capacity.

SwingDaddy folding armsquick-release trigger button

Thanks to a quick-release trigger button on the top of the mast, the carrier's wide range of motion does not impede its storage capabilities One push of the button and the dual arms fold down and out of the way.

wide view of cradlesunderside view of cradles

The dual arms feature anti-sway (Premium SwitchBlade) cradles that slide on tracks to adjust to and stabilize the bikes. The cradles are locked in position by folding out the bottom anti-sway cradle. Soft rubber straps help to secure the bikes, while the bottom attachment points reduce bike-to-bike contact during transport. The cradles are mounted on the inside of the arms to make loading the bike onto the rack effortless.

narrow arms front view

The narrow-set arms create a versatile mounting platform to accommodate a wide variety of bike styles, reducing the need for a bike adapter bar. Arm padding - made of soft plastic - provides additional stability, ensuring that your bikes arrive in the same condition as when they were mounted on the rack.

back view of integrated lockview of lock post

The mast contains an integrated (LockDown) security cable that locks your bikes to the carrier. The cable remains hidden in the upright bar of the rack when not in use and locks with a pin at the end of the left arm.

sturdy hitch tongue and lock

A heavy-duty (RocSteady) hitch tongue keeps both the carrier and your bikes stable during transport and features an anti-rattle device that reduces noise and movement in the hitch. The carrier includes a hitch bolt and lock to secure the rack to the hitch. The hitch lock features an SKS Core, utilizing the same key as the cable lock.

bottle opener close

SwingDaddy features a premium, metallic, powder coat finish to keep your investment looking new for years to come, and built-in bottle openers mounted on the end of each arm for convenience. The SwingDaddy fits all 2" trailer hitches and comes backed by a lifetime warranty.

Yakima SwingDaddy 4 Hitch Bike Rack Review

Video Transcript for Yakima SwingDaddy 4 Hitch Bike Rack Review

Today we are going to cover part number Y02422 from Yakima. This is Yakimas SwingDaddy Hitch Mount Bicycle Carrier. This rack is designed to work in 2-inch receiver hitches only, and it can carry up to four bikes. The first feature we will show you is the anti-rattle hitch bolt. This goes into where the hitch pin goes, and it threads into place. All right, and then once you have it in place, you can tighten it down with the supplied tool. Next, you can install the safety pin clip or add the supplied lock, which covers up the hitch pin, too. Next, we will show you the best feature about this bicycle rack, and that is the swing-out feature. First off, you want to take out your safety pin, here, and then undo this bolt. Then pull up on this pin, and you can swing it out. You can take this upright, here, and rotate it, and then you can move the whole assembly away from your vehicle, allowing you access to the back of your vehicle. Put your safety pin back in so it cannot come back around, and you can get in the back of your vehicle.

Next, we will show you the arms themselves that actually fold up. Right now, they are in the stored position, but to fold them up to make them ready to hold a bike, pull on this little button right here - pull it toward you - and raise up on the arms. All right, next we will focus on the cradles, here. When the anti-sway cradle is in its folded-up position, it is easy to move back and forth on the arm itself. So you can position each individual cradle to make room for your bicycles. And then the other cradle that will be on the other side of the bike is a little tighter fit, and it does moved back and forth, but it is just held in place by friction. Next, we will show you the security on the bicycle rack. It has a little cable lock that comes out from the back side, here, and you can run it through your bicycle frames, and it locks into place right here. All right, let us go ahead and load up a bike.

Set the bike on the cradles and then pull down the anti-sway bar. And then just pull the strap into place and latch it. Same thing for the other side. And yes, you can actually do the swing-away function with the bikes on the vehicle. Again, just pull out your safety pin here, undo your bolt with the handle, then pull up on this pin, and you can unfold it. Rotate it backward, stand straight out, and then push to the side. Insert your safety pin back into place so it cannot accidentally swing back into you, and you have full access to the rear of your vehicle. And that covers the review of part number Y02422 , the Yakima SwingDaddy.

Bought the SwingDaddy to carry bikes on the back of my Nissan Titan while simultaneously carrying kayaks on the top of the LEER camper shell (Yakima racks there too) and camping gear in the shell. Assembly and installation were a snap; the rack feels rock solid on the truck and the swing-away design works like a charm. The locking cable is a great feature, though the instructions say to pass the cable "through the bike frame". That's the way you would normally lock a bike with a cable but the way this rack is designed, if you put the cable through the frame the bikes can come right off without unlocking the cable. All in all, very satisfied with this rack.9858

underpromised, Overdelivered eTrailer did everything they were supposed to do. Order arrived about a week before I expected it. Product price AND total cost were unbeatable. The Yakima rack has also exceeded expectations. eTrailer is certainly one of my half dozen preferred vendors. ...Bob4609

This product is well built! I had some concern about the strength of the rack before I bought it. 4 bikes is a lot to have hanging off the back of the car. I was impressed with the rack's construction as it has a substantial amount of metal to give it the strength it needs to do the job. For those with a rear wheel spare, you may need to purchase the 7" long hitch extension to get it out away from the wheel.20413

  • Will Yakima Swing Daddy # Y02422 Or Thule Revolver 4 # TH964 Fit 2009 Toyota RAV4 With Spare Tire
  • On your 2009 Toyota RAV4 you would need to measure to see if either one of these hitch bike racks will clear the spare tire housing on the back. If you measure on the vehicles hitch, from the center of the hitch pin hole back to the furthest point on the rear of the vehicle, which will be the back of the spare tire housing, that measurement will tell you if the bike rack will work. If the measurement is less than 11 inches then the Yakima SwingDaddy 4 Bike Hitch, # Y02422, will work on you

  • How to Load a Womens Frame Bike on a Yakima Hanging Bike Rack

  • Center of Hitch Opening to Back of Upright Bar Distance on Yakima SwingDaddy and Thule Revolver
  • For both the Yakima SwingDaddy, # Y02422, and the Thule Vertex Swing 4, part # TH9031 the distance from the center of the trailer hitch opening to the back of the upright bar when the carriers are fully extended, is 36 inches. I have included links to video reviews and installation details for both racks below. For the Vertex Swing 4, I would recommend the locking hitch pin, part # THSTL2. For womens bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter

  • Compatability of the Yakima SwingDaddy for Use Behind a 2008 Phoenix Cruiser Model 2551 RV
  • The distance from the center of the trailer hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar when the SwingDaddy bike rack, item # Y02422, is fully extended, is 36 inches. Due to the construction of the rack, and for safety the rack only swings to the passengers side of the vehicle. Another drawback is that this rack is not designed for use behind an RV. The distance from the rear axle to the back of the RV is greater than on vehicles and produces more violent bouncing. We do have bike racks tha

  • Tilting Trailer Hitch Mounted Bike Rack for a Class II Hitch on a 2004 Subaru Legacy Wagon
  • You are correct. The only available trailer hitches for your 2004 Subaru Legacy are class II, 1-1/4 inch trailer hitches. I do not advise modifying the hitch in anyway. Making modifications will void the warranty and make the capacity unknown. Adding on a 2 inch receiver would not change the hitches capacity and a class II trailer hitch cannot withstand the stresses that would be associated with the operation of the SwingDaddy. I would assume the reason you prefer the Yakima SwingDaddy, # Y02

  • Can I Use The Yakima SwingDaddy 4 Bike Rack # Y02422 On Back of RV
  • We do have bike racks that can be used on the back of the RV and motor homes, but the item you selected, Yakima SwingDaddy 4 Bike Rack, part # Y02422, will not work. The reason for this, is there is a great distance from the rear axle to the back of the RV which creates more jarring and bouncing of racks and hitch accessories. For a 4 bike rack that will work on the back of your RV, we have the Swagman Standard 4 Bike Rack, S64400, which will fit a 2 inch receiver. If you will be carrying

  • Recommend Hitch Bike Rack That Will Also Allow Me To Tow A Trailer
  • Using a hitch bike rack like the Yakima SwingDaddy 4, part # Y02422, would not allow you to also hook your vehicle up to a trailer. You would need to use a towing hitch bike rack SportRack Escape 4, part # A30404TW200, which will connect to your 2 inch hitch, but also allows you to tow. A towing bike rack is mounted to its own shank which fits into a 2 inch receiver and also allows you to tow. Another option would be to use a dual receiver like the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount, part # D210. T
