The quality of the claw material is satisfactory, but the LNP should have been predrilled/tapped for easier installation. It is presumed that the end user has and can drill/tap the claw arm. Additionally, the LNP should be longer, as the claw on back side does not fit the upto brake backing plate which makes the plate difficult to press against the lug cap,if plate was longer, the claw would sit better against the rim/tire area and rest on ground as intended.

worked well, looking forward to using again shortly. Would have liked the lug nut cover plate to be curvedcircular for a better fit in addition to last years review.

This is a great product. The baked-on finish is very durable and being red deters a would-be thief from a distance. I like the plastic cap that seals the lock and would prevent ice-up. Lock quality and keys are excellent. The lock opens to a size sufficiently large to fit my T@G XL trailer’s 235/75R15 off-road tires. Initial fitting was by trial and error to be sufficiently tight so unit could not be slipped off the tire AND to have the metal plate cover the majority of the tire lug nuts.

This product has continued to do the job. I always position it so it’s easily visible to passersby. No one has tried to remove it to date! The lock has remained easy to use thanks to the plastic cap keeping it clear of dirt and water. I’d purchase again.

The claw is well made. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the plate covering the lug nuts is too small to be effective and will have to be modified. Additionally, the shape of "fingers" needs to be improved as it is currently designed they do not fit between the rim and brake drum of a standard 15" wheel/10" drum combination. As another line of defense against thieves it serves it's intended purpose. If nothing else, it looks the part.

by:

the claw is one of the best investments i have made to protect my new truck.my last one was stolen out of my driveway 15 months ago. will never get over it. yes, i think the claw is as much a visual deterrant as a mechanical but thugs will still have to take time to disable it. the plate to cover the wheel studs is a waste of time (sorry) i use 2 sets of wheel locks on each wheel. people come up to me constantly and ask about it. one secret i want to pass on is when you put the claw on, place the key lock down instead of up. that way they can't pick it (it can be done) a little more tricky to unlock but worth it. anyway, love the claw and may get another one..thanks

With over 700 car thefts in Toronto for the month of January 2023 we decided to add protection for our BMW X5. The Claw will do double duty to also protect our Jayco Travel trailer when camping.

We like the beefy build of the Claw as well as the visual deterrent to make a thief to consider an alternative vehicle.

We were disappointed with the lug protector. The protector is not a add on piece you just install. You need to drill a hole into the claw and tap the hole so you can screw the lug protector in place.

Overall, we are confident that the claw and lug nut protector will provide an additional lay of protection from opportunistic theft.

We have used etrailer for multiple products. As a Canadian we find the service, shipping and product selection to be excellent and strongly endorse etrailer as a parts supplier.

I bought the Club wheel lock for my trailer. The fork to the rear of the tire does not properly clear the brake disk assembly, therefore the Club unit mounts crooked. This makes it impossible to use the lug nut plate. I am resigned to using just the Club attachment.

by:

Had my trailer locked up on the job site with two locks on the trailer. They were able to remove the locks in the trailer was stolen.

Unfortunately as youve found, locks arent infallible. If a thief is determined enough, just about any lock can be defeated given enough time and the right equipment. The idea of using locks such as this one is to provide a deterrent. The hope is that the potential thief will see the highly visible nature of the lock and move on to something that will be easier to steal.

etrailer has been a much needed assistance to me. I don't know trailers well but they offer help every single time I need to call. Try them.

I still like the wheel lock and the options it gives me.

by:

I have two complaints about this product. 1) The plate which covers up the lug nuts does not come ready to assemble. A 6 mm hole must be drilled into the the claw. Lame. If you are that handy with tools, save yourself some money by cutting and drilling your own flat plate--that is all it is. 2) This lock comes with three keys and it is not possible to get extras. I am notorious for losing keys so I called Club to get extras--they said they didn't have any--I'd have to get them from a lock smith. And the two locksmiths I talked to said I'd have to get them from the company.

by:

Seems to be as advertised should deter most thieves/ wish the cover plate was all ready mounted..but nice unit

It keeps people honest, the wheel guard is nice to..

by:

etrailer is the ONLY place I shop for ALL my trailer needs. George and his etrailer family are the best, fantastic customer service and great knowledge, thanks once again. AAA

by:

Exactly as advertised. Fits well. I didn't use the lug nut protector though. It seemed to fit better without it. The lug nut protector may be more useful on a bigger tire. Mine was 225/75 R15.

by:

Installing the lug nut plate was not nice, they sent the screw that attaches the plate to the club arm, and instructions simply say to drill a 6 mm hole in the arm, but doesn't say anything about tapping the hole for the screw to screw in. If i wasn't mechanically adept and already knew how to do these sort of things, I would be SOL.
Otherwise, I like the device.
Richard

by:

This lock is easy to use, weathers well, and gives me a sense of security wherever the trailer is parked.

by:

the tire claw seem to work good, not to keen on the the the protector plate goes on. screws are not self treading. maybe the holes could be pre-drilled.

by:

The product came as advertised and was easy to install. etrailer was made the process a breeze. Thank you.

by:

  • Recommended Wheel Lock for Airstream Basecamp Travel Trailer
Our most popular wheel lock is the Club Tire Claw XL # WI491-491LNP. It not only clamps around the wheel to keep it from rolling it also covers the lug nuts to help keep a would-be thief from removing the wheel altogether. It will fit tires up to 12 inches wide so it will work just fine on your Basecamp. If you'd like more than one wheel lock, like for your vehicle, you can get multiple Tire Claws that use the same key using # WI491KA-491LNP.

  • Will The CLUB Tire Claw XL Wheel Lock Work for LT275/70R18 Tire on Truck
The CLUB Tire Claw XL - Wheel Lock # WI491 fits tires up to 12" wide. Since your LT275/70R18 tire measures 10.8" (according to the tire info) this will fit great for your application! If you wanted to go a step further you can get The Club Tire Claw XL Wheel Lock with Lug Nut Protector Plate # WI491-491LNP which is designed to discourage someone from getting at the lug nuts to remove your tire. • Is Drilling Required on a 2001 Ford Taurus to Use The Club Tire Claw XL, # WI491-491LNP
You will not have to do any drilling on your 2001 Ford Taurus to use the Club Tire Claw XL, # WI491-491LNP. The drilling mentioned is to attach that triangle-shaped plate to the claw arm. Otherwise without the plate, you would basically have Tire Claw, # WI491. In either case they clamp around the tire. The one with the plate protects the lug nuts. I have linked a video of the regular Tire Claw so you can see how it works.

  • Gooseneck Trailer Lock Recommendation
Based on your style of gooseneck coupler the only effective lock style I can recommend for you would be a wheel lock. For that I would recommend the # WI491-491LNP. This covers the lug nuts as well as locks the wheel so not only will the wheel be prevented from turning a thief wouldn't be able to remove the wheel either. I attached a review video for you to check out as well.

  • Lock Recommendation for Trailer with Auto Locking Gooseneck Coupler
The best solution we have is going to actually be a wheel lock since we don't have a lock setup that is recommended for an auto-locking Fulton coupler. For that I would recommend the # WI491-491LNP. This covers the lug nuts as well as locks the wheel so not only will the wheel be prevented from turning a thief wouldn't be able to remove the wheel either.

  • Fit of The Club Tire Claw Wheel Lock WI491-491LNP on 2014 Honda Accord Sport
As long as the tires on your 2014 Honda Accord are less than 12 inches thick (which they should be), The Club Tire Claw, part # WI491-491LNP would work great for you. I've linked you to a product demonstration video featuring the Tire Claw.

  • Why Is The Lug Nut Plate Not Already Attached To The Unit Or At Least Pre-drilled?
The Club Tire Claw XL Wheel Lock with Lug Nut Protector Plate # WI491-491LNP does not have the hole drilled and tapped because it is a universal fit. If the plate were already mounted in place it would limit the fit on certain tires. The plate is not required to be screwed into position in most cases as the location of the claw and the plate on the tire would prevent removing it or repositioning it. I've attached some videos of the installation for you.

  • Will the Lug Nut Protector Plate # 491LNP Fit the Stallion Trailer Wheel Lock # 288-02020
I went out to the warehouse and found that the Lug Nut Protector Plate # 491LNP did fit the claw of the Stallion Trailer Wheel Lock # 288-02020 but I am not sure if it fit far enough for a wheel. The claws on the Stallion lock have a wedge shape whereas the The CLUB Tire Claw XL # WI491, that the plate is designed to fit, has straight claws. I recommend using the plate on the CLUB Tire Claw XL as opposed to the Stallion Wheel Lock because of this. They actually come together as part #...

The Wheel Club # WI490 isn't going to make it easy to access the lug nuts but no, there isn't an adapter that complete covers them. For that I recommend a different version, # WI491-491LNP. I have linked a video review of it for you.

  • Is The Club Tire Claw XL Wheel Lock Easy to Open When Unlocked
If someone cut the lock on The Club Tire Claw XL Wheel Lock with Lug Nut Protector Plate # WI491-491LNP then it would be easy to open as you can see in the attached review video. This would is the same for the etrailer Trailer Wheel Lock # 288-02020 that you referenced. • Can the Club Tire Claw XL # WI491-491LNP be Cut Through
The The Club Tire Claw XL Wheel Lock with Lug Nut Protector Plate # WI491-491LNP, just like any other lock for any device, is more of a theft deterrent than a sure-fire way to keep someone from stealing your vehicle or getting at your wheels. Given enough time and the right equipment any lock can be beaten. Because of this (and to avoid would-be thieves from researching how much time they need) there are no "cut times" for the Club Tire Claw XL. If you don't like the design of this wheel...

  • Can Trailer Wheel Locks be Easily Defeated
I can pass along your lock concerns to the manufacturers. Any lock can be defeated given enough time and persistence. A wheel lock such as # RA-25 is a deterrent, as all locks are. If a thief wants that trailer bad enough, they'll find a way. Thieves have a tendency to pick the low-hanging fruit; that is to say that the mere presence of a lock is likely to cause a would-be thief to move on to an easier target. The traditional gooseneck coupler locks like the # BLTL-53-40D2 will not work on this adapter. We do have a few solutions though that will help with theft reduction though. First you can loosen the set screw that holds the inner coupler tube in, remove the coupler, and then store it in a locked vehicle or other location.
