Today we're going to be taking a look at the Tire Claw XL with the lug nut protector plate. This is part number WI491-491LNP. These are designed to work together. To start with, you've got your XL Tire Claw, vinyl-dipped here on the ends. That's going to protect our rim from scratches, dents or dings. We've got a lock core that's protected from the elements with a cap.

It accepts a laser-cut key. This cannot be duplicated. We're going to have great lock. We won't have to worry about it being it picked or have any issues like that. The keys will come out there. We also have the lug nut protector plate.

This is designed using a 5mm layer of aluminum on top, a 4mm layer of steel on the bottom. They bond those two together to give us a nice sturdy protection plate. The rear has the foam padding on it. When that goes up against the side of our tire, we're not going to have to worry about scratching or damage from this product, either. Typically, this would be placed on the Claw, just like that. Let me open it up so you can see.

Right here you can see that we've got a small threaded hole. To attach the plate to the Claw, we do need to drill a hole and tap it out to accept our screw. You will want to keep that in mind. I'm not going to install it on the Claw today. I don't want to drill a hole in somebody else's in case they decide they want it. We've opened our Claw up.

We'll bring it around our tire. Then it's just a matter of closing it. Now you can imagine our lug nut protector plate would be up right up against our lug nuts. That's going to protect anybody from removing those and removing the wheel completely. This gives us a highly visible way of keeping our vehicle from rolling, so it's going to prevent theft on, whether it's your vehicle, your trailer, your ATV, your boat, heck, even a golf cart. This Tire Claw XL is designed to accommodate up to a 12-inch wheel. The plate dimension is 2 1/4 inches long by 9 1/2 inches wide at its widest point. Now that we've seen how it looks, what it's made of and how it goes on our vehicle, that will complete today's look at the Club Tire Claw XL Wheel Lock with lug nut protector plate, part number WI491-491LNP. The claw is well made. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the plate covering the lug nuts is too small to be effective and will have to be modified. Additionally, the shape of "fingers" needs to be improved as it is currently designed they do not fit between the rim and brake drum of a standard 15" wheel/10" drum combination. As another line of defense against thieves it serves it's intended purpose. If nothing else, it looks the part. 249076

I have two complaints about this product. 1) The plate which covers up the lug nuts does not come ready to assemble. A 6 mm hole must be drilled into the the claw. Lame. If you are that handy with tools, save yourself some money by cutting and drilling your own flat plate--that is all it is. 2) This lock comes with three keys and it is not possible to get extras. I am notorious for losing keys so I called Club to get extras--they said they didn't have any--I'd have to get them from a lock smith. And the two locksmiths I talked to said I'd have to get them from the company. 11426

Installing the lug nut plate was not nice, they sent the screw that attaches the plate to the club arm, and instructions simply say to drill a 6 mm hole in the arm, but doesn't say anything about tapping the hole for the screw to screw in. If i wasn't mechanically adept and already knew how to do these sort of things, I would be SOL. Otherwise, I like the device. Richard 105819

I bought the Club wheel lock for my trailer. The fork to the rear of the tire does not properly clear the brake disk assembly, therefore the Club unit mounts crooked. This makes it impossible to use the lug nut plate. I am resigned to using just the Club attachment. 63144

the tire claw seem to work good, not to keen on the the the protector plate goes on. screws are not self treading. maybe the holes could be pre-drilled. 36076
