Video of Valley Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2"
Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer
installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Today we are going to install part number V82400, from Valley, a Class III receiver hitch, and we are going to install this on a 2009 Honda Odyssey. First we will show you where the hitch installs, starting on the drivers side frame rail: this threaded hole here, this threaded hole, and this hole right here. We will pull our hardware from the inside out. Going to the passengers side, above the exhaust here, it is going to use this threaded hole, this threaded hole, and then that is all it is going to use on the passengers side. There is an extra hole on the frame of the hitch for manufacturing purposes, but it is not going to be used.
OK, the first thing we will do is go ahead and lower the exhaust down here. What we will do is we will take off this rubber hanger right here and lube it down first - it makes it a little easier to pull off. The next step you want to do is inspect the threaded holes in the frame itself. What you want to do is spray them down a little bit, put a wire brush in there and try to scrape out some of the threads. And then run a bolt in and out a few times before you put the hitch up. In this case, it is virtually a new vehicle, and it is actually in very nice condition, so we will not have to worry about that today.
At this point we can go ahead and start installing the hitch, hanging the passengers side on the tailpipe itself to support that while you do the drivers side first, installing the bolts. Again, this is the whole that is used for manufacturing purposes, and it is not used on the install. All right, next we will go ahead and install our hardware in this hole here. We will use the access hole farther up in the frame and back through. Pop that inside and down through. Now we have got everything started. You might have a little bit of movement. Take a second to keep it as centered as possible and then go ahead and snug down the bolts. OK, at this point we can go ahead and torque down the bolts, as specified in the instructions. At this point we can go ahead and reinstall our exhaust hanger. OK, and with that, that finishes our install of part number V82400 from Valley.

Great looking hitch, but fitment was an issue The hitch arrive quickly and was packaged well. Although the installation instructions on the website and hitch were excellent, the holes were off approximately 1/4-inch. Consequently, the installation required two people and a pry bar to spread the hitch before inserting the bolts (much more effort than shown on the video.) Although this did not cause any damage to either the hitch or frame, it was disappointing that the holes did not line up. This is the main reason for my lower rating. The design looks better than the other hitches and appears to be very durable. 4372

Couldn't be Better First off-- excellent customer service; they called me about a problem with my credit card (I recently moved) and took care of it no problem. The hitch had to be back ordered but that didn't take long and it arrived when they said it would. Installing the hitch was simple. It fit perfect; the install video was spot-on, it was an easy job. However, NOTHING takes me 30 minutes (more like 2 hours!) but it was still easy. One of the biggest challenges was trying to figure out which socket to use-- the bolts are a bit of an odd size; large is about 18mm and the smaller about 17mm. Ended up with a 17mm deep socket for the smaller bolt and 19mm (close as I could find) for the larger. They both torqued down fine without slipping with those sockets. If you are working alone, two jack stands will help hold the hitch up while you get the bolts in place. My 2000 Odyessey had clean, easily identifiable bolt holes. I sprayed a little WD40 on the bolts and in the holes; went in no problem. No scraping/brushing required. But, I live in the desert and this car hasn't been "rusted". The hitch fit perfectly. Didn't need the large punches I got out to align holes with. The hitch looks beautiful on the van; this Valley hitch sits up higher and is more streamlined than many I have seen on Odysseys. I don't intend to haul heavy loads at all so expect it will perform just fine (I installed it and wrote this article the same day). All in All, I give E-Trailer and Valley Hitch both an A+ on this one! John from Boise...3411

Easy Installation, Looks Nice I haven't put this hitch through its paces yet, but it sure looks good on my '04 Odyssey. It was really easy to install, but make sure the mounting holes are clean. I did the install by myself in my driveway in about 15 minutes with the van backed up on ramps. No need to drop the exhaust if you have a 6" or so extension on your socket wrench. Only one problem - it was really slow to ship due to etrailer needing to order it from the manufacturer. If you need it quick, call first. Customer service was very polite when I repeatedly called to check the status of my order. Would definitely refer my friends and family to etrailer. Thanks!1623

2001 Honda Odyssey Install Ordered and shipped same day. Received hitch in four days well packed in a heavy duty cardboard container. Do yourself a favor and follow the instructions on the install video on the website and prep the holes where the the hitch will be bolted; you will save yourself time. The hitch fit perfectly. The holes lined up perfectly. The local shop wanted over $300 to install a similar hitch. I'm very glad I did it myself.1296

Looks good, fits good. My Valley V82400 arrived the same week I ordered it. I was very amazed at how fast etrailer shipped the hitch to me. My installation was for a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The first time I tried to attach the hitch I couldn't get any of the screws to go in. I was convinced there was no threads present in the holes. After looking around town for a 12mm x 1.25 tap but having no luck, I decided to take a shot with a battery terminal cleaner and some wd-40. Much to my amazement after working the holes for about 20 minutes the threads were usable. I guess in the video where the etrailer guy says, "I can't stress this enough - you need to clean out the threads" he should have said - "hey you, instead of jerking around town for days looking for a tap and breaking your back holding the hitch up trying to screw in a hitch when no threads are there, just clean out the threads like I'm telling you to". I did need to use a lever to push the flange out about a 1/8 of an inch when I bolted in the second side. I had to put a small amount of pressure on the gas tank to use as the lever. The hitch fits perfectly. I vastly prefer the style of this hitch to the straight bar hitch alternatives. I believe it looks very nice with the lines of the Odyssey. The 30 minute estimate is about right - spend 20 minutes cleaning out the bolt holes and 10 bolting it on. You won't need to drop the muffler but you will need a 10" socket extension to get around it. 1053

excellent fit, but DON'T FORGET TO CLEAN the threaded holes in the frame and run a bolt in and out a few times before you put the hitch up!!! Most of the time I spent was on one nut that was welded slightly off center relative to the hole on the Odyssey frame, so lots and lots of WD40, cleaning with a brush and elbow grease (at least 25 min of a 50 min job for this one hole). The 2 inch receiver opening sits slightly behind the bumper and the entire hitch is barely visible, just as I was hoping when I chose this brand over others21333
