Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Chrysler Aspen

Today on this 2008 Chrysler Aspen, we are going to install part number V82280 from Valley. All right, first we will go ahead and show you where the hitch mounts up to the frame of the vehicle. It actually mounts on the side of the frame using the existing bolt holes that are there. Right now there are bumper bolts that are going through the frame and the bumper bracket. Those will get replaced by the bolts that come with the hitch. What we want to do is go ahead and loosen these bolts up and replace the bolts one at a time because if we take out all of the bolts at one time, the bumper is going to come down on us. So what we are going to do is replace one bolt at a time. On this back bolt here, this is one of two that actually stays with the vehicle.

It gets pushed as far back as possible and then we will just leave that alone and then we will take these other two bolts out and replace those. The next thing that is going to happen is we are going to tap out the bolts and then reinstall the new hitch bolts. Once we have got all of the bolts installed on the passenger side, we will go ahead and repeat the same process for the driver side. All right next what we are going to do is install our hardware. If you notice, there is an edge right here that flares out from the bumper bracket. The hitch is going to sit on top of that so that is why our kit comes with these blocks, to help take up space. Put the second one on, and when we do, what we are going to do is push the bolts so they are just about flush because we need to have room to slide the hitch into place.

And it might be a good idea to loop some electric tape around it just to hold the blocks in place also. Installing a hitch, you are probably going to want a couple extra hands to do this because it is kind of long and bulky. All right, once you get it in position, you can go ahead and push the bolts in. It works best if you do the forward bolts and then the back bolts. And if they do not go quite in you can actually use a socket and just thread them in until they work their way through, or you can move the hitch and bumper around too. At this point we will go ahead and reinstall the factory nuts and we will go ahead and snug them back down. Okay, we will go ahead and move it on over to the driver side and repeat the same process. Once we have got our bolts snugged down, we can go ahead and torque them down as specified in the instructions. And when your bolts are tightened down, that will finish our install of part number V82280 from Valley.
