Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2003 Mazda Tribute

This install will also cover a 2001-2004 Ford Escape and 2001-2004 Mazda Tribute. First were going to show you where the hitch installs, as you can see here we already have the bolts pulled through the frame. Theres three and we did that is theres a hole at the end of the frame towards the bumper and we used a pull wire to pull the bolts through with a bolt leader. One other difference, if you want to take a look at some of the older models had a big heat shield here, you will have to take tin snips and cut it out, the instructions will show you where to cut. Well start by installing the hitch and resting the passenger side on the exhaust and well put of first fasteners on the drivers side and go back to the passengers side. We used a couple of nuts to hold everything in place, then well install all the lock washers and regular washers and nuts

Running the hitch up in the frame will give us more threads to work with while we put on our hardware. Now well repeat for the other side. Once we have our hardware installed, well take a moment to center the hitch on the frame and see how it looks on the outside. Then well torque down our bolts. Now that weve snugged up our hitch, were going to double check it and center it with the bumper the way we like it. Once we have that well start our final torque. That covers it for our install on our 2003 Mazda Tribute

Amzingly easy to install This took me 45 minutes to install never having installed a hitch before. On top of that, the way it is formed really hides the majority of the hitch just leaving the reveiver area visible when complete. Compared to others I have seen where the whole assembly is visible, this hitch looks really professional and blends nicely with the vehicle.2242

  • Receiver Hitch and Needed Accessories to Equip a 2001 Mazda Tribute for Towing
  • Installing this particular hitch on your Tribute should not be too difficult if you have average mechanical ability and access to a torque wrench. One of the connections on each side of the frame uses a weld nut, a nut that is welded into the interior of the frame member. Since your vehicle has a few years on it, there is a good chance that there is some corrosion and road grime built up in the threads of the weld nut. You will need to spray a lubricant like WD-40 into the weld nuts and scru
