This lock is for carrier to receiver security. Well show you how it assembles first, then well show you the lock applied to a bicycle rack. Before we can install the lock, there is a little bit of assembly required. First you have to open the hatch so we can the core, then you take off the back plug, and then we take our core and put our pass key in. After the core is secure, test the lock with the other set of keys. Now well try it on the pin. Since we have a bike rack installed on our two inch receiver, well show you how this works. Basically theres a lock washer that goes on first, then the flat washer. This is just like a regular nut and bolt assembly. Go ahead and install it to your bicycle rack. The kit provides you with a tool to snug it down with. Then we install the lock on the other side. There you have it, even if they unthread the bolt, they still have to get through the lock and they can not get the rack off. There you have it for part # STL2, the snug tite lock from Thule.

The THSTL2 Snug Tite-Lock is simple to use. The bolt shank the lock attaches to projects far enough beyond the receiver that it could be cut with an air chisel or hacksaw, particularly with a 1-1/4" receiver. I don't know if the bolt is made with hardened steel. Yakima's lock system looks very similar. This lock will slow down a thief and probably discourage them. I wish I could have had a choice on the lock cylinder--I have a Thule cargo box and I would have liked to have gotten a lock cylinder that matched the locks on the cargo box. 24804

For reasons unknown, Thule manufactures the TH958 Parkway bike rack to attach to a standard 2" hitch with a bolt that only goes halfway through the business end of the slinger. This lock unit also only threads halfway though and you affix the keyed end on the left hand side of the TH958. This works particularly well, if you are left handed. Why the TH958 was not tapped out throughout is problematic, because if it was, then you could place the lock on the left, or, if you are right-handed, on the right. The THSTL2 does protect the slinger section from being taken. However, this leaves the pivot section and the arm assembly vulnerable. Both sections are are affixed with hex screws and bolts that can easily be removed with two crescent wrenches. In order to remedy the situation forget the bolts and make the attachments with the hex screws and invest in a couple of stainless steel wingnuts. In order to make sure your unit will stay yours be best prepared to break down the rack and store it inside your vehicle. The wingnuts will make the chore easier. At 44 bucks and change it is not worth it. Perhaps Thule will one day address these issues. In the meantime, caveat emptor.79154

I purchased both of my boys these locks and the Thule TH9028 bike racks for Christmas. My youngest son notice his bike rack was super loose as he was driving home from college. He pulled over and soon realized somebody had tried to steal his Bike rack. They gave up when the got the the hitch lock. Saved us from a stollen bike rack. 72702

I just installed it a few days ago. Did not even tried it out on the road. The first observation is that the lock is not fitting tight but rather swinging around on the bolt body. Don't know why they called it "Snug tite", because it is not. Hope it will not be a detriment to its function.49203

The lock is very sturdy and easy to install. The locking cylinder is packaged separately and must be installed in the lock body. The instructions are simple and straight forward. The only difficulty I had was caused by my own clumsy fingers and impatients while trying to install the lock cylinder. Of course it was also after I had been working t assemble about 6 other things in a 95 degree garage. The bottom line is that if you want a way to secure watever you have in your hitch receiver, you can't go wrong with this lock.22171

It does the job, but at a hefty price. It comes in pieces, and I had to install the lock cylinder into case, a bit tricky with no explanation. The master lock or another brand, would probably give you the same protection at a lower price.18872
