Thule was founded in 1943 in Malma, Sweden as a metal fabrication company. It was a guy named Ake Skepner and Ake is A-K-E. And Ake was an exchange student in Minnesota. So loved the United States that he begged his father who was the owner of the company to come here and start a U.S. division of Thule and at that time wind surfing was very popular, so he came up with a wind surfing product and that is what launched Thule in the United States. So Ake established the company called Thule United States in New York City area and then eventually moved to Connecticut where they currently reside and Connecticut is manufacturing, sales, distribution, engineering, testing, and the U.S. market has been a great place for us ever since. 00:53
One category is called cargo and sport. And that would be all your bicycle carriers, both your hitch carriers, strap carriers, rooftop carriers. A category called work solutions and that would be all of your contractor grade racks, your toolboxes. Everything from the do-it-yourself up to your contractor grade professional and that is Thule branded product, that is also a UWS brand product, and then we do have an agreement with DeWalt brand to make all of their ladder racks and toolboxes. 1:23
That we are a global company, so we are selling in all markets we are manufacturing products in markets in which the end user lives so that we can be in touch with what the end user wants. We do not rely on a lot of off shore manufacturing, so we are using local marketing for all of our products and we get product feedback directly from end users and we approve product offenses and running change. You know, small things that people would want changed we do that. And then testing and innovation, testing being really the big thing. Thule being a Swedish company originally. They are very specific on how their test standards are and because we sell globally we have to comply with all global standards. We can not make a rack that is safe to use in one state in the United States, we have to make a rack passes all standards globally. And as most people know Europe has much tougher standards on products than we do so it is very imperative that we have the toughest standards. And we do and we are happy to show people how we test things and much more rigorous than any other manufacturers by a long shot. 2:39
We are going to revolutionize the strap rack market next year and I believe etrailer will be a part of that. The big deal with the strap rack is that we are going to have a strap rack that does not have straps. There will actually be cables not straps and there will also be no loose straps that flop around it will be a hub system in which it is lockable, which should be the first lockable strap rack. It will also be the first strap rack without straps. And we feel it will be much more fit, much easier to use, and we are bringing it in at a very affordable price less than even some of the competition that is still using straps on the racks, so that will be new. And then we are very proud to announce a global launch. This is another global initiative of our new traverse foot which will replace our 400 XT which has been our aero foot mount and it has been for 25 years it has been our go to mount. And we will be replacing it this year. It will be a phase in operation so we are not abandoning our old foot, we are coming out with a new alternative to that product and it will be much easier. It is 13 steps out of the box and on to the roof verses 27 steps what currently 25 to 27, which we have now or our competition has now. So, it will just be far easier for the consumer to use. It will have 25 percent more holding power than the current racks out there right now. It will be easy to put on the roof and it will take a lot of the guess out, the guess work out. We will be using a tool, which is included called an acutight measuring tool, which accurately measures the torque when you put it on the roof, so there is no over tightening or under tightening when it is on the roof. It fits perfectly on the roof.
