Video Transcript for Thule XB16 Tire Chains Review

Today we are going to show you part number TH01571250 from Thule. This is Thules XB16 tire chains. As shown here, the tire chains come in a nice carrying box. Also the kit comes with a pair of gloves to help keep your mitts dry while you are installing the chains. It even comes with a couple of extra repair links. And finally it comes with a little kneeling mat to keep your knees from getting wet while you are kneeling in the snow. These tire chains use unique, color-coded connection points to ease installation. Basically you are just matching color for color to put everything together. This is also compatible with anti-lock braking and electronic stability control systems on some of the newer cars and trucks. Actually this set is specially made for commercial vehicles, RVs and for off-road adventures, too. Construction is hardened manganese nickel alloy steel. The chain link diameter is about 16 millimeters and it has internal clearance required to operate within the fender well of about 16 millimeters too. This does come complete with a 1-year warranty. Now we will go ahead and show you how it works and show you a typical installation.

Get your chain out and go ahead and stretch it out and get it as untangled as best you can. What you want to do is take this blue cable and the chain and wrap it behind the tire first. Just leave it on the ground and push it around the bottom of the tire. You want to hook these two ends together but you want to do it on top of the tire. And this blue part of the chain stays on the back side of the tire. And then pull your chains out and make sure you have got this part of the chain, too. And next you want to tie the two red ends together. And then this long chain with the rubber strap goes to this buckle back here. And then pull it tight. Then catch it with this red hook here, run it through this clip, and then take your rubber end of the shock and get as close to the hook up here as best as possible. All right, and with that the chains are installed.

To remove the tire chains, simply reverse the same procedure. Disconnect the rubber strap, take off the chain. And when removing the chains, make sure red hook to the little red loop is on top of the tire. Once you get it unhooked from behind with the blue cable, you can lay it down. It might get caught underneath the tire. Just back up a little bit and then the chain is completely off. And there you have it for part number TH01571250 from Thule.
