How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle:

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates the width
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel expressed in inches

These chains fit the following tire sizes:

  • 215/65-16
  • 225/60-16
  • 235/50-17
  • 245/45-17

Thule CB12 Tire Chains Review

Video Transcript for Thule CB12 Tire Chains Review

Today we are going to show you part number TH01221102 from Thule. This is their CB12 tire chains. As you can see here, the chains come in a handy carrying case. I have one of the chains in the center also you have a package with some gloves that you can wear over your mittens and whatnot to keep them dry while you are putting the chains on. Also there is an extra pair of links so in the unlikely event that you break a chain you can fix it rather easily. Also there is a kneeling mat so you do not get your knees wet while you go ahead and install the chains. A few quick notes about these. It does feature color-coded connection points to ease installation. A plastic-covered cable runs from behind the tire to allow you to move the chain without moving the car. The links themselves are a dual-sided D-shape that provides greater traction. And also this will not mess up anything with anti-lock brake systems or electronic stability control systems. It is really designed for passenger-type vehicles. We will go ahead and show you how it fits and how it installs on a typical tire.

To install the chain, run it behind the tire and then bring the blue cable behind the tire and hook them up at the top. Then pull your chains from the back side up to the front, and your red loop here on the end will connect to this red hook here. Then kind of push the blue cable back behind the tire. And then this chain here at the bottom will go through this tensioner here. Hook it through this other loop here. And then this part you want to hook this end up as close to this red hook as possible, somewhere on this part of the chain. Okay, and you have them installed.

All right, to remove the chains, reverse the same procedure. Disconnect it, undo this, and then on top here with the hook, pull the blue part back in and just let it fall to the ground. And part of the chain might be trapped underneath the tire, so just let it sit wherever and just drive backward or forward, whichever is easier, to retrieve your chains. And there you have it for part number TH01221102 from Thule, their CB12 tire chains.

This is my third purchase from Etrailer. As always they delivered, again ahead of schedule. I can't give a complete review of the product because we are experiencing some unusually mild weather but I can say that the product arrived ahead of schedule, looks bomber, and came in a convenient carrying case. Previous purchases include a trailer hidden hitch and timbren suspension support for my 2007 Toyota Sienna. Both were supported by video/written instructions, available on etrailers website, and installed without a "hitch". Etrailer will continue to be one of the first websites I check for all my automotive needs!30510

  • Will I Need Snow Chains on both the Front and Rear of my 2000 Ford Crown Victoria
  • With a Crown Victoria, there will be enough weight pressing down on the front tires that you should not need them up front. But, since the Crown Vic is a rear-wheel drive car, you will most definitely need them on the rear tires. We are based in Wentzville Missouri and our only retail store location is here. We do regularly ship to the contiguous 48 states. And can ship to HI, AK and PR.

  • How Many Tire Chains are Needed on a 4 Wheel Drive GMC Sierra 2500HD
  • On a 4 wheel drive vehicle, you can put chains on all 4 tires as long as you are in 4 wheel drive. Otherwise the chains would go on the main drive wheels. In the case of a truck, that will be the rear wheels. You will want to consult the vehicle owners manual to determine what the manufacturer recommends for the use of tire chains on your truck. If it states that you can use them on all 4 wheels, you would need two sets. Or for just the rear wheels, one set. I have included a link to our tire
