Clearance Formula:
Use the formula below to ensure there will be enough space between your truck cab and trailer when executing a 90-degree turn.

(A + B) - C = Clearance
A= Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab
B= Length of Sidewinder arm (19K = 22")
C= Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

For example: If the distance from the center of the hitch to the cab is 36", 36" + 22" = 58". If your fifth wheel trailer is 102" wide, take half (51"), then plug in: 58" - 51" = 7" of clearance.

Sidewinder premium fifth wheel pin box coupler

1. Sidewinder Pivot Point - 22" behind the king pin
2. Rotating Turret - attaches to the pin box on the trailer
3. Universal King Pin Locking Wedge (not pictured) - prevents pivot at fifth wheel hitch
4. Fifth Wheel King Pin - attaches to the hitch in the truck bed for towing
5. Sidewinder Standard Arm - rated at 19K

Sidewinder premium fifth wheel pin box coupler eliminates need for wide turns

Nimble and quick. Up to 90-degree turning.
It is now possible to turn the short-bed truck 90 degrees with no fear of contact between the truck's cab and the coach. The included universal king pin locking wedge prevents the trailer from turning/pivoting at the trailer hitch. The rotating turret allows turning/pivoting to take place an additional 22" away from the cab.

Hitch Specifics and Wedge Locations
1. Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch and Reese 15K, 16K and 20K Select Series, Husky, Owens, Valley and similar units
2. Reese Signature Series and similar units
3. Holland and similar units

A. Bolt locations
B. King pin

Custom Wedges: The included universal wedge works great on preventing the king pin from rotating in most fifth wheel hitches. However, Holland and PullRite hitches will require a custom wedge.

Hitch Problems: The Sidewinder models will work well with all fifth wheel hitches, except for the Curt Q5 and the B&W Companion. The Curt Q5 cushioning allows too much movement for the Sidewinder to operate properly. The B&W hitch requires two additional bolts (1/2", grade 5) to be installed at the rear most support to keep the hitch from rotating. Check with B&W about warranty regulations.

  • Can a Sidewinder be Used with a 5th Wheel Slider on a 2009 Dodge 1500 Pickup
  • As long as the Sidewinder Fifth Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret by 5th Airborne, item # ST500-SW19K, is the correct fit for your trailers pin box (see link) it will work for you. When using a Sidewinder with a sliding hitch you need to make sure that you do not use the slide option when the trailer, with installed Sidewinder, is hooked up. Sliding the king pin back with the sidewinder attached can cause the pin weight to be to far back on the vehicle which causes unsafe conditions such as re

  • How Do I Determine Which Sidewinder will Fit my New 32 Foot Montana Mountaineer
  • You very well may be able to use a Sidewinder like the part you were looking at. The Sidewinder moves the pivot point to the pin box rather than the 5th Wheel, so that you do not have to use a slider with a short bed truck. In order to find out if there is a Sidewinder model available, you will need to determine the pin box model used on your Montana. You can contact the manufacturer or the dealer to find out what pin box is on the trailer if you want to order the Sidewinder ahead of time. Or

  • Will a Sidewinder King Pin Work on a 2009 Ford F-150 4x4 with a 5-1/2 Foot Short Bed
  • On your 2009 Ford F-150 with the 5-1/2 foot short bed a Sidewinder is required for you to have the clearance between the fifth wheel and your trucks cab when making sharp turns. The correct Sidewinder for your 2009 Ford F-150 depends on the make and model of the pin box on the trailer. The pin box number will typically be located on a sticker or stamping on the OEM pin box. You should also contact the trailer manufacturer to make sure the trailer frame can withstand the stress of a Sidewinder

  • Troubleshooting Hard Connect and Disconnect of Sidewinder on 2004 Montana 5th Wheel Trailer
  • There are several reasons why the trailer might be hard to connect and disconnect from the 5th wheel hitch. First, check the pin weight of your trailer. If the trailer has the truck suspension compressed a great deal then the pressure between the hitch and pin box can cause disconnect to be hard. Hooking up and unhooking on level ground is also a big factor in ease of hook up. Next, check the lubrication of the fifth-wheel hitch. Make sure all of the recommended locations are lubed correctly

  • Benefits of Sidewinder Versus Sliding Hitch for 2012 Dodge Ram Mega Cab
  • A typical sliding fifth wheel hitch can provide 10 to 12 inches of travel, gaining additional clearance between the front of the fifth wheel and the rear of the truck cab. Depending on the width of the fifth wheel, 90 degree turns might be possible without the fifth wheel striking the truck cab. A slider is not recommended for beds shorter than 6-1/2 feet. A Sidewinder would be used with a non-sliding hitch, and would provide an additional 22 inches of clearance, virtually guaranteeing cleara

  • Can a Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch Be Used with a Sidewinder on a 2006 Ford F-150 with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
  • A slider hitch with a Sidewinder can be used on your 2006 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 foot bed, but you will have to lock the slider hitch to keep it from moving. A Sidewinder cannot be used on a slider hitch that will slide because sliding the king pin back with the Sidewinder attached can cause the pin weight to be too far back on the vehicle. This will cause unsafe conditions such as reduced steering performance and overloading of the rear suspension. Another option, depending on which hitch y
