Clearance Formula:
Use the formula below to ensure there will be enough space between your truck cab and trailer when executing a 90-degree turn.

(A + B) - C = Clearance
A= Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab
B= Length of Sidewinder arm (19.5K = 22")
C= Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

For example: If the distance from the center of the hitch to the cab is 36", 36" + 22" = 58". If your fifth wheel trailer is 102" wide, take half (51"), then plug in: 58" - 51" = 7" of clearance.

5th Airborne Sidewinder premium fifth wheel pin box coupler

1. Rotating turret - attaches to the pin box on the trailer and provides the new pivot point 22" behind the king pin, allowing for maximum maneuvering
2. Rear mounted, heavy-duty shock absorber
3. Enclosed air spring - also absorbs shock and is protected from UV exposure and shielded from road hazards
4. Universal king pin locking wedge (not pictured) - reversible and adjustable - prevents pivot at fifth wheel hitch
5. King pin - connects to fifth wheel trailer hitch in truck bed

5th Airborne Sidewinder premium fifth wheel pin box coupler

Nimble and quick. Up to 90-degree turning.
It is now possible to turn the short-bed truck 90 degrees with no fear of contact between the truck's cab and the coach. The included universal king pin locking wedge prevents the trailer from turning/pivoting at the trailer hitch. The rotating turret allows turning/pivoting to take place an additional 22" away from the cab.

Hitch Specifics and Wedge Locations
1. Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch and Reese (15K, 16K and 20K Select Series) Husky, Owens, Valley and similar units
2. Reese Signature Series and similar units
3. Holland and similar units

A. Bolt locations
B. King pin

Custom Wedges: The included universal wedge works great on preventing the king pin from rotating in most fifth wheel hitches. However, Holland and PullRite hitches will require a custom wedge.

Hitch Problems: The Sidewinder models will work well with all fifth wheel hitches, except for the Curt Q5 and the B&W Companion. The Curt Q5 cushioning allows too much movement for the Sidewinder to operate properly. The B&W hitch requires two additional bolts (1/2", grade 5) to be installed at the rear most support to keep the hitch from rotating. Check with B&W about warranty regulations.

  • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer be Towed by a 2001 Ford F-150 Crew Cab with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
  • With a short bed truck with a crew cab like the 2007 Ford F-150, you would have to use a stationary 5th wheel trailer hitch and a sidewinder. Depending on the width of your trailer, you may not be able to make 90 degree turns safely even with a sidewinder. But there is a way to measure before hand to determine if you will have clearance. On the 2007 Ford F-150, the king pin center will be 1-1/2 inches forward of the center of the axle. So measure from that point to the back of the truck cab (

  • What Sidewinders and Replacement Pin Boxes Fit a Leland 7900 Pin Box on a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • I spoke with my contact at Reese and he stated that any of the 5th Airborne units with Sidewinders or Sidewinders by themselves that fit the Leland 7910 pin box will also fit the 7900 pin box. If you are just looking for an extension, I would go with the Sidewinder by itself. Use either, # ST400-SW16K for 16,000 pounds capacity or # ST400-SW19K for 19,000 pounds capacity. Either of these units offers 22 inches of extension. If you want an extension and a cushioned pin box for a soother ride,
