(A + B) - C = Clearance A= Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab B= Length of Sidewinder arm (16K = 22") C= Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half) For example: If the distance from the center of the hitch to the cab is 36", 36" + 20" = 56". If your fifth wheel trailer is 102" wide, take half (51"), then plug in: 56" - 51" = 5" of clearance. 1. Sidewinder Pivot Point - 20" behind the king pin 2. The included universal king pin locking wedge prevents the trailer from turning/pivoting at the trailer hitch. King pin Custom Wedges: The included universal wedge works great on preventing the king pin from rotating in most fifth wheel hitches. However, Holland and PullRite hitches will require a custom wedge. Hitch Problems: The Sidewinder models will work well with all fifth wheel hitches, except for the Curt Q5 and the B&W Companion. The Curt Q5 cushioning allows too much movement for the Sidewinder to operate properly. The B&W hitch requires two additional bolts (1/2", grade 5) to be installed at the rear most support to keep the hitch from rotating. Check with B&W about warranty regulations.
