Swagman Hitch Bike Racks - S64975
How does Swagman do it? A bike rack that folds down to give access to the rear of a vehicle, Kraton-lined rotating cradles to keep your bikes riding level, AND a ballmount so you can pull a trailer at the same time! Not to mention, a locking knob on the first cradle, so your bikes are secure without any extra investment.
XP Extreme Performance Folding Towing 4-Bike Rack for 2" Trailer Hitch Receivers
This innovative model merges towing capabilities with the XP series racks. Its steel construction provides lasting toughness and carries up to four bikes. Cushioned cradles on the arm rotate to keep wheels level to the ground. Additionally, the cradles help provide a scratch-free ride for bikes by using thick kraton vinyl cushioning with large grooves, which prevent bike cables from rubbing on the frame. They also prevent bikes from rocking back and forth during transit. The rack accommodates bikes with up to a 2" diameter frame, and the locking knob allows for a secure and quick unload. The rack tilts forward to allow easy access to the vehicle's rear cargo area. The bike rack has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. gross trailer weight and 350 lbs. tongue weight.

- Folding 4 Bike Towing Rack S64975 Length and Towing Capacity
- The length from the hitch pin hole to the ball mount hole on item number S64975 measures 25 inches. The bike rack has a tongue weight of 350 pounds and a towing capacity of 3500 pounds. I would also recommend product number DT6149, a cable and ball mount lock set for a 2 inch receiver.
This will decrease your tongue weight when you take into account the total weight of the bikes on the rack.

- Trailer Hitch Ball for Towing a Camper
- The 2 inch hitch ball is the most common, and will be fine for your application as long as you do not exceed the gross towing weight, (or GTW), of the vehicle. I would recommend item number 19255, a 2 inch hitch ball.
Please note, you indicate your trailer has a dry weight of 3000 lbs, and adding gear will put you close to the maximum. I assume the 3500 lbs is the maximum towing weight, or GTW, for your vehicle; the tongue weight, or TW, is generally 10 percent of the overall towing capacit

- Extending Safety Chains for use of Folding 4 Bike Towing Rack on My 2001 Nissan Xterra
- You will need to connect your safety chains to the safety chain loops on your trailer hitch. I would suggest using two of the Safety Chain Quick Links, item # 49135, and two of the 28" Long Safety Chain with 7/16" Hook, item # 2118-605-04, to extend the length of your safety chains when towing and using the bike rack at the same time.
If you find that the chains drag or hang too low and you cannot adjust the quick links enough to eliminate slack you can twist the chains somewhat to shorten th

- What Solutions are There for Towing a Trailer and Carrying Bikes behind a Ford Explorer
- The Swagman Towing rack, part # S64675 uses a one piece top plate to secure the bikes to the rack. This style of rack is more suitable for carrying bikes with a horizontal top frame. The Swagman rack, part # S64975, uses wrap around cradles that can be rotated on the bike rack tube to allow you to carry bikes with angled frame down tubes level . With a dry tongue weight of 303 lbs on the trailer, I do not think that either of these racks would be suitable. The tongue weight capacity is only 350

- On the Swagman Folding 4 Bike Towing Rack, part # S64975 the distance from the pin hole on the shank to the closest upright portion of the rack is 6-1/4 inches. You will have to measure from the pin hole of your hitch back to the point where it clears the spare to see if this will be sufficient clearance.
If you should find that this rack will not work for you, you might consider using a bike rack in conjunction with the Valley Trailer Hitch Ball mount, part # V75090. This set-up would place

- How Can I use a 4 Bike Hitch Mounted Rack on a 2009 Explorer with Factory 1-1/4 Inch Hitch
- There are adapters available, like part # HTAD. However, these adapters reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. The hitch on your Explorer is Class II, the tongue weight capacity would be 350 pounds. Cut that in half you are left with 175 pounds. Subtract from that the weight of the carrier, say 65 pounds for the XTC, you are left with 110 pounds capacity which would not be enough for the bikes and to compensate for the length of the rack.
Rather than using an adapter, i

- Trailer Hitch Mount Towing Bike Rack Recommendation for a 1999 Jeep Wrangler
- You will have enough room between the 1999 Jeep Wrangler and your trailer to use a towing 4 bike rack. Between the two racks you are interested in, the Swagman Original and the SportRack Escape 4, the best fit is the SportRack.
The SportRack Escape 4 Bike Hitch Mounted Folding Towing Rack, # A30404TW200, measures 7 to 10 inches (depending on which hitch pin hole is used) from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar, so there is more than enough space to clear the spar
