Roadmaster Tow Bars - RM-9400

Roadmaster Even Brake is a portable, proportional towed car braking system that is very easy to install and use. The wireless monitor keeps you informed of braking conditions and power levels while the included breakaway kit gaurds against towing system failure.

Features:

  • Inertia-activated proportional braking not only means quicker and safer stops, but less wear and tear on both the towed vehicle's and motorhome's brakes
  • Includes monitor and breakaway system
    • Monitor lets you know Even Brake is working properly and also notifies you when the towed vehicle battery voltage is low
      • If the battery's voltage drops too low, Even Brake cuts power to the system, while retaining emergency braking power
      • Monitor lights up, displays text of status, and gives audible alerts
    • Breakaway system activates the towed vehicle's brakes should the vehicle detach from the motorhome
  • Will not void car or RV warranties like other braking systems
  • Can be used on most any car with or without ABS brakes
    • Towed vehicle must have power brakes
      • If the towed vehicle does not have power brakes, the Even Brake will exert too much pressure on to the brake pedal and cause the towed vehicle to skid
  • Adjustable feet for cars with uneven floors
  • High performance air compressor takes less time to refill, making Even Brake ready for the next stop nearly twice as fast as the leading competitor
  • Seat brace also adjusts up and down to fit more vehicles
  • Simple installation
  • Made in the USA!

Specs:

  • Dimensions: 12" (tall) x 11-1/4" (wide) x 16" (long)
  • Voltage: 12 volts DC
    • NOTE: requires 15 amps of power to function properly
  • Length of power cord: 42"
  • Max amperage draw: 10.8 amps
  • Idle amperage draw: 47 milliamps

The Even Brake from Roadmaster is a compact, self-contained towed vehicle braking system that sits in front of the driver's seat of the towed vehicle. It easily attaches to the brake pedal and does all of the braking for your towed car proportionately to the motorhome. Do-It-Yourselfers will love the quick and easy installation. Hook-up and disconnect can be done in a minute or two. The Even Brake is very comprehensive and includes an emergency breakaway kit and a wireless brake monitoring system.

Proportional braking offers a distinct advantage over "on-or-off" systems, which brake at one preset level, no matter how hard the coach stops. Even Brake delivers full emergency braking when you need it, and won't cause excessive brake wear when you don't. Nobody brakes the same way every time - and neither does Even Brake!

Even Brake consumes battery power in the towed car as you drive. Roadmaster recommends that you start your towed vehicle after towing for more than 6 hours and let it idle 15 to 20 minutes to re-charge the battery. Included monitor will also notify you when the battery power is low.

It is pretty easy to attach to the vehicle and remove once you get to your destination. It is pretty light so it doesn't take much to move it.28689

  • The RoadMaster Even Brake System is connected to your Suzuki (towed vehicle) battery for power. The engine does not need to be running for the battery to provide voltage and power to the brakes. (Even Brake consumes battery power in the towed car as you drive. Roadmaster recommends that you start your towed vehicle after towing for more than 6 hours and let it idle 15 to 20 minutes to re-charge the battery.) • Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System on 1993 Honda Civic Hatchback
  • Yes the 1993 Honda civic has power brakes. If a car does not have power brakes the brake pedal acts the same when the car is running or not. On a car with power brakes, the pedal is much, much harder to push when the vehicle is not running. This system does not require the car to be running so the Even Brake must apply a greater amount of pressure to the pedal and that pressure would be too much for a car without power brakes. This is an excellent system for safety and conservation o

  • Necessity of Installing Battery Disconnect to Flat Tow 2010 Jeep Wrangler
  • From what I have found in my research, to flat tow the vehicle the ignition key must be turned to the first or accessory position. Even with all accessories in the vehicle switched off, this creates sufficient draw on the battery to discharge the battery gradually while towing. After around 5 hours, the battery will not have enough charge to start the vehicle. I have read that removing the Ignition Off Draw or IOD fuse from the fuse box under the hood will prevent this from happening. This wa

  • I spoke with my contact at Roadmaster and he said if your battery is reading 12 volts you will want to test the 12 volt outlet that the remote is plugged into with a voltmeter. He said on the Roadmaster Even Brake System, part # RM-9400, the remote needs to be receiving 12 volts for the unit to be working properly. If it is receiving less than 12 volts through the outlet it will give the Not Operational - Low Battery message. If the 12 volt outlet is not showing 12 volts you will need to in

  • For your 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, you will not have to worry about the brake lights from the towing vehicle interfering with the brake lights on the dinghy when the brakes and Even Brake system are activated. You will need to use a Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit, # RM-751439, for your vehicle. You will still need to wire the Equinox for towing just like you did the prev

  • Troubleshooting Roadmaster Even Brake # RM-9400 Detects Low Battery Voltage on a Charged Battery

You may need to connect the Even Brake, # RM-9400, to a different power source and see if that fixes the problem. The troubleshooting pages in the instructions only state to make sure the red wire on the ICX transmitter is connected to 12 volt power and the white wire is connected to a ground source
