Specs:

The RockyMounts PitchFork bicycle carrier attaches quickly and easily to your Yakima round or Thule square roof-rack crossbars. Simply use the steel plate to secure the rack's head to one crossbar. Then secure the rear of the rack to the other crossbar with the plastic bracket and wing nut.

The PitchFork's heavy-duty fork mount is designed to fit bikes with quick-release front wheels. Its disc brake cutout ensures that it fits both disc and standard brake systems. The standard-size (9-mm) quick-release skewer firmly grips your bike's front fork. The PitchFork can be adapted to carry bikes with thru axles by using the DriveShaft fork adapter (RKY1081 - sold separately).

The PitchFork has a ratcheting rear wheel strap that slides along the rack's wheel tray to adjust to different bike lengths, ensuring that your bike is completely fastened down.

Deter the theft of your RockyMounts PitchFork and your mounted bicycle with RockyMounts lock cores (sold separately). The cores are keyed alike and allow you to lock the bike to the rack and the rack to your roof-rack crossbars using 2 cores. Lock cores are available in convenient packs of 2, 4, 6 and 8, allowing you to lock all your RockyMounts racks with the same key.

Today were going to review part number rky0438 from RockyMounts. This is our pitchfork roof mounted bike carrier. A few features about this bicycle rack is that it will work on square crossbars and round crossbars. And this bicycle rack is designed for a fork mount that has a quick-release skewer on the front. The bike rack is also lockable with 2 cores that are available separately. The whole unit is 45 inches long and it can fit a variety of different tire sizes, from road tires to wide mountain bike tires.
It has a low profile design that helps with the wind noise and its created from a light weight corrosion resistant aluminum construction and powder coated steel plate up front. And this entire bicycle rack is made in the USA. Well go into a little more detail about how the bicycle rack clamps to the crossbars. I'll take off our lid right here and by the way, you can add a lock right here. Now our bicycle rack is held in place by a clamp which is right here and then there are 2 screws on the top right here.
Well go ahead and undo those so you can see how the clamp works. When its clamped onto the vehicle, then we can install the skewer which goes over the bolts. Alright, well take a skewer, well unthread it, then you can mount this in either direction, whatever way you prefer. You thread it together, and then when you have to unload, you are going to have this amount of space between. When you clamp it down to the forks, you twist it to tighten it up, then you take the handle, you can see how the lever pushes it together. This handle is very nice and easy to use and you can put a lock on this as well.
When your skewer is attached to the bicycle rack, you can take the cover and snap it back into place. On this part here you see a cut out section, on some bicycles, mountain bikes, will have a disc brake setup on the fork, it gives you a little bit of room for that assembly. This whole assembly up front here is powder coated steel and the rest of the body is aluminum. Now I will go ahead and show you how the back clamp works.
This is the actual clamp right here and you can see how it has a circular design. If you have a square bar setup, this little wedge right here, you remove that and its ready from the outside right here, pop it right out. Then take your U bolt, install it and then the wing nut or handle nut, leave it loose and you take this whole assembly and you slide it into this groove. You can move this anywhere you want on the bicycle rack to match up to the rack on your car, and then you simply just tighten it down. And then while were back here, the rear strap for the rear wheel. Push down right here to release the strap and pull it apart, then strap down your bike, thread it through and pull tight. Lets go ahead and show a typical application on some square load bars. Let us go ahead and take the clamp for the back bar and put it into place. Lets go ahead and take our bike rack, put it into place, well line up the grooves that are at the front of the bicycle rack with the bar. You can see how it fits into place. There is also circular grooves for the round bars as well. Well take our bolt that we slid in and run it through our back clamp. Then well install our wing nut, lets go back to the front of the bicycle rack and Ill show you how that clamps into place. Take our clamp, catch the edge up on top here and bring it up. Then well go ahead and thread in the hardware. Again we are just leaven this loose, to make any adjustments, make it straight on the car, now is the time to do it. Once you are happy with the placement, well go ahead and tighten down all the hardware. Take one half of the skewer, slide it into place and then the other half. Alright lets go ahead and install our protective cover for the top.It is that simple to install. Lets go ahead and load up a bike. We will make sure that our skewer is opened up, and our straps out of the way in the back. We will go ahead and load up a bike, well put a fork into the skewer first and then our rear tire into the back track. And this bike has a disc brake option, so you see there is room left over for a disc brake assembly. Alright well clamp down the skewer and affirm our bike is already secured. Lets go to the back wheel and run the strap around the rim. With those few steps, our bike is already loaded up and ready for transport. With that, that will finish it for our review of part number RKY0438 from RockyMounts, the Pitchfork bicycle rack.
