Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The double-eye spring is suspended at the ends by hangers that attach to its eye or, in the case of tandem-axle or triple-axle systems, into hangers in the front and rear and an equalizer or equalizers in the center. To determine the type of hangers or hanger kit you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring you have, as well as your axle diameter and capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications.

Please Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Today well gonna be taking a look at part number PR4, the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,800-lb Axles. Before you order a spring for your trailer, there are a few things you will need to know first. This spring measures 25 inches long by 1 -inch wide. You will need to know the springs half-length which is measured from the center of the eye mount to the center of the spring here at the leaf bolt. This spring has a 12 5/8-inch half-length. You will need to know the spring height. To get this height measurement, youll need to draw an imaginary line from the center of the eye mount on either side across.

From this line you can measure to the spring surface which will give you your spring height. In this case, it is 3 inches.Youll notice it has two 9/16 mounting eyes with nylon bushings within them. These nylon bushings help to prevent metal on metal contact while the spring is on the trailer. With its 4 leaves it has the ability to support 2,400 lbs. When you multiply that by two per axle, you get your 4,800-lb total capacity. And that does it for part number PR4, the 4-Leaf Double-Eyed Spring for 4,800-lb axles. .

  • How Thick is the PR4 Leaf Spring Spring Pack and Will the 2-3/8 inch Round Trailer U-Bolts Work
  • I went out to the warehouse and measured one of the # PR4 Double Eye Leaf Springs and the related parts that we carry. The spring pack is 1-9/16 inch thick, not including the centering bolt and nut. Each layer is approximately 3/8 inch thick. The 2-3/8 inch Round Trailer U-Bolts (Qty 2), item # SP01-040, are 5-1/2 inches long. The total thickness of axle, 2-3/8 inches and spring pack will be right at 3 inches. You will need to add the thickness of the spring seat, our spring seat # TRSS300

  • Replacement Springs for a 2004 Cougar Model 278 5th Wheel Trailer
  • Since the trailer manufacturer rates the axles at 3,500 pounds each, that means that the 4,400 pound axle has been derated because of the placement of the suspension hardware on the axle, to fit your specific trailer. This means that there is no excess capacity to take advantage of. Using a spring rated for a higher capacity than the manufacturer axle rating can cause other parts of the suspension, like the axle itself or bearings, to be the weakest link and take more abuse than intended, bec

  • Parts Needed to Replace Leaf Springs, Shackles and Hangers on a Tandem Axle Trailer with 3 Inch Axle
  • The # PR4 springs are not designed for use with a 3 inch Dexter axle. A 3 inch axle is rated for at least 6,000 pounds so you would need to go with the # PR6, 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring. The PR6 spring has a 24-7/8 inch length and will have the same axle spacing, 34 inches, as the PR4 spring that you referred to. You should check your current axle spacing or wheel and tire size to be sure the 34 inch spacing will provide clearance to mount the tires on your trailer. To install the PR6 Spring

  • How to Determine Leaf Spring Capacity for a 1996 Four Winns Tandem Axle Boat Trailer
  • You will need to determine the capacity of each axle on your trailer to determine the spring capacity that is appropriate for your axles. There should be a tag on the trailer tongue, or if not on the tongue, on each axle that gives you the axle weight ratings. Once the axle capacity is determine.d each spring should be rated for 1/2 of the axles capacity and measure the same from center of spring eye to center of spring eye as your original springs for proper operation. • Recommended Hanger Spacing For 4-Leaf Springs # PR4 on Tandem Axle Trailer
  • You mention that you have a tandem axle with 3 inch axles. A 3 inch axle has a weight capacity rating of 6,000 lbs to 7,200 lbs. The leaf springs for that axle would be the part # PR5. These springs have a weight capacity of 2,900 lbs and are designed for 5,800-lb and 6,000-lb axles. The PR4 springs you have mentioned show a weight capacity of 2,400 lbs. So two of the # PR4 springs are designed for 4,800-lb to 5,000-lb axles. I would recommend to check the weight capacity of your axles to ma
