Threadlocker 262 is applied as a liquid to the threads of screws, nuts and bolts before assembly. The red, high-strength formula keeps connections securely tightened, even during the most severe vibration, shock and stress. Threadlocker also seals out air, water and grime to prevent rust or other corrosion from forming, ensuring that the connected assemblies will remain sound for a long time. Uncorroded assemblies come apart easier and can be reused.

This threadlocker requires heat (500F) to free parts for disassembly with hand tools. Five minutes' application of a torch may be required. Disassemble while parts are still hot.

This threadlocker is anaerobic (hardens in the absence of air) and requires contact with an active metal to cure. Active metals (those that tarnish, corrode or rust) include brass, copper, bronze, iron, soft steel and nickel. If both parts to be joined are made of inactive materials, Loctite Klean 'N Prime primer must be applied to one of the surfaces for curing to occur. Inactive materials include plated parts, stainless steel, zinc, galvanized steel, magnetite steel, pure aluminum, titanium, magnesium, gold, silver, plastic, cadmium, Iconel, natural or chemical black oxide and anodized aluminum.

Klean 'N Prime can speed the cure rate of Threadlocker 262. This is especially helpful when you are applying the adhesive to any material, active or inactive, in colder temperatures (below 70 F).

Video Transcript for Blue Ox Base Plate Installation - 2010 Chevy HHR

There is a tab that you need to pull out and then pull down on the socket. It comes right apart. There is also a side marker light that is a little bit further up. We need to disconnect that one as well. To remove the fascia, grip it from behind and pull out towards you and up a little bit. And there is a tab that you have to push down here to release it as well. And this side here pulls away as well. It is a little bit tighter fit. Alright, and then repeat the same process on the passenger side. Now we need to remove the bumper structure which is this part right here and there are three bolts we have to remove. Now this top one we are going to leave in there with just a few threads. And we will go to the other side and repeat the same process. Then we will take the bolts off and remove the bumper structure. Now we can start installing the base plate itself. 2:14

The one thing you will note is on the 2010 models, they require this spacer right here. So this gets fit between the base plate and the frame structure. So what we are going to do is put everything together in one place. And how we are going to do that is actually just tape this spacer block to the base plate and then put all on one piece. At this point, it is a good idea to have an extra set of hands to help hold everything up while you mark the holes. Now we can go ahead and take down the base plate. We will start off by drilling a 1/8 inch pilot hole and then follow it up with our final size which will be a 13/32 drill bit. Next we are going to show you how the fasteners work. We will get our handle nut here. And you will also notice that we actually put an arch in here. That is because we will have to have room for the second handle nut to fit in right here because there are two holes in the bottom. Go ahead and install it into the frame. Make a couple of test runs before you put the actual base plate into place. You just slide it over the hole you are going to use. And then thread in the bolt. 3:17

Now we can go ahead and slide the base plate into place. It is probably a good idea to leave the spacers out. We always have enough wiggle room to tap those in later. We are just going to use a bolt to hold everything together. Now I took our handle nut and shortened it to make it a little bit easier to work around. We will just slide it underneath the wire of the first one. And for the final assembly, we will use a 3/8 bolt, the lock washer and we will use some red LocTite too. That is going to be part number LT37420. We will remove the first bolt and then install the lock washer and LocTite. We will go ahead and repeat the same process back over on the driver side. Now if you had to leave this off to install it, go ahead and reinstall the spacer. With those in place, now we can go ahead up our bolts from the bottom and torque them as specified in the instructions. And that way, that will hold the base plate in place firmly and we can use it as a template to drill out the rest of our holes. What we are going to do is use our final size bit and drill into it. We will use a pilot bit to go ahead and start off drilling. And then you will be drilling at a pretty good angle on some of them. Just make sure that your part of the drill here does not touch the radiator. 4:29

Now we will go ahead and start installing the hardware. We are going to start off by using our handle nut. We are just going to have to work it in a little bit. And then we can just use that to put the nut wherever we want. And on the bolt it will be the same as the ones that are on the bottom of the frame. Alright, once we have them all started, we can go ahead and tighten them up and torque them down as specified in the instructions. And we will go ahead and repeat the same process back over on the driver side. Once you have everything torqued down, you can take the extra ends of the handle nuts and go ahead and just break them off. Just work them back and forth or you can cut them. Now we will go ahead and install our safety cables. We will use a convenience link right here and this quick link. And we will just go ahead and install it. What we did is took our cable and we wrapped it around the sub-frame and back up to the link. And then give yourself some slack and then just run the link back together. With the passenger side done, we will repeat the same thing on the driver side. At this point, let us go ahead and give it a quick test fit of the fascia to see if we need to do any trimming or not for the tow bar. It looks like everything is good. So we will go ahead and put the bumper structure back into place and reinstall the fascia. We will go ahead and reconnect the lights from the side marker and the fog lights. And then we will go ahead and reinstall the rest of the fasteners for the fascia. Alright, now we will go ahead and install the tow bar attachment. There is a slot in there you just match up the attachment with the slot. Push it in and then twist. And it automatically locks into place. Alright, with that that will finish it for our install of part number BX1692.

I have used the LocTite products for many years. They make several grades of thread locking fluids, each appropriate for specific uses. Their products do exactly what they say they will; and will secure threaded parts from vibration or lock them together permanently. Your toughest choice will be in determining which product is most appropriate for your use. My recommendation is to start with the lowest strength and work you way up as needed. Just remember that without special tools, permanent means permanent with this product. The lower grades are very strong in preventing vibratory loosening.52040
