Brophy Hitch Accessories - HTAD

Need to put a 2" bike rack or cargo carrier in your 1 1/4" hitch receiver? No worries. Simply insert this adapter and off you go. It cannot get any easier to use and is certainly less expensive than buying another hitch!

This adapter allows you to use your current hitch accessories in either a 2" or a 1-1/4" receiver hitch.

Features:

  • Convert any 1-1/4" (Class I and II) receiver to a 2" receiver (not to be used for towing or with snow plows)
  • Has powder coated black finish

Specs:

  • Capacity: 300 lbs tongue weight
    • Note: Tongue weight capacity of hitch will be reduced by 50% with use of adapter
  • Measures 7-1/4" from pin hole to pin hole
  • Hitch accessory (bike rack, etc.) cannot be more than 3-3/8" long from the center of the hitch pin hole to the end of the shank (part that slides into the hitch)
  • Requires hitch pins and clips (sold separately)
    • Requires 5/8" pin for 2" receiver (PC3)
    • Requires 1/2" pin for 1-1/4" receiver (PC2)

Brophy Trailer Hitch Adapter Review

Video Transcript for Brophy Trailer Hitch Adapter Review

This product converts your 1 1/4 inch receiver hitch up to a 2 inch receiver hitch for certain applications such as cargo carriers or bike racks. Well show you how it gets installed on the hitch, its pretty simple. It just plugs in like so, install your pin and clip and youre good to go. A couple of things you want to take note of, the adapter itself is rated at 350 pounds of tongue weight. However, when its plugged into your hitch you want to limit your hitch to about 175 pounds tongue weight. Basically it cuts it in half. So if you have 350 pounds of tongue weight originally, with this adapter its going to cut it in half to about 175 pounds of tongue weight to deal with. Typical applications of this are bike racks, two inch cargo carriers will work on this, however you want to be careful how much weight you put on there. That pretty much covers it for part number HTAD, the 1 1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter bar.

Product was of excelent quality and exactly as described. The good dimensional infomation on eTrailer was most helpful in determining whether this product would work for me. Because of the excellent engineering info on eTrailer, I was able to determine the loading that I will able to carry and I learned a lot about the different class hitches and their ratings which was most helpful. Product arrived very quickly. I am using this product with a bike rack on my 1-1/4" car hitch. Great website and great service. What could be better. I would buy here again. Thanks eTrailer!!29471

WARNING: Does not fit a standard 1-1/4 hitch reciever... at least not without grinding the paint off. It appears the manufacturer cast it to the correct size, then painted it which added just enough so it will not fit. Pulling out the grinder this weekend to resolve the problem. Otherwise seems to be of sturdy construction.23811

Everything was delivered as pictured, service was fast and received in 5 days. This is going to be used for a bike carrier. Bike Carriers are more common in the 2", class IV (4) size that the Class III size of 1:1/4. I would use e-trailer again without question. Thanks for ordering so simple. 18958

Great, strong quality, but I wish it wasn't so long. My deer hauling hitch tray now hangs a foot off/away from the back of my little 2 door hatchback and with only 4"-6" of ground clearance. Really looks like an odd set-up. I should have measured better before ordering; now will have to only shoot small deer to haul.:-)8104

Great product, and right on time. The only thing I forgot was the pin to secure it in. I forgot it is shorter. It goes on my Polaris side by side to hold a bike rack while it is on a trailer. Works great. 17237

Bright for a 1 1/4 hitch on my Fiesta to put my 2 inch bike rack on the car. Solid constructions works as advertised. But.... The adapter does not fit tight in the hitch so the bike rack shakes a bit. I am looking for a locking, anti-rattle solution for it.11048

  • How Can I use a 2 Inch Bike Rack on 2008 Jetta with a 1-1/4 Inch Class I Hitch
  • We offer 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch hitch adapter, part # HTAD. However, using any adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half. When using this adapter, you will only be able to carry 100lbs on the hitch, including the weight of the bike rack, the bikes you are carrying, and also anything in the trunk or cargo area of your vehicle. The best way to use your hitch at its full carrying potential would be to use a bike rack that is specifically designed to work with a class I h

This ball mount has a 4-3/4 inch drop and measures 7-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball mount hole. It has a tongue weight rating of 300 pounds and a towing weight capacity of 3500 pounds. The pin and clip are included with this ball mount. The second ball mount

  • Can I use Hitch Adapter Part # HTAD to Use a Class 3 Scooter Carrier on my 1995 Ford Taurus
  • You can use an adapter like part # HTAD, but it will reduce your hitch capacity by 50 percent. Your hitch should have a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds, using this adapter would reduce the hitch capacity to 175 pounds. This means that the combined weight of the scooter and carrier must be 175 pounds or less. All of the 2 inch carriers we have are 80 pounds or more. We do carry a Scooter carrier for Class II 1-1/4 inch hitches. It is part # RHWC1114, and using this carrier would not reduc

Keep in mind that using the adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity of your factory hitch by 50%. If the tongue weight capacity of your hitch is 350 lbs, using the adapter will lower it to 175 lbs. This means that the hitch will only be able to withstand 175 lbs of downward force. My best recommendation for maximum safety would be to install an aftermarket hitch wit

  • What is the Gross Towing Weight and Tongue Weight Capacity of the Brophy 1-1/4 to 2 Inch Adapter
  • The towing and tongue weight capacities of the Brophy 1-1/4 to 2 Inch Adapter are dependent on the hitch itself. Find the tongue weight capacity and the towing capacity of your hitch. Once you find the capacities of the hitch, reduce them by 50 percent and that will give you the weight capacities when using this adapter. Check the owner manual of your vehicle. If the tongue weight or towing weight capacity listed in the owner manual is less than the hitch, you must take 50 percent of figu

However, if you are using the HTAD adapter, the tongue weight capacity is reduced by 50 percent to 100 pounds. Now, the carrier weighs 16 pounds and you said your tire and rim weigh a combined 71 pounds. That gives you a total tongue weight load of 87 pounds, still under your 100 pound limit. What you are he

On your bike rack, it the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to end of the shank is 3-1/8 inches, you will have 1/2 inch to spare and the bike rack will fit. • Is it Safe to Use a Trailer Hitch Adapter # HTAD on a Class I Trailer Hitch on a 2010 Kia Soul
  • It really depends on what you want to use the hitch for if you need an adapter. The trouble is that using an adapter like # HTAD or another adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. The hitches for your 2010 Kia Soul are all class I hitches with a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. Using an adapter will cut that down to 100 pounds. If you are wanting to use a bike rack or cargo carrier, you will be limited to carrying just 2 bikes and the combined weight of
