Today on this trailer we are going to install part number H20046. What this part number is is a replacement 7-pole connector. This one is a little bit corroded up, it has got some battle scars on it so we are going to replace it. This wire harness runs into this junction box right here. Some trailers have a junction box, some are just hard wired into the harness on the trailer, so in this case we will take the lid off of our box and disconnect the original wires. It looks like our junction box also holds the breakaway battery, we will just set that right out of the way and we will deal with our wires here. Lets pull it apart and see what we have got. 00:51

We have got our wires pulled apart from the box to give ourselves some working room and the first thing we notice is that the wires are color to color. Usually the wires come from the 7-pole will change over to different colors on the wire on the trailer itself. At this point since it is color to color it is going to be kind of easy. We are going to disconnect the wires and make some new connections. The only other variance is on the blue wire is actually going to connect to the orange wire and the black wire. The black wire basically goes to the breakaway kit and the orange wire goes out to the brake. 01:26

Take the wire nuts apart first. We will leave those two together. Do the ground. On the rest of the connections we will cut them and put new quick splices to reattach them. The wires are free from the old connector, pull it out. We have got the old wire harness off, what we are going to do is compare it to the new one and basically we are going to measure them up and even them up at the 7-pole connector itself and cut off the excess so it will match up what we had. We will use some tin snips to do that. We will run the new harness back through the original routing. Sometimes the diameters of the cable can change a little bit so if you have to run it through a grommet or something like that you just want to spray it down with some lubricant to help slide it through. This works really good in a situation like this where the bolt is really tight and it does not want to move and you end up stripping it so it might be best to leave it in place and work it this way. Run it through the hole there and then we will take a knife and cut the sheath off and cut down to the wires. 03:07

We will make our connections. Our new cable has a yellow wire here and that is typically used for reverse lights and in this case we are not going to use it so you can fold it back out of the way or you can cut it short, it does not matter. We are going to do just like before, we are going to use the quick splices to put everything together. One thing we want to make sure is when you use the quick splices make sure that the metal piece is going straight through and cuts through the wire and then it does not go from side to side. Once you have that done lets snap it back together. Sometimes you can squeeze it with your pliers to get that last little bit. Lets continue on to the next ones. The black wire is of course going to hook up to the black wire here and our black wire on the new harness is considered a larger gauge so we are going to use a little bit different quick splice on it designed for that purpose. Push all of that out of the way and on the last two wires we have to deal with were the ones with the wire nuts, that was our white and our blue. We are going to do the same thing with the white wire. Lets tuck the wires back in and it looks like the battery was sitting on top of it. With the wires and the battery tucked away we can put the cap back into place. With that, that will finish our install of part number H20046.
