Today we will show you part number ETBC7 brake controller installation kit. What this kit does is it fills in the blanks between your 4 pole connector and the brake controller. Basically on the instructions of your brake controller, it will show you a link between the foot brake and stop light switch, a battery, and then a line going out to the connector out back. This kit here fills in those missing pieces. We will cover each individual part. First we will start from the rear of the vehicle and work our way forward. This part here is 7 and 4 pole to 4 pole adapter. This will plug into your existing 4 pole that you have on your vehicle. It just plugs in like normal while this white wire gets grounded to the body of the vehicle. You will have a couple extra wires. The black wire will be ran to the battery. This blue wire here gets run to the blue wire on the brake controller.
Finally, we have this purple wire which gets run to the reverse lights. If you do not need this wire or the black wire you still have to connect the blue wire for brakes. On the 7 and 4 pole adapter it comes with this bracket right here that mounts to the bottom of your bumper or wherever you are going to mount it underneath your vehicle. It comes with 2 sets of screws. These small screws will attach it to the bumper or support bracket, whatever you use. Then these screws here will hold the connector in place to the bracket. This gray cable here has 2 conductors in it, one is going to be white and one is going to be black. What happens is, this wire is going to get split back and gets connected to the 2 wires on the 4 pole to 7 and 4 pole adapter. What happens basically is you are going to take your blue and black wire and run the black wire to the other black wire. However, you will take the white wire and run it to the blue wire.
This loom will cover up the wiring from the back end to the beginning of the wire up front. Next step is to run this cable back up to your battery. This will provide power for the black wire for a 12 volt power supply going out back. The reason you want to go to the battery first is because you are always going to have some left over. Approximately 5 to 6 foot and you would have excess wire that you will cut off and run it between your brake controller and battery. So you will have 1 black wire running to your battery and the other black wire will be ran to the brake controller. So you will have 2 connections coming off of your battery. After you have already ran to the battery for your hot lead you are coming back. The wire running to the battery and brake controller will need a circuit breaker. Depending on your brake controller it is going to be a 20 amp or 30 amp. Thats why supply 3 because different brake controllers use different amps. This 40 amp you will also want to install between the battery and 12 volt power supply going out back. So it is a pretty good idea to install these side by side. There will always be one left over. To make all these connections to the circuit breaker and wiring to the battery. The kit comes with all the ring terminals to make the connections. These 2 biggest ones will be going towards your battery. The 4 smaller ones will be making the connections to your circuit breakers. We also have butt connectors to make the connections between 2 wires from the brake controller and harness. Finally it comes with 10 zip ties to help secure any excess wires to the frame components and any other stationary objects.

The etrailer web site has instructions, but it is time consuming to find them, especially a schematic. Great Product that is EASY For everything you get in this kit, its a great deal. All the connectors, wire, zip-ties and the parts to complete this job are here. The 7-pin connector replaced the blank in the bumber area for an exact fit on my 08 dodge ram. Everybody loves the 4-pin with the 7-pin. It is out of the elements of weather and you don't have to get dirty to find the dangling 4-pin behind the bumber somewhere. Resettable fuses for trailor power and brake controller. I took all of my connections and wrapped them up with a whole roll of electrical tape(not supplied) behind the bumper so there would be no water getting into the connections. The hardest thing is acually running the wire under your vehicle. I kept my wire with the stock harness as much as possible, and it kept everything out of the way and neat. Would reccomend this kit to anybody that needs a 7-pin with only a 4-pin on their vehicle. 2038

Requires some common sense to install when running the duplex wire from the rear of the vehicle to the engine compartment and into the cab, but overall easy if you take your time. I was missing one of the ring- crimp ends to attach to my battery but otherwise all items where present. Also, would recommend a slightly more rigid mount for the seven and four pin wire socket. Somewhat difficult to install this product without vehicle-specific instructions. I installed this on a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe and had a difficult time finding an opening in the firewall to route the cables/wires. This problem could have been mitigated with a few helpful suggestions up front. Also, mounting the breakers is difficult due to a lack of room in the engine compartment. I did resolve all of these problems, but it took the better part of 7 hours. Regardless of the problems, all of the parts were of high quality and the final installation looks good.7196

Good, but needs instructions I've installed one of these before several years ago and just bought another for my new vehicle. There were no instructions with the kit and I was especially concerned about the three circuit breakers, all different sizes and no information about which one to use where or which end of the breakers is for the hot lead. Luckily, I had my old vehicle to use as a pattern but I hope eTrailer will do better in the future.1870

Installed this on a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder SE, with a factory receiver and 4 pin connector already in place. I've never done something like this before, so it took me a while - the better part of a day to be exact. The Pathy's factory 4 pin is on the driver's side, but the battery in the engine compartment is on the passenger side, in the front of the engine bay... the duplex cable supplied was long enough to make the initial brake connection inside the cab, and to the battery, but I did not have enough wire left to run the power lead from the battery to the brake controller. Also, because this was my first time doing this kind of install, I messed up a few of the connectors - the kit only has enough to make all the connections once - don't mess up, or you'll be short. I have to say though that everything supplied seemed of very high quality - I especially liked the 10 ga. duplex wire and the combo 4/7 pin box; very nice. I watched the video's of several different installs and I have to say they were super for confidence building - it really was pretty easy in hindsight, just very futzy-putzy for a 1st time installer. Can't wait now to pick up our new tent trailer next month! Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase - just wish I didn't have to make a 'parts run' in the middle of the install.9415

Brake controller installation It took longer that it should have to connect the controller, but I was being very careful, I would check and then double check to make sure everything was alright. I wanted to do a nice clean job so I took my time. The hardest part was making sure I had the right wire connected for the brake signal to the controller, but even that was not difficult to do. I took some pictures of when I started a task and the end result.4921

Perfect- 2001 Toyota Sequoia It was a breeze to install. Great product. The one difficult thing was making sure I soldered the correct wire to the brake pedal switch. I used a hertz reader to find out the solder joint (where wire connection was on the brake pedal switch) that was providing the power and did the quick solder connection. Perfect. 2904

The wiring kit had almost all of the parts needed - the cable was too short for all of the wiring. It would be good to have an option (even for additional dollars) to have more than the 25ft of cable ( 35ft option). Even the vidoe going through this had the same issue. However, this mandated a trip to the store to address. Everything else worked great.29033

Excellent setup, so nice that it's already wired into the 7 way and just plugs into the 4 way controller. I installed this on my '05 VW TDI Jetta Sedan, it fits perfect on the black skirt just under the bumper, so didn't need the bracket, but that made a great template! Not enough wire for a 2010 Subaru Forester and Tekonsha P3 brake controller. You'll need another 10ft of 10ga primary wire. I didn't have enough to run the power source for the brake controller. I also need to get another battery terminal connector as the kit only included 2 and 3 are needed (2 for 12v+ connections to the battery (brake controller, 12v aux power, and another for 12v- connection to brake controller). Overall the kit is a good starting point an the instructions make enough sense to get you going. 20951

Installing onto 2010 Subaru Forester... Overall the kit seems reasonable; it includes all the parts necessary to wire up the brake controller. A few minor gripes: 1. For my vehicle the wires on the jack are too short -- well, some of them. The purple reverse light wire and the chassis ground wire are a perfect length, but the brake wire, aux 12v wire and the 4 pole plugs are all on the shorter side. On my subaru I was able to make most of my splices inside the vehicle's spare tire well, but just barely. 2. The butt-splice connectors were crimped onto the brake wire and aux 12v wire incorrectly. They were crimped on so far that there was no room to get a good solid crimp and connection to the 10ga wires running from the front of the vehicle. I ended up cutting them off and doing a soldered butt-splice with heat shrink wrap. 20860

Product came as described. Hadn't wired a trailer in many years, and I think the 4 pole on the side of the 7 pole is simply awesome. The quality looks to be very good, clear, simple instructions are great. Plenty of length of wires to work with, went on great. Very pleased with the kit, even if costs more out the door, saves me a trip to the store!! My time means alot to me, buying something like this saved a bunch of time running around a Lowe's or hardware store to get it all together. Did my Jeep in about 90 minutes.20764

This item made installation of the Prodigy 2 brake controller to my Toyota FJ Cruiser a snap. The only controllers I've ever installed that were easier were on trucks that already had been prewired from the factory for a brake controller. Do yourself a favor and order the wiring kit when you buy your controller, you'll be glad you did. Thanks.20121

This product along with the great video made this job easy. I have a Jeep Wrangler so with the short wheel base I had extra wire left over. Maybe etrailer should offer a "long wheel base" kit with a few extra feet of wire....maybe charge a few bucks more to make those guys happy. If you think this kit costs too much you won't when you have the job done and you realize you had every thing you needed to do a good job. 19375

Great product! The wires are heavy duty and durable and the mounting hardware allows for several methods of installation. After running all the wire through the undercarriage and engine compartment on my X-Terra, I still had about 6ft left. As long as you are proficient with electrical wiring you should do fine. I used a dremel tool to cut a mounting hole through my bumper, which worked great, but an under-bumper mount could also be easily done with this kit. There aren't enough zip-ties in the kit but those are easy to come by.18778

The brake was mounted as shown in my pictures. Even though my 2008 Acadia did not have the towing package, the connector is there for the brake and by using a female push to connect crimp on I was able to use the connector to get my brake signal. See the picture of the connector. The battery in my Acadia is not under the hood but behind the passenger seat in the floor and therefore is a bit more of a challenge to run the power wires to. I have attached a picture of the battery bay and how I mounted the circuit breakers. I'm not sure how it is going to be to get this battery out when the time comes but I will leave that for another day. The only negative thing I would have to say about this is that there wasn't enough of the 10 gauge wire for my install. I was about 2 feet short and had to grab some from my work. 10261

I didn't need a single screw or wire, it was all in the kit. The on-line instruction from E-Trailer really made it simple to understand and install. It just took some simple hand tools.
