Today we are going to show you how to install part number E19148 from Erikson. What we have here is an E-track, this is the 5 foot long model. The actual E-track itself is 1/8 inch thick and the mounting holes are 1/4 inch in diameter. This assembly has a rating of 6,000 pounds. One thing you want to do when mounting the E-track is look for the wall studs on the trailer. In this case we are doing it on a wall but the same thing applies even if you are mounting it on the floor of a trailer. What you want to do is look for the studs in the wall. A dead giveaway, of course, are these screws that hold paneling in place. Across from here to here is the wall stud itself. It is basically a big channel with a couple flat spots on top to attach the plywood to.

Basically we just copied the same thing on our E-track and kind of bridged the 2. The whole thing is a little over 2 inches wide. So what you want to do if you have 1 you can find here then you can simply measure from the center and go out to the next one which is roughly around 24 inches, manufactures will vary. Then just copy those dimensions to the next stud. Then verify with the screws in the wall that are preexisting. Also what counts is when you go ahead and install the track make sure it sits as flat as possible on the wood. In this case, we did have some trim here but we simply took a section out so we could go straight across. We kind of cheated by following the edge of the trim, but at least it made it easy to keep it relatively level. When you have it on here, then you want to move it back and forth to find it at the best dimension and get it the way you want it.

This will cover 3 of the wall studs so you want to space the studs on the track as equal as possible. Once you get it set up and positioned the way you want it evenly over the studs, go ahead and mark off a couple holes on the studs with a marker. Something else that might be a good idea is to just throw a couple small screws in there to hold it up temporarily. The screws we are driving into the studs we will drill pilot holes for. Also remember the outside wall is about 2 inches away so do not go to far. You can even mark your drill bit so you do not go through both sides of the wall. After we have made our pilot holes we can go ahead and put in our fastener to hold it onto the wall. We are using some self tapping screws that are 1/4 inch in diameter by 1. You could use 1-1/4 inch also. Once they are torqued down put a tie down on it and give it a good pull. There you have it for part number E19148 from Erikson, the 5 foot 6,000 pound rated horizontal E-track.

Installing E-Track on 1 Inch Thick Wood Floored Trailer
A 1 inch think wood floor should be sufficient. I would use 3/4 long wood screws to provide some more gripping threads. I would use screws at least every other hole if not every hole, starting from the center and working to the ends to ensure the track lays flat. Use enough tension from the straps to hold the bikes securely, but do not over-tension them as you might blow our your fork seals.

Optimal Direction of Pull When Using E Track
In order to achieve the full capacity of the ratchet straps and the track, the direction of the pull should be parallel to the direction that the e track is running. How much the capacity would be diminished by pulling 90 degrees to the side will depend on the weight of the load. The E-Track Trailer Cargo Control # E19148 that you referenced has a protective, galvanized finish that protects it from rust and corrosion. Under normal use you would not have to worry about rust or corrosion even with an open trailer it should resist corrosion for a very long time.
