It's easy to remember to lock the bikes to the bike carrier, but some folks forget to lock the bike carrier to the hitch. With this keyed-alike set, you can do both! Although very economical, this set does not skimp on quality one bit.

This is a cable and ballmount lock set for 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch receivers. What this lock does is attach to your bicycle rack through your receiver and also the cable lock attaches your bike to the receiver and the bikes themselves. We have our example here of a typical hitch and a bicycle rack assembly. What we will go over is what the actual parts replace on the hitch. First we will demonstrate how the lock itself works. The lock will replace the pin here and it is a pretty simple device. Basically you hold the key stationary, and you can take the black part here and spin it. It comes apart and then just replace your hitch pin. And then you just reverse the procedure until it stops and then turn it backwards, maybe a quarter to half turn until the key comes loose. Then you put the cap back on and your bicycle rack is secured onto your receiver hitch. Going next to the cable lock, it works the same way as a receiver lock does.
Also in this case you can tell that you actually use the key sort of like a screwdriver to make it come apart. Once you have your cable freed up, unravel it and you simply run it through the chain loop, run it behind your bike rack, and through your bike frames. Then back down, taking up your slack anyway you can, maybe wrap around the bike rack itself, and then you just go ahead and put the two ends back together. You re-attach the lock itself and again the key works like a screwdriver. And that is it. Now all three pieces: your hitch, the bike rack and your bikes are all secure by one cable. We will start pointing out a few details about this assembly here, the cable is 5/16 thickness by 10 feet long and is plastic coated. The locks are patented and pick proof and resistant to corrosion and clogging. Both locks come keyed alike, so one key does both and they both are double layered chrome which resists rusting for a very long time. This combination is intended for 1-1/4 inch receivers. As you can tell, we actually used a class I receiver hitch. It will also work for a class II receiver hitch and virtually any bike rack that will fit in there. That cinches it for part # DT6148, the cable and ballmount lock set for 1-1/4 inch hitch receivers from Deadbolt.

The ball mount lock set advertised as easy to install, didn't fit the Thule hitch. The hole in the Thule hitch is smaller in diameter (also it's threaded to receive a bolt) than the diameter of the lockset shaft. 27220

Extremely well made and smooth functioning design. Keyed alike is a great feature and including 4 keys is icing on the cake as we have 3 vehicles the bike rack and locks will be used with. A key former each deivers keychain and a spare means no searching for and paying to have extra keys made.26734

No long enough for 2 bikes... After wrapping the cable through the wheels and frame of my bike and then to the hitch it looked, it can only lock one bike. It maybe the bike rack that I have, a Saris Thelma 2. If I don't attach it to the hitch, then I can loop the cable through two bikes. The hitch lock worked perfectly.756
