Worm Gear, Regular Drum Handle Drive - 1,500 lb
Applications requiring safe, controlled movement of loads need the Dutton-Lainson worm gear winch. The reel automatically stops turning whenever cranking is stopped. There is no free wheel mode, no special mechanism required to stop gear movement and they do not require a minimum load for operation.

To deal with the high angle your cable comes in at you could angle how you mount the # DL10950 so that the handle clears. You might have to come up with a custom mount for the winch so that everything clears.

If the cable size you plan on using is 1/4, 9/32 or 5/16 of an inch you would want a Cable Fastener # DL24362. If you plan on using a cable that is 3/16, 7/32 or 1/4 inch you would want a Cable Fastener # DL24361.

- You are correct, the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch you referenced, part # DL10950 does not have a freewheel mode. The cable or load stops when you stop cranking. To reverse or lower the load, you would crank the handle in the opposite direction, thus playing out the cable. To remove the line, you would fully reverse the handle to play out all of the cable, and then remove the nut from the cable fastener.
