Fits perfectly on my lowered 2002 Convertible mustang. I needed this extension because I could not use my bike rack due to clearance issues. I could also not use ones that most auto shops keep that converts from 1 1/4 inch to a 2 inch because the metal was too wide and would not slide under my bumper. Allows access to my trunk with plenty of space. Haven't actually put my bikes on it yet, but doesn't seem like it will be a problem. Fast shipping too as I bought on Sat night, received it on Thursday. Thanks etrailer. 29724

I needed the extension for a bike rack. Without it when I opened my trunk the handle bar would hit the trunk. Now it works fine.26313

For use with my hidden hitch on 08 Saturn Astra and an Allen bike rack. The bike rack didn't fit tight in the extender, alot of wobble. That was fixed by drilling another hole through the extender for the extra bolt provided with the bike rack. Works great now. 24413

First hitch experience as a single lady. eTrail had nice pictures so I could tell 7" was from hole to hole so that a whole 7" clearance would be added. Order the pin! Didn't know to order a pin, too. Next stop......22386

Its a pleasure dealing with a company that goes out of their way to make the customer feel taken care of and Etrailers is that company. The product was delivered earlier than expected. Etrailer personnel kept me updated on the delivery via email and it was just a pleasure doing business with them. I will kept this company in mind for future purchases. satified customer HD6324

Expert Answers about Hitch Extender for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receivers - 7" Long - D189 Do you have a question about this Hitch Accessories?

  • Will a Hitch Extender Reduce the Capacity of a Thule T2 Bike Rack # TH917XT
  • An extender will reduce the capacity of the hitch, not your bike rack, by 50 percent. Your hitch is rated at 200 pounds maximum tongue weight, if you were to use an extender, your tongue weight capacity would be reduced to 100 pounds. Subtract 55 pounds for the TH917XT and you have 45 pounds left for the bikes. As long as the bikes you are carrying weight 45 pounds or less, you can use the extender.

  • Is the Shank on Curt 1-1/4 Inch Extender, D-189, Hollow or Solid
  • The Curt 1-1/4 inch hitch extender, D-189, is a solid shank so you will not be able to use an anti-rattle device that goes inside the shank. However, we have other styles of anti-rattle devices that will work. The Boone Outdoor No-Rattle, part # 93347, wedges in between the shank and the receiver tube and pulls tight on the hitch pin virtually eliminating rattle.

  • Distance from Center of Hitch Pin Hole to the Rear Edge of Curt Hitch Extender, # D189
  • The distance from the center of the rear most hitch pin hole to the back of the extender (that slides into the vehicle hitch) is 1-1/2 inches on Hitch Extender, # D189. The use of an extender or adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch on your 2000 Chrysler Town and Country by 50 percent. Make sure that you stay within these limits or damage to the hitch or vehicle could occur.

  • Finding Required Clearance for Hitch Mount Bike Rack to Fit a Vehicle with Rear Mount Spare Tire
  • To determine how much clearance you will need to clear the spare tire on the back of your vehicle there is one important measurement you will need to make. First, place a long, flat object, like a 2x4 or yard stick, against the spare tire. Make sure it reaches the ground. Next, measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the board. That will be the distance you will need to clear for a bike rack. You will measure the bike rack in a similar way, from the

  • How to Select a Ball Mount for My 2001 Ford Escape to Tow a Small Tracker Boat
  • To determine the correct 1-1/4 inch ball mount to use on your 2001 Ford Escape you will need do a little math. Things like vehicle and trailer tire size and coupler height and hitch height require us to measure to get the correct ball mount to properly tow the trailer. Simply measure from the ground to the top of your receiver opening on the Escape, then measure from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler where the ball goes in, with the trailer frame as level as possible. • Anti-Rattle Device for Use with Bike Rack and Hitch Extender
  • We do not currently offer a locking anti-rattle device that will work with your extender due to the fact that the shank portion of the extender is not hollow. I wish I had an anti-rattle device for your application but we do not. If you decide to go with a locking hitch pin, do yourself a favor and record the key number and keep it in a safe place. If you should lose the key, we can provide a replacement if the key number is known. Please keep in mind that using the extender, although perf

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2006 Chevy Impala with Class II Hitch
  • Using a hitch extension like # D189 will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. Instead, I recommend going with a bike rack with a longer shank to negate the use of the extension. Take a look at the Highland SportWing Bike Carrier # 5801200. This bike rack measures 15-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the nearest upright bar. This will be more than enough to clear the back of the vehicle. I have included a link to a video review of this rack for yo

  • Looking for Bike Rack for 2005 Honda CRV to Clear Rear Mounted Spare Tire
  • Keep in mind that using a hitch extender or adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by half. The tongue weight capacity is the maximum amount of weight that can be safely suspended from the receiver opening without causing damage. If your CRV has a Class III hitch, the 350 lb tongue weight capacity would be lowered to 175 lbs. This means that the weight of the rack and the bikes placed upon it can be no more than 175 lbs. The Swagman XC, part # S64650 weighs approximately
