Convert-A-Ball Dual-Cushioned Adjustable Ball Mount Review

Video Transcript for Convert-A-Ball Dual-Cushioned Adjustable Ball Mount Review

Today we are going to review and demonstrate the Convert A Ball Dual Cushion Adjustable Ball Mount, part number cab-um. Convert A Ball Adjustable Ball Mount is made in the USA and is constructed of powder coated steel with interior poly urethane cushions and has a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 500 pounds. It is designed to use hitch balls that have a 1 shank diameter, and is covered by a 2 year limited warranty. Inside the shank is a set of poly urethane cushions, and in the back and in the front they are going to help take some of the shock out of starting and stopping. In addition to this set of cushions theres a second set of cushions inside the vertical shank. This will help reduce the shock and noise of any vertical load bouncing.

It can be used in both the drop position, like this or flip over to be used in the rise position. Now we will go ahead and install it on our truck. Just like any other ball mount we will slide it into our hitch and line up the pin holes. Once lined up we will install our bolt all the way through and secure it with our clip. Again it could be used in the drop position like we have it, or you can pull the ball mount out of the hitch and flip it over for the rise position.

To adjust the drop or rise, remove the clip from this pin, pull the pin out, adjust the shank to where you need it, reinstall the pin, and reinstall the clip. And that does it for the Convert A Ball Adjustable Dual Cushioned Ball Mount, part number cab-um. .

Two problems with this item. First, if you have any play between your receiver and the shank of this mount, you can't use most solutions to stop that rattle as the shank is solid. Next, there's also movement between the vertical pipe and the horizontal shank, enough that there is noise while towing, something I wouldn't have expected from a cushioned mount. I wound up swapping this with the cheaper 80412 that doesn't have these issues. 14511

The most critical measurement is going to be the measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole, to the back of the ball platform, which is 6 inches, and the measurement from the top of the receiver shank to the top of the ball platform, which is 8-1/2 inches, in the max rise position, see photo link.
