Optronics BUL22 Series LED Backup Light Diagram

Sonically Sealed, Waterproof Trailer Light

The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.

These lights are great. They light up much better than the stock incandescent bulbs that were in my ranch hand bumper. I can see great when backing my truck up now. They also fit better than the original bulb housings.

  • What Circuit Does Backup Light for Truck or Trailer # BUL22CB Tap Into For Reverse Light
To use the Backup Light for Truck or Trailer # BUL22CB as a reverse light will require you to tap into the reverse light circuit of your trailer or tow vehicle like you stated. Since you mentioned having that circuit at the trailer connector that would be the way to go. The reverse light circut is the one at the center pin.

  • What is the Best Way to Cut an Oval Hole in a Trailer Frame to Install a Backup Light
To cut an oval hole in a trailer for a light such as # BUL22CB what works well is a hole saw. You can drill a few holes, one after the other and then trim and shape the hole for the grommet and light to fit in using a cutting tool of your choice such as a powered rotary tool with a cutting wheel. For hole saw drill bits you would want to go with something that has a smaller diameter than the height needed for the light. This is because you can always make a hole larger but if you cut...

  • Current Draw and Light Output of Optronics Backup Light # BUL22CB
The 6-1/2 inch Oval LED Backup Light you referenced, part # BUL22CB draws LED light draws 0.161 amps at 12.8 volts. The output of the lamp is 160 Candela, according to my contact at Optronics. At a 1 foot distance, the candela output is equal to the output in lumens.

  • Output of the Optronics 6-1/2 inch Oval Trailer Lights
Optronics uses candelas to rate the brightness of their lights instead of lumens and the output of the Optronics 6-1/2 inch Oval LED Back Up light, # BUL52CB, is 175 candela. At a distance of 1 foot, the candela output is equal to the output in lumens. The next brightest 6-1/2 inch oval light would be the part # BUL22CB which has an output of 160 candela. The part # BUL10CB that you referenced has a candela rating of 125 which would make it the dimmest offering which I would not recommend...

  • Recommended Extremely Bright Trailer Reverse Light
I'll do my best to be just as helpful as Rebecca. I do have a few options for you depending on the exact size you'll need. I know you said you aren't worried about being compliant with the DOT but the best options we have both are. The Optronics GloLight LED Backup Light # BUL111CB is a 6-1/2 inch by 2-3/8 inch light that will fit into an opening of 6-7/8 by 2-1/2 inches. It's a clear lens with 22 diodes. All of the different sizes and shapes of GloLights we have get very good reviews...

  • Can I use a Halogen Spotlight as a Reverse Light to See Better Behind my Horse Trailer
These will certainly provide enough light. My concern would be that they provide too much light and would considered rear-facing headlights. There are DOT restrictions about how bright rear-ward facing lights can be so as drivers behind you are not blinded. The Custer Halogen Light you were looking at does not comply with this regulation. I would suggest instead, using brighter reverse lights. We have several backup LED lights that will be brighter than standard incandescent lights, but...

  • What Is The Amperage Draw On The Optronics 55-Watt Halogen Utility Light # QH16CTS
The amp draw is 4.5 amps per light on the Optronics 55-Watt Halogen, Multi-Directional, Area Utility Light # QH16CTS. If used on your 2004 Chevy Silverado you will need to use the Draw-Tite Wiring Kit # 118151. This kit will allow you to run a separate 12 gauge wire with a 10 amp in-line fuse to the positive side of the vehicles battery. This will keep the lights from drawing power on your factory wiring harness which could cause problems. You will also want to be careful when installing...

  • Installation of Extra Reverse Lights on 2006 Ford F-250
The amp draw is 4.5 amps per light or 9 amps for 2 lights on the Optronics 55-Watt Halogen, Multi-Directional, Area Utility Light # QH16CTS. With that much amperage draw I would not recommend to connect them to your factory wiring harness. It could cause overloading problems and damage your vehicles wiring harness. If you want to install the 55-watt lights on your 2006 Ford F-250 you will need to use the Draw-Tite Wiring Kit # 118151. This kit will allow you to run a separate 12 gauge...

  • is there a Certain Amount of Time LED Trailer Light BUL52CB Can be On
As you probably already know, LED lights draw much less power than regular bulbs. They also do not get as hot so you can have them on longer without worrying about them burning out. There is no official amount of time the lights can be on. As far as which would work better as an interior dome type of light, I would go with # BUL52CB because it has more diodes which would produce more light than # BUL22CB. With either light you will also need a pigtail # A45CB and a grommet, # a70gb.

  • Comparing Brightness Ratings of Optronics LED Tail Lights
The Optronics LED Backup Light # BUL22CB is brighter than backup light # BUL10CB although I would not describe it as significant, though that can be subjective. Optronics measures the brightness of their lights using candelas and the # BUL10CB has a candela rating of 125, while the # BUL22CB has a candela rating of 160. There is also the backup light # BUL52CB which has a candela rating of 175. The reason I would not classify the brightness as significantly higher is because these lights...

  • Is the LED Oval Trailer Utility Light Brighter than the Incandescent Oval Trailer Back Up Light
I went out to the warehouse and checked all of our clear oval lights. The Sealed, 6-1/2 inch LED Clear Oval Trailer Utility Light, 10 Diode, item # BUL72CB, whiter light than the light emitted by the incandescent Oval Trailer Back Up Light, item # BU70CB, but the light does not illuminate as large an area as well. The advantages of the LED light is that it does not draw near as much amperage as the incandescent light, it lasts much longer and it does not produce the heat produced by incandescent...

  • Wiring Reverse Lights and Winch on a trailer
If you do not have one already, you will need to install a 7-Way connector on your trailer. I recommend using the Hopkins 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector # H20046. The white wire from the harness is for ground, the red is left turn and brake, the brown is right turn and brake, the green is for taillights, blue is for brakes, the black is the 12 volt power wire and yellow is accessory (or in your case reverse lights). I have attached a link that will take you to our selection of LED...

  • Looking for 6-1/2 Inch Oval LED Trailer Light to Use for Back Up Light
We do indeed have a 6-1/2 inch oval LED lamp that is DOT certified for use as a backup light. The part # is BUL22CB. A utility light like the one you referenced, part # BUL78CB is not DOT compliant because the clear lens allows the light to be bright enough to be blinding. A wiring pigtail, part # A45CB and grommet, part # A70GB will also be needed.

  • Backup Light Recommendations for a Enclosed Utility Trailer
I spoke with my contact at Optronics and he informed me that this Optronics Trailer Light, part # BUL78C3MB, is certified to be used as a utility light for a trailer but not as a reverse light. I have attached a video demonstrating the brightness of the Optronics LED Backup Light, # BUL22CB, for you to check out. If you are looking for the maximum lighting possible I would recommend the 6-1/2 inch Oval, LED Backup Light, Grommet Mount, part # BUL22CB.
