Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Today we're going to review part number AM3S440, this is the Kenda Loads Bar Tire size ST20575D14, this is a bias trailer tire, it's mounted on the 14 inch deck star white spoke wheel. The screw has a right powder coat finish over the front of the wheel and over the back of the wheel; protects it from corrosion. Few measurements we're going to do on this wheel. So the inside diameter, we'll measure inside to inside to be 14 inches. The width of this wheel is five and a half inches wide, it's wheel does have a bolt pattern of five--on four and a half and on the wheel, it has an odd number of lug holes like in this case five, there is a couple of ways you can go about measuring it. First way is if you do a circle through the--all five of the lug holes and then measure the diameter of that circle.

So in that case the measure from the center of this bolt hole to the edge to that circle we drew, going to be four and a half inches. It's going to be five one four and a half. The other way is, you can pick lug knot or lug hole and measure from the center of that lug hole to the center of the whole adjacent to it. So in this case if we measure center of the center, a two and five eighths inches--and what you want to do is go to the product page for this part number and at the bottom of the pages is a chart and it'll say one of the measurement from this center to this center hole is two and five eights, would be five on four and a half inches. This wheel does have a weight capacity of 1870 pounds with 50psi.

Does use a rear bolt size of a half inch by twenty. Another critical measurement is the large center hole in the center of the wheel; this is the pirate hole. This will go with the carbon of your trailer. So the measure of the diameter of that be 3.91 inches, now we move on to the tire. Tire is a load star, size ST for special trailer, 20575D14.

The build doesn't make the pistons a biased constructive tire. This is a load range C tire. Has a six ply rating, maximum load carrying capacity on the tire is 1760 pounds at 50psi. Another quick measurement, we'll then do the overall diameter, it's going to be 26 inches. And we mentioned this is a bias constructed tire, when we say bias constructed, means the cords or the bolts on the inside of the tire run the length of the tire as opposed to a radio where they'll run from bead seat to bead seat are the radius of the tire.

A bias tire with a side will run a little bit firmer when compared to a radial tire. This tire and wheel combo will come with a limited two-year warranty. And that should do it for part number AM3S440.
