Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Kenda Tires and Wheels AM31985 Review

Today we're going to review part number AM31985. This is the Kenda Karrier ST175/80R13 Tire, mounted on a 13-inch Dexstar White Spoke Wheel. Few dimensions we'll do on this wheel first is the diameter of the wheel, if we measure inside to inside would be 13 inches, width of this wheel is 4-1/2 inches wide. The bolt pattern on this wheel is a 5-lug, 4-1/2-inch bolt pattern. And on a bolt pattern of odd lugs, like in this case, 5 lugs, there'd be two ways you could measure the bolt pattern. First way would be as if we drew a circle through the center of each lug hole and then measure the diameter of that circle.

If we measured from the center of this bolt hole to the edge of that circle it would be 4-1/2 inches. So that will tell you that this is a 5 on 4-1/2-inch wheel. The other way is if you measure from one bolt hole center to a bolt hole center of the lug hole next to it, in this case would be 2-5/8 inches, and if you go to the product page it will show you that when that measurement is 2-5/8, the bolt pattern would be a 5 on 4-1/2-inch bolt pattern. This wheel has a capacity of 1660lbs at 65 psi. This wheel uses a wheel bolt size of 1/2-inch by 20.

Another critical measurement is the pilot hole diameter which is the large hole in the center of the wheel, this will go over the hub on your trailer. If we measure the diameter of that, that would be 3.19 inches. This wheel is a white powder-coated finish, front and back. Now this tire is a Loadstar Karrier, and is a size ST, for Special Trailer, 175/80R13. This tire will have an outer diameter of 24 inches.

The tire has a capacity as a load range D which is an eight-ply rated tire, that means it has a maximum load-carrying capacity of 1610lbs at 65 psi. This tire is also a radial tire, and what that will mean is the construction of the tire, the belts, will run from one bead seat across the other, which would give it a radial construction. And what that does is it will give the tire more flex for better ground contact. The tire does run cooler, which will improve tire wear, and it will also give better stability. This tire-wheel combo does have a limited two-year warranty, and that should do it for review of part number AM31985..

Good product, fast service, tires came inflated and ready to mount on Yacht Club boat trailer. For the price of load range C tires mounted and balanced on the existing trailer rims This package provides load range D tires on new rims. I like the white rims. Brightens things up.77354

The tires came quickly and were just as represented. I like the fact that they are load-rated D instead of C. I just put them on my trailer and took a 1300 mile road trip. They performed well in all conditions. I am very satisfied.73539

I am one of those people that research things to death. I chose etrailer products and received the tires quickly and am very satified with buying from them. I purchased the 'D' range tires for a little more load capacity and I hope the radials will wear well and track truer than the bias tires. We shall see......63857

I bought these for my 2001 Starcraft pop up, that fully loaded was pushing the max load limit of the load range C tires, and I didn't have clearance for larger wheels and tires. These load range D tires are just what I needed since they have a 250 lb higher limit on each tire. I ordered these on a Saturday afternoon and they were delivered three days later.57503

My experience with etrailer was totally positive. The tires arrived in 4 days and appear to be exactly as described on the website. I will recommend etrailer to my friends and if I need more trailer tires I will order them from etrailer. The tires replaced 12 year old tires on my camper and hopefully they will perform as well as the originals. 55160

I cannot give this product an excellent review since I only installed them yesterday. I will, however, give eTrailer the highest marks. The services, pricing, follow-up, and attention to details to be unsurpassed. I purchased a set of these wheels & tires for my 2001 Coleman Niagara Elite tent trailer. It has a VWR of ~3,000# and a GVWR of 3,200#. First off, most 13" tires (whether bias of radial) are only available in a C-class weight rating maxing out a 1,260# per tire. I required the D-class which is rated at 1,610#. ETrailer had the ideal tire at a great price and the free shipping sealed the deal. Not only did I receive the included free shipping, eTrailer contacted me and let me know that they had upgraded my order to 3-5 business shipping at no additional charge. Next spring I am planning on an over/under axle flip on my trailer and plan on moving up to 14" (maybe 15") tires/wheels. I will look no further than eTrailer when I get those tires. Eric52370

Delivery was on day early, thank you! Will put the tires on today and go camping. So far my experience with etrailer has been nothing but exceptional. I am sure the tires will be just as good! I have a Jayco 154BH, tires that came stock were only a C rating and barely held the wait (I dont overload). I had 5 trips and 3 blow outs. I finally took it to a dealer and they suggested to go with the different brand. The problem that is there are no D rating tires in 175/80R that I have found except with etrailer. Hopefully a D rating will solve my problem and I can finally enjoy my new trailer. Fingers crossed! 49408

I replaced my 6 year old bias trailer tires with the Kenda radial tires and had them balanced by local tire dealer for $5 each. Actually each tire needed very little weight which indicated that they are mounted on the wheels as advertised. The quality of tires and service is excellent from etrailer. 45959

Had a blow out not too long ago on a trailer while towing our pontoon boat. Decided to replace both tires and after a lot of research I decided to go with the Karrier load star tires and rim combo... I placed my order during the weekend... My order was shipped out first thing that monday morning and was at my home thursday... btw, shipping was free....Just mounted the rims and tires on the trailer today so I can't say how good or bad the tires are, but this particular tire got better than avg. reviews, which is why I ordered it. My experience with Etrailer has been wonderful... Before placing my order I emailed customer service with a few questions.. got a quick response the next day.. When I called to place my order, the young man that took the order was very friendly, very courteous and most importantly very helpful... After the product was delivered I got another email from etrailer asking if everything was ok with the order. Like I said, customer service at etrailer has been exemplary. IF and when I have a need for trailer parts or products, I'll be going back to Etrailer to place my order... couldn't be happier with the way they handled my order... Roland43520

This is the second time I have used etrailer and again I am pleased with their fast and efficient service. I needed new tires for a tent camper and was changing tire sizes so I needed new wheels as well as tires. Etrailer allowed me to do all my shopping at one location and shipped the tires directly to me free of charge. This service allowed me to get my tires without running around to several locations or trying to find someone nearby that would mount my tires on old wheels. Great experience.39857

  • Capacity of 5.3 x 12 Tires and Wheels Compared to 175/80R13 Tires and Wheels on a Boat Trailer
  • According to our resident tire expert, trailer tires often fail because they are not used and maintained as much as automotive tires and/or they are not filled to the recommended psi which would cause a blowout. So it could be that type of issue, rather than the tires being too small. In this case, a load range D tire, 5.3 x 12, like # AM10068, is rated at 1,250 pounds at 105 psi. So total weight capacity of two would be 2,500 pounds. That is very close to the dry weight of the trailer, boat, an

  • Can 4.80-12 Trailer Tires and Wheels be Replaced by 175/80-13 Tires and Wheels
  • The radial tires at size 175/80-13, are going to be 7 inches wide; too wide to be able to fit without incident on your trailer, so you will need to go with a bias ply tire. The wheels that we carry, unless otherwise noted, have a zero offset. This means that the extra width will be split evenly on each side of the tire. However, there will be very little room if you just have 1-3/4 inches of clearance. Make sure you double and triple check the measurements before ordering. As you are aware, t

  • I have been crunching the numbers and according to my math, you have a tire that is 6.1 inches wide, 22.77 inches tall on a 13 inch rim. We do have a size that is close to that. It would be the 145/80-12 like part # AM10130 which is 5.7 inches wide, 21.14 inches tall, but requires a 12 inch rim. It has a capacity of 1,220 pounds at 65 psi. If the 145/80-12 sounds like it will work for you, you will just need to select a rim with the correct bolt pattern. Our 12 inch rims come in 4 on 4 or 5 o

  • Choosing Between Radial and Bias-Ply Tires for Coleman Bayside Pop-Up Camper
  • When the option is available, I always recommend going with a radial tire versus a bias-ply. The ride quality will be noticeably smoother and more stable. We offer a ST185/80/D13 tire in bias-ply only, that part # is AM1ST79. We offer the ST175/80/D13 in either radial, part # AM10210 or bias-ply, part # AM1ST77. Although either size tire would work well with your trailer, I would recommend going with the same size as your spare.

  • Should I Upgrade From a 12 inch Tire to a 13 inch Tire on a Rockwood Freedom 2290 Trailer
  • I would recommend staying with the 12 inch 5.30-12 tire, like the Kenda K353 Trailer Tire, item # AM10068, for a couple of reasons. First, going with the larger, higher capacity tire will provide a stiffer ride for your trailer suspension and trailer. This will cause wear on the suspension parts. Next, going with a higher capacity larger wheel and tire than recommended by the manufacturer or axle capacity makes the trailer suspension the weakest link in the system. If a failure occurs due to

  • Increasing Wheel and Tire Size to Increase Trailer Ground Clearance
  • By going with the 5.3x12 tire, you will gain 1/4 inch in width and 3.8 inches in diameter. Other than having to move or modify your existing fenders, going with the larger tire size will work just fine for you.

  • Things to Consider When Choosing Replacement Trailer Tires
  • If the trailer is made for 185/80-13 tires, then I would stick to that size. But if you need to go to a different size, there are some things to consider. Going to a smaller size like the 175/80-13 will not cause problems in terms of the tire interfering with the trailer or fenders, but you will have a lower capacity. For capacity, you will want to go by the axle capacity. This information can usually be found on a plate or sticker on the trailer frame or tongue. If you decide that you nee

  • How to Determine if a Trailer Wheel is Hub-Centric or Lug-Centric
  • First, I would say if there is any question on the road worthiness of the trailer, take the steps to correct it. Better safe than sorry. Some trailers have wheels that are hub-centric, the wheel is centered on the hub using the center pilot holes. Other trailers have wheels that are lug-centric, the wheel is centered on when you tighten down the lug nuts. To determine which one you have on your trailer, take a look at how the wheel attaches to the hub. If it uses wheel bolts, like # 7-23,

  • When Should Trailer Tires be Changed on a 2004 Rockwood Roo Travel Trailer
  • How often you need to change trailer tires depends on several factors. A trailer that has good tread depth and is not towed often with tires that are in good shape you will only need to change out the tires once the tread depth gets to 2/32 of an inch. If the trailer sits for long periods of time and is exposed to the elements, the tires can experience dry rot. These tires should be changed before towing, even if they have a good tread depth. Also, to help prevent blowouts always inflate a

  • What is the Minimum Clearance Between Tires on a Dual Axle Gooseneck Trailer
  • Normally, at the very least, there should be 2 inches between the tires on a dual axle trailer. This will allow the suspension components room to work properly. Also, if the axles are too far apart, the tires are more likely to drag some when turning.

  • What Needs to Be Considered to go to a Larger Trailer Tire Size
  • There are two main things to consider if you would like to use a larger size wheel and tire on your trailer. The first thing is the bolt pattern of your current hub. You will need to determine the bolt pattern of your hub so you can determine which bolt pattern rim you should purchase. The next thing you will need to consider is clearance. If there are wheel fenders you will need to consider vertical clearance. You will also need to consider the clearance from the wheel to the inside of the f

  • Can a Camper With ST175/80x13 Load Range C Tires Be Upgraded to Load Range D Tires
  • Going from a ST175/80x13 load range C tire to a load range D tire in the Kenda Tires and Wheel, part # AM31985, is no problem. As you mentioned, changing to the higher load range will not increase the amount of weight that your camper can carry. If you are using radial tires there will be a bulge look to the sidewall of the tire because of the way a radial tire is constructed. Since the belts or cords inside the tire run from bead seat to bead seat across the radius of the tire it gives the r

  • Replacing Tires and Wheels on a Texture Spray Rig to Reduce Bounce When Towing
  • I am certain that the tires currently on your trailer are causing your problems. Those tires have two different widths and diameters and should not be used together. I would recommend replacing both tires with two of the same tires because both of your current tires will have uneven wear. There are a few things to look at before choosing the correct tire and wheel combination for your trailer. The main factors to consider is the axle weight capacity and the bolt hole pattern of your current

  • Changing from a ST205/75D15 Tire and Wheel to a ST205/75D14 Tire and Wheel on a Trailer
  • The main factors that you will want to take into consideration when moving from a st205/75d15 tire and wheel to a st205/75d14 tire and wheel is the weight capacity of the smaller tire and wheel and the bolt pattern. The weight capacity of a trailer tire is divided into load ranges, B, C, D, E, or F, however, tires with the same load range will have different weight capacities for different size wheels. For example, a load range C tire for a st205/75d15 tire and wheel will have a weight capac

  • Recommended Rims for ST175/80R13 Tires for Occasional Saltwater Use
  • Since you do not constantly use your trailer in a saltwater environment, using a painted wheel and tire combo like the # AM31985 that you mentioned would work just fine for you. You will want to spend a few minutes spraying your wheels down after leaving the water to remove any saltwater residue, but most folks do that anyway. The Karrier ST175/80R13 is a load range D tire with a 1,660 lb weight capacity at 65psi. The # AM31998 uses the same tire on an aluminum wheel that is very attractiv
