This system boosts engine performance. The single-piece, steel heat shield blocks out hot air and pulls in more cold air than sealed systems. The exposed, dry, washable filter is great on paved and semi-dusty roads. It includes a plastic intake tube.

aFe manufactures its air intake systems to optimize airflow and increase overall engine performance. The open design of Stage 2 systems allows more air into the engine compartment, thereby boosting horsepower and torque. An increase in airflow also leads to a deep, throaty sound. Stainless steel installation hardware is included.

A. Made from 16-gauge, powder coated steel, the heat shield is durable and easy to install. Its single-piece construction eliminates the need for cutting or drilling; it simply replaces the entire stock air box.
B. The three-angle adapter ring, located on the inside of the heat shield, bridges the connection between the air filter and the intake tube. Its conical shape helps to increase airflow velocity before air enters the intake tube.
C. The heat-insulating, molded plastic intake tube replaces the stock intake tube by screwing into the back of the heat shield, and its improved design decreases back pressure. OEM intake tubes contain pleats and breaks, which increase turbulence. Because aFe intake tubes are seamless and made from one piece, air flows through without generating any turbulence, thereby boosting horsepower and torque. All aFe intake tubes have raised stops that help to form strong connections and prevent slippage.
D. This intake system contains an aFe Pro Dry S air filter for a great balance of protection, performance and convenience. Designed for everyday gas and diesel vehicles, it performs well in paved-road and semi-dusty driving conditions. Composed of 100-percent polyurethane, it withstands high engine temperatures. Two layers of randomly porous, synthetic fabric lie between two layers of progressively finer, medical-grade cotton gauze to block 99.2 percent of dirt and grime from clogging your engine. All four layers are dry and oil free, making it easy to service the filter. These materials yield a high-performance airflow and extended service interval. All aFe air filters are washable and reusable; cleaning is recommended once every 25,000 to 30,000 miles.

Today on this 2005 GMC Sierra 1550 series, were going to be installing the AFE intake kit part number afe51-10092. The kit includes the replacement air filter, the new intake tube, an intake adaptor and 2 different couplers, 4 different sets of hose clamps, the trim seal and then the intake housing. Once weve ensured all thats there, we can go ahead and start with our installation. The first thing we want to do before we start moving the stock intake system is to go ahead and remove the negative terminal from the battery. Well reinstall this once the new intake is in, that will allow the system to reset itself around the new intake system. Ok moving onto the factory air intake, were going to first disconnect the mass air censor.
Theres actually a clip on here that we need to remove first. And then well go ahead and press the black button here at the top and separate the 2. Next go ahead and remove the screws for the intake cover. Ok next were going to go ahead and loosen up the 2 hose clamps. One here going into the filter box. And then one going into the intake manifold.
Ok with the clamps removed, we can go ahead and start removing the stock intake and it will separate the other one from the intake top. Theres also a push whippet thats holding this into position onto this hose, we do need to remove those 2 as well and then we need to just remove our stock sections in 2 pieces here, go ahead and take the stock air box and go ahead and remove that next. Next well go ahead and take it and remove the 10 millimeter bolts that are securing the air box base to the Inaudible 00:02:18 well save these bolts and reuse them when we install our new system. Well next move onto a little bit of pre installation for our new intake system. Were going to first take the air filter adaptor and mount it onto our new housing body and we want the larger side to go towards the inside of the box and the smaller side will protrude through this larger hole and then were just going to take the provided button head screws along with the flat washer and go ahead and install it.
Next were going to move back to the stock intake lid and we need to remove the MAF censor, which is this piece here, this is still clamped on, and then were just going to reinstall it onto our new housing. We just want to make sure we do remove the coupler thats on our existing censor. Were going to next take the reducer adaptor that comes with the kit, take the number 72 clamp, put it over the larger side, slide that on. Go ahead and take number 64 clamp, set it over, slide our censor back on and then to the coupling, ok and then we just want to go ahead and tighten down our hose clamps. Next lets go ahead and take the rubber trim seal and install it onto the outer edge of the housing.
And then with that trim well just go ahead and move on to installing the housing. Well just set our new housing in over the existing holes and well be using the same hardware that we took out. Now its time to go ahead and put the intake tube into place. For the throttle body, were going to be using the straight couple and number 64 clamps and on the other end, well be using this hump coupler with the number 60 clamps. Were going to install our tube into the housing first because it has a little more give to it and then come back over to the throttle body and insert it and if were having trouble getting it in with the hose clamp on, go ahead and take that off. Get your tubing in and then come back and put your clamp on. Now that weve got the tube on and all our clamps in place and where you want it, we can go ahead and tighten all our clamps down. And then finally the last thing we have to go ahead and do is put our new air filter in. Thats just going to slide over the coupling and well use the last clamp and go ahead and tighten it down. With the filter in place, we just want to make sure we plug our censor back in and go back over and reconnect the negative terminal of our battery and our installation is complete of the AFE air intake kit, part number afe51-10092.
