Optronics 7-Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector Installation

Video Transcript for Optronics 7-Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector Installation

Today on our trailer, we're going to be installing the 7-Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector, part number A7WCB. Now to begin our installation, we'll go ahead and remove the set screw here on our 7-way connector to remove the inside. We'll then go ahead and remove the white sleeve that will be used to hold the connector in place on our 7-way wire. We'll now take our 7-way wire connector cover, slide it over our black 7-way round sheathing. We'll now go ahead and cut the sheathing off of our 7-way wire to expose the seven wires within it. We'll then strip away the insulation from each of the seven wires and connect them color for color as indicated on the 7-way plug.

Now here before we connect the last two wires on the round, we'll need to connect the yellow wire into our center post. We'll do this before we do the last two wires, just to give us a little more space to get the yellow wire in place. Now with all our wires secured into the connector, we can bring the cover back over and screw down the set screw. We'll then move to the white clamp here on the connector, and reinstall it. With that tight, our connector's on, and we're ready to hook up to our tow vehicle.

And that completes our installation of the 7-Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector, part number A7WCB.

I should have bought a better one. This will work though. The wiring colors molded into the back of the connector do NOT match the standard 7 pin wiring listed on etrailer.com's site, nor did it match my truck. I used etrailer's wiring guide and all is well.57351

  • Comparison of the 7-Way Round RV Style Trailer Side Connectors # A7WCB and # PK12706
  • I went out to the warehouse and got one of each of the 7-Way trailer side connectors to compare to each other. There are some major differences between the two connectors. The # A7WCB, 7-Way trailer side connector has a wire clamping mechanism that just has a clamp that wedges the wire into the connector to keep the wires from being pulled out, there is nothing at the back of the connector to prevent moisture from entering the connector. Another difference is that this connector has plastic p

  • Wiring Lighting Functions Only on Trailer Side Connector # A7WCB
  • You cannot always go by color because not everyone wires trailers/vehicles the same. So what you can do is wire the connector, # A7WCB by function. On a 4-Way, trailer side, the covered pin will be the ground wire. Next to that will be the running light wire, followed by left turn/brake, and finally right turn and brake will be at the end. On the back of the 7-way, trailer side connector, where the wires attach, make the following connections: Ground = 7 oclock position Running lights

  • Trailer Wiring Diagram for a 7-Way Trailer Side Connector
  • The problem that you are going to run into no matter what 7-Way you want to put on your trailer is that the color of the wires used is not standardized. Trailer manufacturers or people who rewire their trailers at any point can use any color they have laying around. You have to go by function, and then follow our wiring FAQ diagrams which I have linked for you. The colors that we mention are the most used but are by no means definitive. If your old 7-Way is still attached you can just match

  • Connecting 5 Wires From a Trailer to a 7-Way Trailer Connector
  • The best solution for your situation would be to use a circuit tester, like part # 3808, to wire your trailer wires to a seven way trailer connector, like part # A7WCB. Wiring by function is the best way to make sure you have the trailer connector wired correctly. Be sure you know what the black wire function is on the trailer. It will probably be for a twelve volt battery or for reverse lights, but it could be used for something else. The location for the black wire in the connector is depend

  • Wiring Options for an Electric Winch Powered by an Additional Battery
  • The easiest way to wire the battery for your winch will be to use the 7 way connector on your vehicle if you have one on your 2006 GMC Truck. You can get a 7 way trailer connector like part # A7WCB and use the Jacketed 2 Wire, part # 10-2-1, to connect a wire for the power and a wire for the ground in the connector. You will then run the ground wire, or white wire, to the negative terminal on the secondary battery and run the power lead, black wire, to the positive terminal on the battery. This
