This stylish rack from Kuat carries up to three bikes and fits 1-1/4" trailer hitch receivers. Constructed with rigid 6061 heat-treated aluminum tubing, it is one of the lightest bike racks in its class, weighing less than 15 pounds. Innovative anti-sway cradles fit up to 2" diameter frames, and are held in position with retaining pins. The short distance between the rack arms is designed to carry most alternative, women's and children's frames without the need for an adapter bar. Its convenient hand tightening cam system eliminates the need for tools by tightening the bike rack inside the hitch receiver using a large turning knob. The cam system also reduces rattling at two points on the back of the upright bar. The folding design of this bike rack allows for both easy storage and full access to your rear cargo area. In addition to a locking hitch pin, the bike rack has a retractable lock with a magnetic catch at the end of one of the arms for added security. This bike rack is made with a powder-coated Black Chrome finish and does not require any assembly.
Where other racks require a bolt and wrench to tighten the rack inside the hitch, the Kuat Alpha uses only a convenient hand knob.
Aside from tilting away from the vehicle, the arms fold down, and the hitch bar rotates 270 degrees, parallel to the upright bar. This compact folding design makes the rack very easy to store.
The bike lock system has a 20" retractable cable that pulls out from the end of the right arm. A magnetic pull prevents the cable from falling from the arm when the rack is in its fold-down position. When in use, the cable wraps around the top tube of the last bike on the rack, and the cable tip inserts into the side slot of the lock. A button on the lock cylinder pushes down to lock the cable tip in the slot. The rack also includes a locking hitch pin. Two keys come with the hitch pin, and two keys come with the retractable bike lock system.

Today we are going to show you the Alpha bicycle rack from Kuat. As shown here we have it in an 1-1/4 inch version in the chrome black. It is constructed completely out of aluminum, it is very light weight and you can practically toss this anywhere you want. Also available is in the white color as shown here in the 2 inch version bicycle rack.
Now we have a couple of racks already installed on some vehicles so lets take a short ride around back and show you how they work. Some points about this bicycle rack is first off when you install it on the hitch of your vehicle you do not have to worry about having any special tools for it, you simply slide it in, install the lock that came with the bike rack, and then tighten down the anti rattle device. Boom you are done. Then you are ready to put the bikes on the rack itself.
What is nice about the rack itself are the arms are very narrow so they can hold a variety of different bikes. On the cradles you have anti sway on both of them so it does not matter how you start stacking the bikes on the rack. Another nice feature about this bicycle rack is if you want to get in the back to the trunk of your car or SUV all you have to do is undo the little tension knob here, pull out the pin right here, undo the clip and you actually tilt the assembly out of the way, store the pin back so that you can get in the back of your vehicle. And also when you are ready to store the Kuat bicycle rack all you have to do is undo the tension knob on the back, pull this pin, pull it out, fold it down, and reinstall the pin and it is ready for storage.
Lets go ahead and put this bicycle on the rack. First off undo your cradles, just go ahead and lift the bike onto the cradles. And you can rotate the cradles as needed to fit the bike. And we will just go ahead and run these straps around it. For security the Kuat Alpha bicycle rack actuality has a built in lock and cable so you can wrap it around the bike itself. Put it into the lock and push the button, and it is secured to the rack. And with that it finishes our review of part number A101-white as shown here. And then also part number A102-black-114 for 1-1/4inch models.

Fabulous workmanship and paint. Marvelously lightweight. Quality throughout. Highly recommend. Compared to the Thule Helium, you sacrifice the convenience of push button hinges for folding convenience, but get the benefit of much lighter weight and less movement at the hinges. Only inconvenience is a lock cable that is only long enough to lock the outermost bike. So if you want to carry one or two bikes on the mount(s) that are closest to the upright support, you need to use an additional cable lock. Also the lock cable itself seems a bit thin, although it seems to be constructed of tough material.21492

Very good product and happy with the performance. The anti-rattle mechanism included in the device works well. Although, icing on the cake would have been if they tried to update the product by installing bike cable locks on all three spaces rather than just the first one in the front. I would definitely recommended this product as an investment to a bike rack because of the price. 9549
