Tekonsha Prodigy Electric Trailer Brake Controller with Toyota and Lexus Adapter
Tekonsha introduces Prodigy, one of the most advanced and intelligent approaches to trailer brake controls. Prodigy, requiring no manual leveling, is a technological breakthrough among inertia-activated brake controls. Equipped with a self-adjusting sensing device similar to the one used in guided-missile technology to allow for easy, flexible installation - from nearly horizontal to nearly vertical - the Tekonsha Prodigy constantly adjusts itself to the position of the tow vehicle.
- Features:
- Applies power to the trailer brakes in proportion to vehicle's deceleration.
- No level adjustment necessary - it adjusts itself to varying terrain as you drive.
- Works proportionally in reverse - great for backing into tough spots.
- Digital display depicts voltage delivery to trailer during braking.
- Continual diagnostics check for proper connection, shorted magnet condition and much more.
- "Boost" feature gives users the ability to apply more initial trailer braking power when towing heavier trailers.
- Power-saving mode reduces drain on battery when vehicle is not in use.
- Unique pocket mount allows for flexible mounting options.
- Quick and easy disconnect feature allows user to remove and store the control when not in use.
- Vehicle specific wiring adapter is included to make installation simple
- Rotary manual brake adjustment lever
- Limited lifetime warranty
- Specs:
- Dimensions: 3-1/8" Wide x 5-1/8" Long x 1-3/16" High
- Made for up to 4-axle trailer brake systems (2 to 8 Brakes)
- Can be mounted between 0 degrees (level) and 70 degrees
- Boost levels increase power up 0%, 13% and 25%
- Power saving sleep mode draws 3.6 milliamp
- Version 2.6
- Installation:
The vehicle specific adapter has one end that plugs into the back of the brake controller while the other end plugs into the port located under the dash.
Note: If your vehicle has a factory installed hitch and 7-way connector, then all of the wires for the brake controller have already been run. If not, additional parts will be required to complete the installation of the brake controller.

- How to Install a Prodigy Brake Controller on a 2010 Toyota Tacoma with Factory Tow Package
- Since your 2010 Toyota Tacoma has a factory tow package, installation of the Tekonsha Prodigy Proportional Brake Controller, # 90185-3040P will be very simple. Your Tacoma has a plug, tucked up under the dash, most likely left of the brake pedal. There are some panels that you will have to remove to gain access to the wiring. Find the plug, it will be the one, probably with a white connector, that is not hooked up to anything. Attach this to the corresponding end of the brake controller harness.

- Locating Brake Controller Port Under Dash of 2007 Toyota Tundra w/ Factory 7-way
- I contacted our representative at Hopkins and he informed me that the plug should be located under the dash to the left of the brake pedal or behind the kick panel. The plug will more than likely be tucked up behind wires behind the kick panel (see video link at :35 second mark).
If the 7-way on your 2007 Toyota Tundra is factory, then you will be able to install your brake controller using the wiring adapter, Tekonsha Wire Replacement, part # 3040-P.

- Location of Trailer Brake Controller Port on a 2006 Toyota Tacoma with Factory Tow Package
- I have included a link to the installation details for wiring harness # 3040-P that shows the location of the brake controller port on a 2010 Toyota Tacoma. We have not had a 2006 model that had a tow package to determine the plugs exact location for that model year. If any panel would need to be removed, it would be the lower driver side dash panel or the panel to the left of the emergency brake.
When you do find the harness, make sure that you also attach the separate white ground wire to a

- Locating Brake Controller Port on Toyota and Lexus Vehicles
- Toyota and Lexus typically places the connector for the brake controller in the location you describe. The connector is square and white in color. The easiest way to determine if you have the correct connector is to compare the connector you have located to the connector on the wiring adapter, part # 3040-P.
You can also use a circuit tester, like part # 3808 to test the pins on the connector you have located. One pin should show a constant 12-volts, and another should only show voltage when
