Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 90153 on a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The attaching points for the hitch are going to be on both sides of the frame. They are going to be these rear 2 most weld nuts. On a lot of the models that have seen at least one winter you will see lots of road grime and corrosion built up into these weld nuts. So definitely it would do you some good to go ahead and lubricate these with some WD40 and clean them out as best you can with the wire brush or basically anything you can get in there to clean it out. We are going to need to remove the exhaust off the exhaust hanger. Okay, with the weld nuts throughly cleaned out, we are going to want to go ahead and put the hitch up into position.
We can start by mounting the hardware on the driver side here because on the passenger side we can use the exhaust to hold the hitch up. With the bolts loosely installed we just want to go ahead and tighten them down. With these bolts tightened down the only step left is to torque them down. These bolts get torqued down to about 76 foot pounds. Now that we have the bolts torqued down, you want to make sure you put your exhaust back onto the hanger. That will conclude the installation of hitch part number 90153 on a 2005 Honda Odyssey.

This item is well-made and we recieved it without any issues or problems. We are a family of 4 and needed this for a bike-rack we are getting. With our minivan not have a hitch already this was step one of our solution. We did not mount it ourselves, but had a automotive place do it for us for a nominal fee.20218

I backed the van up on ramps, cleaned the holes with WD40 and a round brush, slipped the hitch up over the exhaust (no need to remove from the hangers) and installed the bolts and torqued to spec. I think it took me about 10 minutes to do the hitch install. No real need to remove the tailpipe from the hangers, just need to move it to the side to get at the bolts with the ratchet and torque wrench. Very nicely made hitch! I wish I would have known the hitch comes with a rubber plug to keep the crap out, as I ordered one with it. I have 2 of them now.17918

With only 4 bolts, it should be easy to install this hitch, and it is. Look at the video and you will have no difficulty. I drove the back wheels of my Ody up on some 4" high wooden ramps to get sufficient clearance to remove the rubber exhaust hangers. Spraying the rubber hangers with silicon lubricant makes removing them much easier. Since I was working by myself, I used gallon paint cans and some short pieces of 2x4 to get the two ends of the hitch held up just below the frame, so I could start the bolts on each side without having to hold up the hitch while doing it. Note that the instructions which come with the hitch call for an 18mm wrench/socket for tightening the bolts, when the actual wrench/socket required is a 19mm. The hitch looks sturdy and well made, and fits closely under the rear of the Ody. Finally, the personnel at etrailer were very quick to ship the hitch, and I got keeping me informed of the status. I am a very pleased customer, and hightly recommend etrailer.com.8014
