Today on this 2001 Ford Windstar, we will be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 75055. This installation will also apply to Hidden Hitch part number 87507. Okay we are underneath the vehicle and we are looking at the driver side frame rail. We are going to go ahead and point out the mounting location for our trailer hitch here. As you can see here at the end of the frame rail we have got two existing holes. We are actually going to be using the longer oblong hole as our rear most attaching point on each side of the vehicle. What we are going to be using is the carriage bolt and block combination that we are actually going to feed through the frame and pull down through this hole.
To do that we are going to be using the access hole here forward on the side of the frame. And then we are also going to be drilling two holes in this area right here that will provide our two forward most attaching points. So we will go ahead and show you how to fish the bolts into position here at the rear of the frame first. What we want to do is go ahead and feed this through the hole that we are going to be using and out through our access hole. And then what we will do is take the block on to the bolt leader and it into the frame. And then we will take our carriage bolt and wrap the bolt leader around the threads of the carriage bolt and also feed that into the frame.
You want to try to keep the block and the bolt independent of each other while you are pulling it into this rear most mounting location. It could get a little tight and get caught up in the frame in this narrow area if they happen to merge together. And we will just pull that into place. Go ahead and do the same thing here for the passenger side. And now we will go ahead and attach the hitch to those carriage bolts. We will be using the lock washers and hex nuts to attach the bolts. Okay, we want to arrange it so that the cut out on the hitch goes perfectly with the oblong hole in the bottom of the frame. And then we go ahead and tighten these down. Now we are going to go ahead and use the hitch with the template to drill out our half inch hole.
I am going to start by using the 1/ 4 inch pilot bit and then go ahead and enlarge to the 1/ 2 inch medium. We are going to be doing that with both of the holes here at the forward side on both sides of the frame. Repeat that for the other side. We can go ahead and fish the carriage bolts and blocks through the frame and through those holes as well. Okay, and for this middle attaching point, we want to make sure we use this smaller block as opposed to the longer one. And again with these bolts we are going to be attaching them with the lock washer and nut. Okay, now that we have got all of the bolts in place we can go ahead and torque them down. You want to check your directions to verify the appropriate torque rating to each individual bolt. Okay, now that we have got all of the bolts torqued down, our installation is complete. This will conclude the installation of Draw-Tite hitch part number 75055 on a 2001 Ford Windstar.
