Today on this 2006 Acura MDX, we are going to install Draw-Tite hitch, part number 75599. This installation will also apply for the Hidden Hitch part number, 87454. We are underneath the vehicle, looking at the passenger side frame rail. I am going to go ahead and point out the mounting holes that we are going to be using to install the trailer hitch. As you can see here, we have three existing weld nuts here at the end of the frame, we will be using these three as our attaching points for our trailer hitch. :24
Into those weld nuts, we are going to be installing 12 millimeter bolts along with the conical tooth washers that are provided with our hitch installation kit. The weld nuts on this particular vehicle have a lot of corrosion built up on them, so we are going to need to clean them out before we get started. To do that we are going to use a spray lubricant, like a WD-40, and a wire brush to thoroughly clean those out. Moving over to the drivers side, we are going to be using the same three weld nuts, however you can see that on this side of the vehicle we have a tow hook that is installed. So, we will need to remove these three bolts first and remove the tow hook. :57
Since this side has bolts inside the weld nuts, they should be fairly clean still. However, if you are noticing corrosion, you may want to clean them out as well. Then we will also need to lower the exhaust off its hangers to make the hitch installation a little easier. We are going to need to go up and over the exhaust with the trailer hitch. Before we remove all the hangers we want to but a support strap across the exhaust tubes here at the forward side because, when we remove all the hangers the exhaust will want to sag down and could possibly become damaged. I am going to use a basic ratchet strap here, and hook it to the suspension components underneath the vehicle. To help remove the rubber hangers, I am going to use a spray lubricant again, like a WD-40, and just want to spray the studs down. Then you can take a pry bar and pry off the rubber hanger away from the stud. One last thing we need to do before we install our trailer hitch is to remove the fascia under covering her on this Acura MDX. 2004 and newer models will have this fascia underneath that needs to be removed. To remove the fascia covering we need to remove three push pins. One at the drivers side, one at the center, and one on the passenger side. As well as the four screws that are holding it in place. We will also need to remove the center holder as well, there is a bolt mounting it to the bottom of the bumper to that needs to be removed to accomplish this. 2:54
Now that we have the fascia cover removed we can put the hitch up in position. If you are having difficulty getting the hitch up and around the exhaust and the spare tire, you may need to lower the spare tire down. You may find that when you are putting the hitch up into position that you can not get it enough rear ward, that could be because of these fascia support brackets that are mounted on the driver and passenger sides. If that is the case, you can take them and bend them enough to get your bolts in, and then we can bend them back down into place once we get the hitch installed. Now that we have the bolts into place we can torque them down. You want to check with the directions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. With the bolts torqued down, we just want to go ahead and put our exhaust back u p on its hangers. You may be able to get two of the fascia fasteners back into place on the fascia support brackets by the push pins at the end to give it a little more security. Put the exhaust back in place as well as your spare tire if you lowered that and your installation will be complete. I am going to give you a couple of final dimensions that you may find useful in ing you hitch accessories. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to be 17 inches. From the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is approximately 5 inches. This will conclude the installation of Draw-Tite hitch part number 75599 on a 2006 Acura MDX.

I selected the hidden hitch over the other two suggested for my vehicle because Dropping the spare tire was not required for installation. Paper instruction were different then the online video and I used the online because it was easier and visually helpful. The only problem I had with the information supplied is that both failed to warn of the Pilot's right side nut plates are subject to failure with very little torque applied. The recommended wire brush does not do a adequate job on salt infested Northeast vehicles. They should suggest the brush along with using Tap to adequately clean/resurface the threads prior to installation. I found at least ten guys online who snapped at least one nut plate during installation and the fix is not easy. Be very, very careful on the right side.19931

Product arrived on time and instillation was a breeze thanks to the online video. Be sure to prep the exposed threads. My '06 Pilot came from the rust belt, so I used a 1/2in wire tube brush (found in the plumbing section of the hardware store) to knock off most of the rust, but just to make sure the threads were clean I then used a M12 x 1.25 tap to clean the threads properly. Instillation only took 20 minutes once I got all of the tools gathered.27498

Worked great. Perfect fit. I would recommend that you use the bolts removed from the driver side tow bar to "clean out" the threads on the passenger side. Easier than trying to start the threads on the new bolts. Once I did that, the new bolts went right in. Great price. Great product. 5795

easy to install I would have had this installed in less than 30 minutes, but i had 2 problems: You really need one person to help you hold it in place and another to put the bolts in. My torch wrench didn't work so I had to get a new one. Besides that, easy to install; the video really helped a lot. I'm very pleased with e-trailer.com2302

The whole process was fantastic. Received the hitch within two days of it being placed. Everything arrived in good condition. The installation of the hitch took me about 60 minutes on my own. After the first bolt, it was extremely easy. I encourage everyone however to tap the screws on the passenger side of the Pilot as recommended by others who have ordered. As others communicated, the exposure to the elements over time accumulated dirt and grime within each hole. After tapping each hole, the screws that came with the hitch went in like butter. I'm happy with not only the product but also the quality of the service. I would most definitely utilize etrailer for a future order.56685

The hitch installed just as the "how to" video showed. I was out of town when the shipment arrived (right on time), so my wife and father in-law did the install. They installed the hitch and wiring harness in under an hour. It looks good and sturdy. Only the harness differed from the instructions in that the converter would not tuck in the space the man in the video used. I believe ours was thicker due to protective padding around the converter. Installed in under 1 hr. including the wiring! Online Video helped dramatically, no suprises. The only obstacle I had was that the weld nuts on the passenger side were badly corroded and I had to run a chaser tap through them, even after I cleaned them with WD40 and brushed them, but this in no way was a result of the hitch. The hitch was easier to install than I expected. A little WD-40, a tap to clean out the threads in the frame and a 5 gallon bucket to hold up the ends of the hitch during installation was a good plan. I saved $100 by purchasing the hitch from etrailer and installing it myself. 34153

All four items I ordered arrived today in good condition however the large box was open and badly broken-up. As far as mounting the hitch, the task was very straight forward and relatively easy except for one thing. It was impossible to thread in the hitch mounting bolts without first running a (12mm / 1.25) tape through the Honda Pilots mounting hardware. A few years of winter highway salt does a job on undercarriage hardware. You should recommended that the installer be prepare to chase the thread before ever starting the install. 34126

Receiver is great now that I got it mounted on the car. The mounting holes on the car next to the muffler were rusted because they were open to the weather. Others may find it helpful to clean the threads out with a wire pipe cleaner attached to a power drill. After cleaning them and running a tap through them to be safe, everything mounted great. Looks great, functions great. Just what I was looking for.23591

Very easy to install... it even took less time than the video suggested. I installed it alone without a lift. I skipped the lowering of the exhaust pipe and used the pipe to "hold" one end of the hitch while I fitted the other side and got the nuts started. It was a little tight to get the nuts started on the side with the exhaust, but not too bad. I like the profile as you can hardly see the hitch when the extension is not attached. Can't wait to hook up the tent trailer and go camping.20912

This products was ridiculously easy to install. I didn't have to lower the muffler as the instructions and video said I might. It slid right into place no problem. The only problem I had was the bolt holes on the muffler side were caked with dirt and rust from 5 years of weather exposure. I had to use alot of WD40 as well as a drill & tap set to get the bolts to thread. This problem was the car and not the hitch. It took about 3 times a long to prep the bolt holes than it did to install the hitch. The hitch itself is GREAT and does exactly what it is suppose to do. I also paid the few extra dollars for express ground shipping because I needed it in a hurry for vacation and that was a deal. Ordered on Tuesday afternoon from east coast and it arrived before I was home from work on Friday. Thanks etrailer.com!20873

This is my first order with etrailer.com, and I am very pleased. First of all, the level of product information on the website was very good, which allowed me to make an informed decision. Secondly, the installation videos were a nice touch which helped the install go quickly. Granted, it was a simple install, but seeing someone do it first was helpful. Finally, the expert help FAQ and fast delivery are additional reasons for my satisfaction. One observation: the ball mounts I have fit very snugly in this hitch. Very easy! The Hidden Hitch fits perfectly, is well built, and does not protrude beyond the top edge of the bumper. This is a good thing, as a hitch on the Pilot will only see about 2% usage. The other 98% of the time, you don't want a hitch that whacks your knees while opening the tailgate!11065

The Draw-tite hitch fit our 2006 Honda Pilot perfectly. I had it installed in 10 minutes once I had my tools gathered. The wiring harness was also easy to install. The double sided tape on the controller box is a good idea and makes securing the harness easy. Overall, I was very pleased with my purchases. The box the hitch came in was pretty tore up by UPS. The hitch had come through the corner of the box from being dragged around. Some paint was missing from the hitch which probably should get a touch up. 10480

Love the hitch! It went on relatively easily and looks great installed. Not a hitch issue, per se, but I realized later I should have dropped the spare to make the install easier, since the spare appears pinched between the hitch and the rear body now that I cranked down all the bolts. Also, install time was lengthened due to rusting of the uncovered threads on the muffler side of the vehicle. I used wd-40, the old bolts, and a lot of patience to make the threads useable from 4+ years of disuse. Someone recommended using a tap-kit to "freshen up" the threads. I would have gotten the proper tap if I hadn't done the install at night. Again, this is a vehicle problem, not a hitch kit problem. Heh. We also learned that hitch covers get stolen, so we'll be ordering locking hitch receiver cover next time. 16195
