Today on this 2010 Chrysler Town and Country we are going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 87451 and this installation will also apply for Draw-Tite hitch part number 75579. Before we get started we are going to give you a couple of final installed dimensions which will help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to measure 12-1/ 2 inches and from the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to be approximately 7 inches. Now we will move on to the hitch installation. 00:30
We are underneath the vehicle and we are starting off over on the passenger side. The first thing we are going to do is lower down the exhaust system to gain access to the passenger side frame rail. To do this we are going to lower the exhaust down off its two rear most hangers. There is one just forward of the muffler itself and if you continue forward on the vehicle just in front of the axle there is a second hanger there. These two hangers are both bolted to the frame so what we can do is take and just unbolt them. With the exhaust lowered and pulled out of the way we can point out the mounting holes we are going to be using to install the trailer hitch. 01:08
Starting over on the passenger side you look at the rear of the frame and you can see we have got two existing bolts on the rear side of the A/ C lines. We are going to remove both of those and reuse each one of those fasteners and those are going to provide the two attaching points for the trailer hitch. If you go over to the driver side you can see the same two bolts and we are going to be using both of those. However on the driver side we are going to be using a third attaching point and that is the third bolt that is in the frame on the forward side. Again, we are going to be reusing all of this hardware to put the hitch up so the next thing we want to do is remove each bolt from the frame and then we can put the hitch up into position. You want to be careful of the A/ C line when removing the bolt and also when putting the hitch up back into place. You can see the washer on the bolt is making contact so you can push that out of the way to get enough clearance with the washer to come down. 01:57
With all of the bolts removed again we are ready to put our hitch up into position and it is definitely a good idea to have a second set of hands to do this because the hitch is very heavy. Again when putting the hitch up over on the passenger side the forward side of the hitch is most likely going to slide underneath the A/ C line so you definitely want to take care when putting it up into place. When going to install over here on the driver side you may find that since the weld nuts that are inside the frame are all on one plate than when we remove the bolts likely the forward ones pushed up inside the frame and it is going to make it hard to get the bolts into position. What you can do is start at the rear most attaching point which should still be fairly close to the bottom of the frame. Put the bolt into position there and fully tighten that down and that is going to help to pull the other weld nuts back down into place. Then with all of the bolts up into position we are going to go back through now and torque the bolts down. You want to verify with the directions the specific torque ratings for each of the bolts. Then with all of the bolts torqued down we are going to go back over to the A/ C line on the passenger side and with the instruction kit is provided a little piece of loom and what we are going to do is take and feed this over the A/ C line to prevent rubbing against the hitch. With that installed we need to put the exhaust back up on its hangers and our installation will be complete. With that, that will conclude the installation of Hidden Hitch part number 87451 on a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country.

We ordered this for a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan and I highly recommend it. From the time I ordered this product, I received great communication from etrailer. I ordered my items on on Monday and needed it for a trip the following weekend. I received an email that the items would ship within 7 days which worried me as I was shipping it ground and would need time to install it. A day or so later I received an email that said it shipped and when I tracked the package, it said it would be delivered on Monday (plenty of time). Very well made and relatively easy to install. Couple of the bolts on the car were difficult to remove. The wiring harness was a perfect fit. Running the wire to the battery was a pain when you have to lay under the car.Realy would be better done on a lift. Delivery was fast. Excellent tracking. The packaging was not great and the box was burst in three location. No real damage other than some scuffing of the paint job.16049

The hitch arrived in a reasonable amount of time for the standard shipping. I have two negatives, however. I used the factory wiring harness as my vehicle was still under waranty and had the dealer install the hitch. The first negative is that there isn't a place to install the light plug on the hitch so it is not installed very solidly. The second, isn't really about the hitch, it is about the American flag that I purchased to go in the receiver when I am not pulling anything. I will not fit in my vehicle as the receiver is too far back the flag hits before going in. The price was competitive and the dealer didn't hit me too hard for the hitch installation.11445

Fairly easy to install and looks nice...works great. NOTE: Before re-installing the exhaust bolts, make sure there's some room between the muffler and the hitch, otherwise it will make a horrid sound when you start the engine as the muffler vibrates against the newly installed hitch, and then you'll have to shut off the engine, look around underneath the rear of the vehicle, and then realize that you need to loosen the exhaust bolts and hold the muffler off to the side a little while re-tightening them. :)10203

Great Hitch, Installation OK First of all eTrailer got this hitch to ne within 3 days, that was very impressive!!! Trailer hitch installation was not as fast as they say, it took me about 1 hour or so. I have a 2010 Grand Caravan and 4 out of the 5 bolts where no problem, the last one was a bit tricky. I was a heavy equipment mechanic for 10 years to give you an idea of my skill. The hitch is very well hidden, but to get a ball mount in and out is a bit difficult, but not horrible. Quaility of the hitch is very nice. I had a Hidden Hitch on my 3/4 ton truck for over 10 years w/o any problems, and I towed a 28 foot travel trailer allot with it. Bottom line, great hitch, installation a bit tougher than expected, but not horrible. I would suggest someone who is not mechanically inclined to have someone install it.2781

The video instructions on line and the written instructions provided with the kit were great. Package arrived promptly and in good condition. The only issue of slight concern is with the wiring harness -- the green wire that extends across to the passenger side tail light is BARELY long enough. One to two more feet would be nice to be able to route the wire without having to find the absolute shortest route. There's a bit more tension on the green wire around corners than what I prefer. I could cut and splice it longer I guess.27260

I ordered a Hidden Hitch trailer hitch (fourth one) from these guys late one Saturday morning. The package arrived on Tuesday! Lightening fast service, good video help support on the website, and friendly representatives who email-confirm every step of the ordering/shipping process: what's not to like? My whole family orders from etrailer and all of us strongly recommend it. Regarding the product, the trailer hitch is great...very discrete and well-hidden, but the recommended wire harness was more troublesome installing in a Dodge Caravan '08 than the previous three I installed on other vehicles. Installation tip for '08 Caravan: be sure to have a breaker bar with a 10" socket extention to remove the existing bolts (this hitch uses the bolts already on the car).26853

The Hidden Hitch 87451 was a snap to put in. The product is great. The instructions and video were excellent. Installation took 30 minutes using car ramps. I installed it on a brand new 2011 Town and Country. I highly recommend remove three exhaust hangers instead of two for ease of installation. Making installation even easier. Shipping was fast although packaging is poor. Not made for UPS ground employees throwing it around. Would highly recommend this product and etrailer. Thanks again25599

I recieved my Hidden Hitch, receiver, ball, and wiring package from etrailer.com in days from my order. The enclosed instructions were good, but I did check out the etrailer.com installation videos online. I installed the hitch and wiring, by myself, on a Saturday afternoon. For my Grand Caravan, I had to drop 3 (under rear, at rear axle, near middle of car) exhaust hangers to lower exhaust enough to easily install the hitch. The torque settings for the hitch bolts are included in the enclosed instructions - no guessing, so you can pull your toys with confidence. This is the second hitch I have ordered from etrailer.com (got new car) - both came with great instructions. I had just recently had somebody run into my truck that I was going to use to pull a trailer for our family vacation. It seemed that our vacation was ruined as I called around to rent a truck and it was very expensive to rent 1 with a tow hitch. This is the second trailer hitch that I have put on a vehicle and this is definitely a two man job because of how heavy it was and the fact the muffler was right there. Even with the removal of the two bolts holding the muffler up, one person had to hold the trailer hitch up and the other person had to bolt it up while holding the muffler out of the way. Other than that, it was a simple and easy job.19581
