Today on this 2010 Mazda CX-9 we are going to be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 75531. We are underneath our vehicle and we are going to go ahead and point out our mounting holes for our trailer hitch. We are actually looking at the inboard portion of the driver side frame rail here nearest the rear bumper. And if you take a look up here, you can see we have several existing weld nuts. We are looking for the three larger ones, the two here at the rear and the one at the forward side. Those are going to be the three fasteners we are going to use to attach our hitch to the frame. And that is going to be the same on the passenger side as well. 0:33
Attaching the hitch to the frame, we are going to be using the 12 millimeter bolts, along with the conical tooth washers, that are provided with our hitch installation kit. OK, depending on the model year of your vehicle and how many winters it may have seen, you may have some road grime and debris built up into the weld nuts. In which case, you want to thoroughly clean those out, before we get started. To do that, you just want to take a spray lubricant, like a WD-40, and a wire brush and go ahead and thoroughly clean those out. This particular vehicle, however, is brand new so we are not going to need to do that. 1:01
And then once we have ensured that the weld nuts are thoroughly cleaned, we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. What you are going to need to do is just start from the rear of the vehicle and manipulate the arms up and over the heat shield. And then once you have cleared the heat shield, you can go ahead and rotate the hitch up and around it and in to position. And then over here on the passenger side, you may find that you are having trouble getting a standard ratchet and socket in place to tighten these bolts down, due to the spare tire gear box here. If that is the case, you may want to use something like a ratchet and wrench to make the installation a little bit easier. Alright, now that we have the hitch and all of the bolts into place, we can go ahead and start torquing them down. You want to check with the directions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each of the bolts. 1:50
OK and now that we have our hitch installed, we can give you a couple of the final install dimensions. From the ground to the top of the receiver tube opening is going to run 13 inches. And from the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to be approximately 7 inches. And this will conclude the installation of Draw-Tite hitch part number 75531 on a 2010 Mazda CX-9.

Great customer service and super easy indstall! These guys have perfected themselves in the customer service department. I received like 4 emails from various departments within etrailer.com keeping me updated as to my order. They even upgraded my shipping for free. As for the hitch receiver, I was able to install this by myself in under an hour. My 2011 Mazda CX-9 has a small box of the sort that blocked my ratchet on the right side; however, I was able to accomplish the install with a 3/4 wrench instead. Etrailer provided plenty of instructions for the install, which included video and hard copy instructions. You can't miss with all the help. Installed the hitch on my 2008 Mazda CX-9. Wasn't too bad of an install, here's a few things to watch out for: 1. Hitch came nicely packed in a box, but on the edges the powder coat had come off. This might be a recipe for rust, so I put on a coat of black enamel just in case. This is why I took one star off. 2. I didn't have to jack up the CX-9, I fit under the back end. Easier job with a second person holding up one side of the hitch while you bolt in the other side, but it could be done with one person. One end goes in fine, but you really have to push in the heat shield on the other side to get the other end in. 3. Once all the bolts are in but not tightened all the way, you'll see that the sides of the hitch don't really contact the frame of the car. I just kept screwing in the bolts so that the sides of the hitch actually bent to make contact. As the metal pushes in, the screws will get loose, so you have to constantly keep re-tightening until everything is tight. 4. It says to torque to 76 ft lbs. If you do manage to get a torque wrench in there, I couldn't get it to click at 76 ft lbs, I don't have enough leverage under the car. So next time the car is at the shop for an oil change, I'll just ask them to torque all the screws to 76 lbs. 23540

Product arrived quickly and in great condition. I was able to install in about 30 minutes with assistance from my Sons. I was able to install this on a Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring without having to raise the rear of the vehicle. To do this, I started with the hitch upside down and with the receiver end facing the engine of the vehicle. My Sons and I then rotated the hitch upward and into the frame position by sliding the hitch towards the rear of the vehicle and lifting/rotating simultaneously. 22507

As previous reviewers have commented, it is practically required to jack up the vehicle to be able to slide the hitch receiver into position and the spare tire winch assy makes tightening two of the bolts on the passenger side somewhat tedious. The other thing I noticed is all the mounting holes on the receiver are oblong - there isn't one exact fit hole on the hitch receiver. While this may help with initial alignment, it also allows the receiver to 'walk' while tightening the bolts - requiring constant attention to ensure receiver is square to the frame.18174

Hitch was very easy to install. It is helpful to be able to get the back end of the vehicle off the ground a bit since you have to tilt the hitch in order to clear the muffler heat shields. I used a set of ramps since I had them available. You only need a few additional inches of clearance.16368
