Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Ford Five Hundred

Today working on a 2007 Ford Five Hundred, were going to install a Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 75299. This will also be comparable to Hidden Hitch, part number 87108. There are a couple of measurements that will assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost point of your bumper is 4inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 12inches. Now lets go ahead with the installation.

Were going to need to lower the exhaust in order to install the hitch. Before I lower the exhaust, Im going to go ahead and put a safety strap under it so that we can control how far and fast the exhaust will fall. Now to lower the exhaust, well need to spray a lubricant on the rubber hangers to make it easier to remove and reinstall. Using a pry bar, we can simply push the rubber hanger off the metal hanger. With our exhaust lower, we need to remove a couple of components before we can put our hitch in place.

First in the driver side, we need to remove the two fasteners that hold on to the metal bracket for the exhaust hanger. On the passenger side, well need to lower the carbon canister to gain access to the passenger side frame rail. Its a total of four fasteners to be removed. With those fasteners removed, were just going to go ahead and remove the carbon canister out of our way. Here in the driver side, were going to take our fish wire or bolt leader.

Were going to feed it up into the frame. Were going to go through the side mounting hole and down to the access hole in the bottom of the frame. Then well take our 1inch by 2inch block slided onto the pole wire and then thread on our carriage bolt. Now were going to go ahead and feed both components up into the frame, but well not pull them in position until we get our hitch in place. As we put our hitch in place, well feed our pole wire through our attachment point.

Nows the good time to get an extra set of hands that will help you hold the hitch in place while you install your fasteners. On the driver side, well be using new 8mm nuts that come with our install kit and conical tooth washers with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch. To hold the driver side in place, Im going to go ahead and run these down to secure the driver side. With our two fasteners holding the driver side, Im now going to move over to the passenger side. Well use our self-threading bolt and conical tooth washer. Now back over on the driver side, we can go ahead and take our bolt leader and pull our fasteners into position then tighten it down with a conical tooth washer and nut. All right, with our fastener in position, Im going to go ahead and tighten it down. Now here on the driver side, what well need to do on the exhaust hanger, well need to cut off the hook that goes up into the frame as our hitch takes the place of the hole in the frame. What were going to do is take a grinder, our cut off wheel, and cut off the hook. Well remove the two fasteners and then go ahead and reinstall the exhaust hanger sandwiching the hitch between the exhaust hanger and the frame. Now because we have the rearmost fastener holding the driver side in place, well go ahead and remove the two lower frame rail or forward fastener. With all our fasteners tightened down for the hitch, well go ahead and torque the specifications as indicated in the instructions. With all of our fasteners tightened down for the hitch, well go ahead and reinstall the carbon canister. With the emissions canister reinstalled, well go ahead and reinstall our exhaust. And with our exhaust reinstalled, that completes the install of part number 75299 on our 2007 Ford Five Hundred.

This is the second hitch I bought from etrailer. The look and the fit are excellent, and the workmanship is good. Our first hitch is now 4 years old and looks like the day I bought it . Shipping was ontime. Price was the lowest I could find. 22708

Easy to install, just make sure to watch the videos on the website. Doing so will make life much easier on yourself. I installed this without a lift or without assistance. Some of the bolts can be tricky to guide through, but they will go in. Very nice receiver.20149

Excellent product, and great video... as usual, most automotive aftermarket installation instructions are 1 sheet of paper printed in black on white - the video was all that was needed. There were extra parts in the kit, based on a couple variations that occur based on the model year. My 2008 Taurus X used the self-threading bolts for the passenger side and two of the bolts/washers/anti-rotation plates on the drivers side. With everything loosely mounted, I was easily able to get the bolts all perfectly aligned. The product was very well made and works perfectly.13250

I am really pleased with this hitch. It was easy to install. The video was very helpful too. It went on as easy as shown in the video. We got this hitch to carry our bikes on the bike hitch rack, and. It does a good job of that.13007

Had a problem with the bolt thru-the-hole thing, but Etrailer's video was a big, big help. Fit of Hitch was very good. Had to touch up powdercoat with paint in a few spots. Instructions were hard to read until I found PDF and blew it up on my computer screen. Watching the movie and blowing up the PDF made all of the difference !7542

Perfect fit - as easy as it can get. This installation took me about 1 hour and 30 minutes but I took my time and went over the directions a few times. I definitely recommend watching the installation videos as it helps to clarify the diagram in the instructions. It would also be helpful to have an extra pair of hands to assist in lifting the hitch in place. Socket extensions and an impact wrench will also help shorten the install time. Great product that looks and works just as described.3783

Installed perfectly I bought and installed this on my 2006 Ford Freestyle SEL. Etrailer.com had the best price and the installation video gave me confidence that I could install this on my own. Without power tools or a lift it took more like two hours, but that was with taking my time, especially with routing the two driver side bolts that need the fish wire (which worked extremely well). You will need a second person to hold an end as the video shows. Also, the two large nuts are 7/8 inches while the rest are metric, so a 7/8 inch deep socket is required (a minor purchase that will save you time and frustration, believe me). 2270

Overall a great product It took awhile to install. Fishing both the bolts and the plates through the frame was harder that I thought. I used a file to enlarge the access hole in the frame. Once that was done the rest was just as described. Needed two people though, to line up frame with holes.2254

Pay attention to exhaust brack Basically went in according to instructions but with a few surprises. The horizontal carriage bolt block had to be carefully slid into position which took some time. The fishing of that bolt also was tricky. I fashioned a hook out of some stiff wire I pushed up in the hole to snag the fish wire. Before you tourque everything down make sure the holes for the exhaust bracket are lined up or you will have to loosen everything back up, realign, and retighten (that was a bummer). I had to go out and buy a 7/8 inch socket for the carriage bolts and 15 mm socket for the M12 bolts. I thought that was weird. Most sets don't have those. (Who uses a 15mm socket?) I was able to do it all alone without jacking the car up - not all that bad.2066

Great fit, smooth installation This hitch installed perfectly on my 2008 Taurus X. I was a little hesitant to cut the exhaust mount like it says, but it all fits perfectly and looks like it's a factory mount. The fish wire they shipped with it was a godsend. It took me about 35 mins or so from soup to nuts.1111

Fine, once it's installed Due to what I assume was spring-back in the weldment, this Hidden Hitch was a bit of a headache to install. After much tugging and (I'm ashamed to admit) a little help from my wife, I got the holes to line up -- barely. Would have been a good deal easier with 2 people. Carries my bike rack just fine now that it's in place.365
