Master Lock Truck Bed Security Lock Review

Video Transcript for Master Lock Truck Bed Security Lock Review

Today we are going to review part number 8287DAT from Master Lock, the truck bed security you lock and also accompanying part number 78DPF this is their Master Lock 10 millimeter braided security cable. First thing we will go over is the components of the lock itself. You can see it has the mount that goes to the truck bed itself, the actual lock, and the U bolt part and then also it comes with an Allen key and also a set of keys. This unit we will mount to the truck bed in two different ways. First off as shown here that the hardware is used to install it to the stake pocket on the top of the bed itself. This lock can also replace one of the tie down points on the bed of the vehicle. To begin our install what we are going to have to do is actually take apart the lock and that is a good way to show you how it works. 00:41

First off we will take off the cap for the lock cylinder using the key. Turn it, it comes out, just twist it and it stays out because next you have to use the included Allen key to unbolt the other half. Notice you have the two pieces bolted together and you can see that is how it gets anchored to the loop at the bottom. This is the part that gets installed first. Take our plastic cover off and you can see the steel structure underneath. It comes preassembled and the basics for this configuration right now are ready to install in the stake pocket of the truck. In this example we are using a Ford F-150 2005 model and this one has a cover over this stake pocket we will just pop that out. 01:35

To install it we are just going to let it fall in. Pull up the one side and we want to make sure that this up turned edge catches on the inside edge of the pocket. Shake it a little bit and then pull it straight up to make sure it does not come out. Use a Phillips bit screwdriver and we will just tighten it to the bed. Once we have it tightened down to the stake bed pocket we can put the cover back on and the rest of the lock like that and then the other half. Take your Allen key and thread it back together. Snug it down and then put the loop back into place, turn the key, and it is installed and it is designed to pivot that way so whatever you have tied down to it, it can move. As a typical application we are going to use this generator so we can use our cable to wrap it through the frame and it is nice to have that move up and down. We are going to have it unlocked so put our cables to it. Our generator is now secured to the pickup. 03:13

Next we will show you the attaching point on the factory tie down and we are going to take out the two factory bolts. Bolt this and we will be using the original factory hardware. Next we will take these plates off. Take off the components that are needed for the stake bed pocket and we will just leave those alone and we will match up the holes on our tie downs and whichever ones line up the best we will use those and reinstall the factory hardware with the gasket. Next we will install the plastic cover. Same as before, reassemble the lock, see that it draws itself together and our truck bed lock is now secured to the bed and now we can secure anything we want to this. Snug this down nice and tight against the loop. Just lock up the generator again just like we did before. Wrap the security cable around the frame. With that, that finishes our review of part number 8287DAT from Master Lock, the truck bed security U lock and also part number 78DPF the 10 millimeter braided steel cable also from Master Lock. This also comes in a kit part number 8287DAT-78DPF.
