Atwood Trailer Coupler - 82541

Actuator has a heavy gauge stamped steel housing with a ball socket assembly. Breakaway mechanism sets and locks the trailer brakes in the event of tow vehicle/trailer separation. The unique pivot linkage permits a lightweight, more compact design. The electrodeposited enamel finish exceeds A.S.T.M. 96-hour salt-spray test requirements providing corrosion protection. The "Reverse Lock-Out" lever allows for easier backing up of trailer.

My old coupler had been neglected by the previous owner and was not salvagable. New coupler looks great and bolted right in place where the old one was. Even came with new bolts and 90° brass fitting for brake line. Only negative mark is the hardware is attached to the unit with packaging tape. When I pulled off the tape it left a sticky residue all around my new unit. Going to take some time to clean that off... otherwise, I'm happy so far.22530

Appears to be exactly like the old one which has lasted since 1984. 'It probably would have lasted longer had it been lubricated more often and not sat around so much. The order was delivered promptly. Thank you very much. Ric7165

Troubleshooting Latch not Opening to Attach to Trailer Hitch Ball on Atwood Actuator # 82541
I went out to the warehouse and pulled an Atwood Actuator, # 82541, to examine it more closely. I did find that it takes considerable force to pull the latch open. Beyond that, I found that if you loosen the bolt that holds the latch in place a little, the mechanism will move more freely. Make sure not to remove the bolt as the spring inside that creates tension for the handle will fall off. Tighten the bolt back down when finished moving the latch.

Will the Atwood Master Cylinder # 82541 Replace the Atwood Master Cylinder with Casting # 85736
As long as your trailer has drum brakes, the Atwood Master Cylinder, # 85841, will be the correct part to replace your existing master cylinder. This master cylinder has been used on most Atwood Drum Brake Actuators since 1980. We have an installation video showing how to replace this master cylinder that should be helpful. If you need a new cap for the master cylinder, the Replacement Master Cylinder Cap and Gasket, # A87478, is the correct replacement for the # 82541 master cylinder.
