There has been a running change made by the manufacturer to increase the weight capacity of the product. Pictured on the left is the old style coupler that was rated at 12,000 lbs The new style coupler (pictured above) has a 15,000 lbs capacity.

- Troubleshooting Difficulty Getting Ball Properly Connected into Trailer Coupler # 80281
- I went out to the warehouse and pulled an Atwood Trailer Coupler, # 80281, and a 2-5/16 inch diameter ball, # 19286, to do a little testing. I found that the coupler can be a little finicky. If the latch is not pushed all the way down and out (toward the trailer), you will have trouble getting the ball to come out.

- What are the Dimensions of the Two Holes and the Width of the Adjustable Trailer Coupler # 80281
- The width of the Trailer Coupler 2-5/16 inch Adjustable (15,000 lbs), item # 80281, is 2-13/16 inches. The two holes in the side are 5/8 inches diameter and are 2 inches on center apart.
The 5/8 inch bolts that attach the coupler to the channel on the trailer are 4-1/2 inches long and have a shoulder area of 3-1/4 inches.
