Today on our 2008 Jeep Commander well be installing the Draw Tite hitch, part number 75338. This is what our hitch will look like once its installed. Next well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is four inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 17 and one-quarter inch. This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a draw bar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier.
Now lets go ahead with installation. Note weve already gone ahead and lowered and removed the spare tire for easier installation and access. Note we have a total of four attachment points in the bumper beam pre-drilled by the manufacturer. In order to get our hitch in place well need to remove two of the plastic push pin fasteners located on the bottom side of the bumper beam. Using our flat bladed screwdriver well pry the center of the plastic fastener out and then remove the fasteners.
Now you can see that we can go ahead and push the bumper fascia away from the bumper beam. This will allow us to slide the hitch into position. Well be using the hardware provided with our install kit, half inch bolts, and conical tooth washers with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch. As the bolt will go through the hitch, through the bumper beam, back into the weld nut of the hitch to be secured. Note some applications will need the large flat spacer washers put between the hitch and the bumper beam.
Now lets go ahead and put our hitch in place. Well install one of the half inch bolts to hold the hitch while we attempt to install two flat washers into one position. Well start with the center two fasteners first and then the outside two fasteners. For this application there is not enough space so well just install one flat washer between the hitch and the bumper beam. Well do this for all of our fasteners one per bolt.
Now with all our fasteners installed finger tight were ready to go ahead and tighten them down. Next well go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Were ready to reinstall the bumper fascia fasteners. Thatll complete the install of our Draw Tite hitch, part number 75338, on our 2008 Jeep Commander.

Very simple and easy to install! I was a little skeptical to add it on that it wold sit to low on my 08 Grand Cherokee, and not look clean. I was very happy to be wrong and think it looks great. I was also very pleased with the t-harness for the trailer wiring. All said and done it was well in the affordable category and about 45min total for the install of both parts. Excellent, affordable hitch I have a 2006 Grand Cherokee. I installed this myself in about 30 minutes with very little experience. It's a tight fit to get it placed, but once you do, it looks great and hangs about 2 millimeters below the bumper. I've towed a fully loaded 6x12 U-haul from Florida to Chicago with it and it worked like a charm. Since then, I've only used it for bike racks and cargo carriers, but it hasn't let me down yet. I love it.902
