Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Chevrolet Uplander

Today on this 2006 Chevrolet Uplander we are going to install part number 87410 from Hidden Hitch. This installation also applies to part number 75278 from Draw-Tite. Looking at the drivers side frame rail, you can see there are two existing holes right here, and there will be a third hole drilled right here. On the passenger side we are going to use these two existing bolt holes. The new hardware that comes with the hitch will replace these, and the exhaust bracket will get installed on the top of the hitch. It is also going to be the same story with the body support bracket too. :32

The threads on the drivers side have seen some miles, so, we are going to spray those down with WD-40 and take the factory bolts and just clean them out a little bit. Next, we are going to install the hitch on the bolts that we just cleaned out on the drivers side and also on the bolts we just took out on the passenger side. We are going to hang the hitch by those bolts and snug it down for now and we will use the hitch as a template to drill out our holes in the frame. 1:17

When you install the hitch on this particular model, you want to make sure the bolt hole on the hitch matches up with the bolt hole for our support bracket, that will help you center it up. Once you have it centered the way you want it, snug it down tight, and then we will start drilling. The next thing we are going to do is use a 1/ 2 inch bit and put it in the hitch just to mark the center, and then use a 1/ 4 bit to make a pilot hole and come back through with the 1/ 2 inch bit. This is going to be identical on both sides of the vehicle. What is going to happen next is this bolt is going to be threaded in from the bottom, so that means that this handle nut will need to be put inside the frame. There is an access hole we can use to install the handle nut, but we are going to change the handle nut to make it easier to get down closer to the hole in the frame. The design behind it is to take the handle, and bend it whichever way you want to get inside there. Now take your handle nut, and align it with the hole, so when you tighten it down it does not rotate and pull the handle inside the frame. We are going to repeat this same process back over on the drivers side. 2:41

Back on the passenger side, we are going to take the body stiffener bracket and thread it right to the factory nut. Next, what we are going to do is take out these two bolts, and reinstall the exhaust bracket. Now that we have all our bolts down, we will snug then down, then torque them down as specified in the instructions. With all our bolts torqued down that finishes our install of part number 87410 from Hidden Hitch. As for measurements, it looks like 13 1 /4 inches and from the center of the hitch pin to the edge of the bumper is about 6 inches.
