Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2011 Honda Odyssey

Today on this 2011 Honda Odyssey, were gonna install part number 87479 from Hidden Hitch. This also applies for part number 75270 from Draw-Tite.This is what the hitch looks when its installed on a van. Next, were go ahead and produce measurements that will help you out in selecting some accessories such as the ball mount, the bicycle rack or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper is going to be 6 inches and from the top of the receiver down to the ground is going to be 12 inches. Alright, now were gonna show you how the hitch is installed.First thing you need to do is get underneath the vehicle and remove this panel right here. Theres gonna be four fasteners for the panel itself and therell be a fifth one that goes through the panel and the mudflap.

Just go ahead and pop it out. Now this panel will be left off.Well go ahead and show you where the hitch mounts up to in the van. Therell be three threaded holes in the frame. Were looking at the driver side of course and itll be identical on the passenger side. Now, were gonna take a moment to cleanup these threads here since this holes have been exposed to the elements. Well spray some lubricants in there and use our wire brush to help clean them out.

The part number for the wire brush were using is 814092. Now, the older the vehicle gets, the more time this is going to take and more cleaning will be required. Within a few years down the road, you need to use a thread cap.Alright, we can go ahead and put the hitch on the van. To give you an idea of whats going on, this block is gonna sit between the hitch and the van and will be held together with the bolt and a conical tooth washer and the teeth will always go towards the hitch. So well take our hitch, well slide it over the exhaust first, hold that side up.

Well install the hardware on the driver side first. Were gonna use a bolt to hold the hitch up for now. Well go ahead with the other two remaining holes, install the spacers and the hardware and come back and install the spacer for this side.Well come back to our middle bolt and put our spacer in. Well go ahead and repeat the same process back over on the passenger side. Sometimes youre in this situation where for some reason the hitch doesnt reach all the way across the other side is because sometimes it happens when the bolts going towards the front of the van.

Were just gonna use the pry bar but you can use anything to pry against to just move it over. Youll see how easy it is to move. And were not distorting anything in the trunk well either. With all our hardware installed, well go ahead and snug it down. Were gonna torque it down as specified in instructions./The instructions say we leave this panel off however we found out that we actually drill this hole out right here about a half inch size, you can actually have a wiggle room to put all the fasteners up into place. This edge here, you may have to trim. On some vehicles, this depends on how the hitch sits on there. A lot of times you can just sit it up against the hitch, just set it in and itll be just fine.Alright, with that, thatll finish it for install of part number 87479 from Hidden Hitch.

Very fast delivery and fit like a glove. For those who have a used vehicle, IMO it is much faster to clean out the existing welded frame bolts by buying a tap from your local automotive store to match the bolts that come with your hitch. In my case, the tap was $6.50 and the size was a metric 12 with a thread size of 1.25. I screwed the tap into each frame welded nut hole one time after spraying each hole with WD-40, which cleaned out the rust and road grime and allowed me to install the hitch bolts with ease.25917

Excellent. Delivered quickly and love the website with instructions/video. I don't have great tools (no floor jack) and still only took me about an hour. I used two of the jacks (one from each car) that come with your car for changing a flat....One on each side. 14963

I receive the hitch assy in only 3 days complete with installation instructions that were easy to understand with the necessary hardware The hitch almost fit as advertised. I had to pry each side to get all 3 bolts started, but once bolted up, the hitch looks like a professional installation. The wiring harness was easy to install also and the instructions were clear.12889

I was 100% satisfied with the quality of the hitch. The installation was a breeze. I had that thing installed in no more than a half hour. The only complaint I have is how it was shipped. By the time the hitch got to my house, it had wore holes in the box it was packaged in. That caused the hitch's coat of paint to be chipped and scraped in a lot of areas. I had to spot spray paint in several areas to avoid premature rust prior to installing. 11830

The hitch is just what I expected. The installation instruction and video's made this a success on installation. The 2000 Odyssey had no hitch and was driven up to the mountains for skiing for almost 11 years. The instructions to run the bolts in and out till the thread became "clean" worked great. It took several hours to clean out the bolts but once clean the hitch was installed with no problems.9835

Took the hitch out of the box and squirted some WD40 into the tread holes for the bolts. Hung the right end of the hitch over the tail exhaust pipe, screwed in a couple of bolts on the left end of the hitch, then started the all 3 bolts on the right end and snugged them up, doing the same on the left, torque them all up. The holes on the hitch perfectly matched the stud holes on the the vehicle frame. It took less than 15 minutes to mount up the hitch. Thank you for a fine manufactured product.9808

This Draw-Tite hitch was a perfect fit for my 2010 Honda Odyssey. It is sturdy and the mounting bolts look like it will have no difficulty towing heavier trailers. We were pleased that the shipping date was advanced to a more expensive plan with no additional cost to me. The staff at Etrailer is efficient and friendly. Each item I purchased arrive on or before the date promised.8581

Outstanding Customer Service and Product Price was great, shipping was upgraded, installation videos made it all easy. I installed the Draw Tite hitch and Reese plug in for a 2008 Honda Odyssey. I did it on my own in under 20 minutes thanks to the videos provided by etrailer.com. There is no reason to pay anyone to install this if you are physically able. Had I not reviewed the installation video, I might not have attempted the install. Great communication from etrailer.com and great product. I am a very happy customer. 5217

2011 Honda Odyssey Tourning trailer hitch The hitch arrived in two days even though it was supposed to take 3-5. It arrived in perfect condition. The instructions was clear and easy to understand. You may want to update the instructions for the 2011 Touring as there is a plastic boot on the drivers side that needs to be removed. It can be replaced after installation of the hitch, but it doesn't really appear to serve any particular purpose. I installed the hitch with no lift or jack stands. By raising one side and holding it with plastic wire ties it only took me 30 minutes to install the hitch, and another 10 to replace the boot. Everything lined up with little or no effort. 5176

Quality Assessment of Received Hitch Product received was exactly what was ordered, installation was simple and performed within 25 minutes. Only one recommendation...improve the handling and packaging of the hitch. It was received with a large scratch on it. There were no packaging materials in the box. The consumer should never receive a product that is damaged. Would you buy a new vehicle with a large scratch?3825

Installed in a snap I installed this on my 06 Odyssey in the fall of 05 and we recently traded for a 2010 model. I am transferring it to the 2010 model after some touch up on a few rust spots on the hitch. Thanks to my coating the nuts and bolts with white lithium grease when I installed it in 05, when I went to remove it from the older van it came off with a minimal amount of torque and the bolts backed out as smooth as silk. What a great product. I plan on using it for many more years to come.3491

Skip the dealership! We just bought a popup camper and needed to install a hitch for it on our 08 Odyssey. Your installation videos convinced us to give it a try, especially when the Honda dealership wanted almost four times the price. We installed it this morning. The hardest part was cleaning out the holes - the actual installation was pretty simple, but for us it was a 2-person job. We didn't need a jack or anything. Well done, etrailer! I've already recommended you to some friends.3221

Works great on a 2006 Odyssey If you can screw in 6 bolts, then you can install this hitch yourself. I didn't even have to lower the exhaust pipe, as I could simply move it off to the side a bit to get a straight line to the pre-existing screw holes. I was able to install this without lifting the van off the ground. I used some wood to prop the hitch up a bit, then was able to easily screw it on. I did it by myself with no help.2721

Nice Hitch! Installed this hitch on my '05 Odyssey. Was very easy to install once the mounting tappings on the car were cleaned. After 4 years and 60,000 miles, there was a tremendous build up of rust in the tapped threads. It took a lot of WD-40, a wire pipe cleaning brush (one typically used to prep 1/2" copper pipe for plumbing) and an pneumatic impact wrench to work the bolts in and out of the threads until the treads were sufficiently workable. If my Odyssey was a brand new '09 model, it probably would have been a snap to intall the hitch in just 15-20 minutes.2282

holes are not matched the van These are 1 to 0.5 mm mis-alignment from the holes on this hitch, so I can only apply two screws on each side. My van is 07 Odyssey. My friend own 02 Odyssey and he had the same order of the hitch and he had the same problem. If I knew this earlier, I would order another brand. The only one thing that I can make myself to be little relax is, he had installed that for 2 year for carrying 4 bikes, so far the hitch still do the good job.1984

Easy to Install EXCEPT... Great Service from eTrailer-very responsive. I watched video on installing hitch for Honda Odessey- did not need to move exahuast - able to slip around easily. Only issue was bolt holes closest to bumber on both sides (left/right). No amount of cleaner/brush etc would allow those bolts to thread more than half way. Solution, half inch breaker bar. First four bolts in smooth as silk, done in 10 minutes. Last 2 bolts, let's just say more than 10 minutes. Looks great and even thought it is a class III you can hardly notice it. Thanks eTrailer - you are definetly on the recommend list!1901

This hitch fit perfectly and all bolt holes lined up. The instructions and hardware were correct. The only suggestion that I have would be for users to purchase/borrow an M12-1.25 tap to clean out the holes before attempting the intstallation. On our 2005 Odyssey there was quite a bit of dirt and rust built up inthe holes. I first attempted to clean out the holes using a wire brush from a gun cleaning kit and just about a whole can of wd40 and really struggled. When I attempted to install the bolts into the dirty holes I was having to use excessive force to turn them and was nervous about breaking one off. Luckily I was able to borrow a tap to clean out the holes and the rest ofthe installation went flawlessly. If you use the tap you can be sure that when you torque the 6 bolts to the recommended 68 ft-lbs at the end you are actually tighly securing the hitch to the vehicle frame. Unless your vehicle it new....get a tap it will save you 2 hours and make the installation more secure. Would be a nice addidition if you could purchase the correct tap from this website when checking out. Thanks!21178

The trailer hitch itself looks sturdy, well built and cosmetic. However my hitch had been bent or something. All of the holes would not line up and I had to do a fair ammount of prying to get it to semi-fit. I was only able to secure 5 of the 6 bolts and it took 2 hours for that. Could have sent it back but I was in a pinch for time.18267

  • Recommend Trailer Hitch And Bike Rack To Carry 4 Bicycles On My 2007 Honda Odyssey
  • I would recommend going with a Class III 2 Inch Hitch like the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75270 that you selected. A Class III hitch is the highest rated hitch we have available for the 2007 Honda Odyssey and will have the greatest tongue and towing weight capacity. I recommend a Class III hitch, since you will be carry 4 bicycles, the bikes and the bike rack will be considered tongue weight. The Swagman Trailhead 4 Bike Carrier, part # S63380, would be a good option to carry 4 bicycles on you

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2008 Honda Odyssey
  • Because of the mounting locations present on a 2008 Honda Odyssey and the fact that all of the available hitches have cross tubing that is straight across, all of the hitches will be visible on the van. You can look at the pictures on the product pages for the hitches to get a good idea of what they will look like on your van. I have included a link to all the hitches for you to view. • Cleaning Out Vehicle Weld Nuts in Order to Install Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75270
  • The bolts used to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75270, are M12 x 1.25 x 35mm. The problem you are having is a common one on vehicles that have seen at least one winter. • Adding 7-way adapter to 75270
  • We have an installation video showing the # ETBC7 kit being used to install a brake controller on a 2009 Odyssey. The short bracket, part # 18136 would be fine for your Odyssey. The actual 7-way mounting bracket can be installed to the 18136 backwards, as shown in the video. This should place the face of the 7-way more or less flush with the face of the bumper. To see the install video, click on the provided link.

  • The trailer hitches for a 2003 Honda Pilot will not fit a 2009 Honda Odyssey. The attachment points and dimensions of the vehicle require different trailer hitches. I have included a link to the available trailer hitches for a 2009 Honda Odyssey for you. We have Class II and Class III trailer hitches available. A Class II trailer hitch will have a lower capacity and a 1-1/4 inch receiver. A Class III hitch has a higher capacity and a 2 inch receiver. A Class III trailer hitch will afford you

  • Honda Odyssey Custom Built Class III Round Tube Trailer Hitch Bolt Sizes
  • The custom fit receivers we offer do come with the appropriately sized/pitched bolts. If anything we get phone calls where the 1.25 bolts seem too big. If you have any issues trying to get the bolts into the existing weld nuts on the van we recommend cleaning the holes with a lubricant (like WD40 or PartsBlaster) and a wire brush to eliminate any dirt or debris in the threads. Sometime when doing this installation for local customers we thread the bolt up as far as it will go, remove it, spray a
