On my 2002 Pathfinder I did not have to drop the muffler but I did have to remove the evap canister on the drivers side and dropping the spare tire gave me a bit more room. You'll actually want to undo the bracket that the evap canister is attached to since that is what is in your way. It's a really tight fit so you'll really have to do some wiggling to get all the bolts in but that's to be expected. Jack stands held it nicely until I got those first couple of bolts up. I haven't towed with it yet but it's a heavy hunk of steel so it should do okay.

Installed on my Infiniti QX4 after removing the existing tow brackets and lowering the evap. bracket holder. I didn't have to remove the spare tire as it fit perfectly around it. All bolt holes fit perfectly.
