This J-Pin assembly is basically an anti-sway device and also a device to lock down your ball mount for security purposes. Well take it apart and show you how it works. You put the key on there and give it a turn and it pops out and comes apart like so. Then you take this nut which comes off also, and this gets installed. As you can see, it goes through the hitch pin hole and then this has to go into a hole thats been punched into the receiver hitch itself. This hole combination is really specific to Draw-Tite hitches only, so this would really only work on Draw-Tite hitches of recent manufacture in the last couple years. Once you have your pin installed, put the nut back on and the kit does provide a wrench for it so we can give it a good snug. What happens is it keeps it from rattling around anymore. Pop the lock into place, push the button and youre good to go. There you have it, thats for part # 63201, the J-Pin Stabilizing Lock from Tow Ready.

This product is simple, easy to use, and does the job as advertised. I use this product in conjunction with a cargo platform and it eliminates most of the flex/bounce you would have with a standard hitch pin. The lockset is also a nice feature and both the pin and lockset seem to be plenty durable. 29414

  • Different Pin Hole Depths on Class III Trailer Hitch Accesories
  • The two pin holes that you are seeing, on Draw-Tite, Reese and Hidden Hitches are not what you think. They install another, smaller hole, other than the receiver pin hole for the J-Pin anti-rattle device. The part number is # 63201. The standard pin hole depth on a Class III hitch is normally 2-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the face of the receiver. This is not a hard and fast rule and may be slightly different between hitch models and manufacturers.

  • Drilling a hole in your hitch will void the manufacturers warranty.   • For lubricating any lock, a dry lubricant like powdered graphite is recommended. Using grease and oil or spray lubricants like WD 40 can actually attract dirt and grime and make the lock cylinder sticky after a time.
