Today we are going to be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 24808 on a 2006 Toyota Prius. This application will also apply for Hidden Hitch part number 60894. We are underneath the vehicle, and we are looking at the passengers side frame rail. As you see here at the end, we have got a tow hook with two bolts that are holding it in. We are going to remove both the tow hook and the bolts. And we are going to use those weld nuts as the attaching point for the trailer hitch. Over here on the drivers side, we are going to be doing the same thing, but we need to remove the bolts and the tow hook.
Then, as you can see, we have got a big plastic handle that is covering the tow hook and the frame altogether. So we need to remove that first in order to gain access to the tow hook. To remove the plastic cover, we have got two push pins here on the bumper side, and we have got two 6-millimeter bolts: one here, and then one here, as well. The area that we need to trim is going to be here and here. So we are going to need to cut out that section in there. And that should give us enough room to get the hitch up into place.
So, the first thing we need to do is to go ahead and remove the plastic undercover here, and the two tow hooks. We will go ahead and get the hitch set up and ready to go. Okay, now that we have got the two hooks down, we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. We are going to replace the fasteners that we had in the frame before with the 10-millimeter bolts, as well as the conical-tooth washer. Okay, now that we have got the bolts up into place, we can go ahead and torque them down. Check with the directions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. Okay, and you can see I have now got the plastic cover trimmed out. You can see how it fits around the hitch when we put it back up into place. And with that, that will complete the installation of hitch part number 24808 on a 2006 Toyota Prius.
