Today we are working on a 2005 Cadillac CTS. We will be installing a Draw-Tite hitch, part number 24767. This will also be comparable to Hidden Hitch part number 60830. Here are a couple of measurements that will assist you with ing accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost point of the bumper is approximately 6-3/4 inches. And from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is approximately 9-3/4 inches. 0:27
Our first step towards installing our hitch is going to actually be to lower the exhaust. But before I do that, I want to take a safety strap and put it across the exhaust so that the exhaust will not fall any further than I need it to. With my safety strap on, I am then going to take some liquid penetrant and spray each one of the muffler hangers. There are going to be two in the rear and one in the front on each side. This lubricant will make it easier to remove the rubber hangers and then to reinstall them later. Alright, with all of my hangers lubed down, we can go ahead and remove them. That completes the three on the driver side. I will go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger side. 1:09
Next we need to get into the trunk of the vehicle and we are going to remove the spare tire cover. With the cover out of the way, we can remove the four tie-down hooks so that we can peel back the carpet. So when we drill the holes from underneath, we will not drill into our carpet. There are the two on the passenger side. I will repeat the same process for the two on the driver side. With the spare tire cover and hold downs removed, we can go ahead and peel back the carpeting to give ourselves plenty of room to work with when we drill our holes. We will do this on both sides. Now with everything out of the way in the trunk and our exhaust lowered, we can go ahead and put our hitch up in position. What we are going to do at this time is get an extra set of hands. One person will hold the hitch in place while the other uses a drill bit to mark the center of the holes. 2:12
With our holes drilled out, we now need to take our bolt plates and put them over the holes that we drilled on the inside of the trunk. But before we do that, we want to take some sealer that will help hold out any moisture from the outside and also any exhaust gases that could seep into the trunk compartment. Once you have your bolt plate in place, we can take our bolts and them in. Alright, now go ahead and repeat the same process on the driver side. Now with our bolt fasteners in place, we can go ahead and put our hitch back up into position and bolt it down. It is a good time to get an extra set of hands to help you hold it in place while you install your fasteners. We are using lock washers and nuts as our fasteners. We are just installing our fasteners finger tight at this time until we get all four fasteners in place. There are the two on the driver side. We will repeat the same process on the passenger side. 3:35
With all four fasteners run down, we can go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. That completes the driver side. I will repeat the same process on the passenger side. With our hitch tightened down, we can go ahead and reinstall our exhaust. There is the driver side. I will repeat the same process on the passenger side. With our exhaust reinstalled, we can go ahead and remove our safety strap and this completes the installation of our Draw-Tite hitch, part number 24767.
