Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Today on this 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt we are going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 60808. This installation will also apply for Draw-Tite hitch part number 24745. We are underneath the vehicle and the first thing you will notice about this vehicle is that it has a black appearance panel on it. Not all models have it but if yours does this will need to come off so I am going to do that first. There are two screws holding it in as well as four tabs on the bottom of the bumper. With that panel removed we can put the fascia fasteners back into place so that the bottom of the fascia does not flap around. The next thing you want to do is go over to the driver side of the vehicle and we want to lower the exhaust down so we can have some more working room. 00:59

Now that we have got the holes drilled in the bottom of the frame you want to fish the carriage bolt and block assemblies inside the frame down through those holes. We are also going to be using the 1/ 2 inch bolt leader to get the hardware inside the frame. We are just going to take the threaded end and feed it through the bottom of the frame and out this larger access hole. Next we will take the one by three inch block and feed it on to the bolt leader followed by the carriage bolt which we will wrap the threads of the bolt leader around the threads of the carriage bolt. Feed them both inside the frame and pull them down in to position. Again we want to repeat that procedure for the driver side of the vehicle and we will put the hitch up into position. We are going to be attaching the hitch to the carriage bolt at this attaching point using the conical tooth washer and hex nut. 02:46

With that hardware in place we are now going to move to the bumper attaching points and you can see how they meet up with the bottom of the bumper here on the driver side. Also on the passenger side as well. At this point we want to drill out the 1/ 2 inch holes into the bumper. The bumper might be difficult to drill through and may require the use of a rotary bit. With our holes drilled through the bottom of the bumper we are going to do the same fish wiring procedure that we have done on the previous holes. For this one our access point is going to be out at the end of the bumper structure itself so starting over here at the passenger side I am going to be using the threaded end and feed it through like so. We are going to be using the same carriage bolt and block assembly. On this bolt instead of a conical tooth washer we are going to be using a lock washer and hex nut. That is going to be the same on the driver side as well. With all of the hardware in place we are going to go back through now and torque our bolts down. You want to verify with the directions the specific torque rating for each of the bolts. Now that we have got all of our bolts torqued down we just want to make sure we put our exhaust back up on its hangers and our installation will be complete. Now with our hitch installed we are going to give you a couple of final installed dimensions that will help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to measure 14 inches and from the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to be approximately six inches. This will conclude the installation of Hidden Hitch part number 60808 on 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt.

Fast shipping and great communication. This looks like a very sturdy and well made product. I put mine on an HHR SS. There were concerns over interference with the shroud, but this is virtually nill. Anything you can see requires you to lay down and look up. I couldn't install it for a couple months after I got it because of the endless rain. My only complaint so far was the difficulty of installation. What a total PITA. Especially the fish tape that wouldn't come off the bolts for anything after fishing them through the holes. It ended up getting bent to crap each time. The kit really needs a seperate fish tape for each bolt. Eventually I got it installed in about three hours, (long enough for my stereo to kill the battery). The name is right, Hidden Hitch. You can hardly tell it's there.16184

Great service on the shipping. Item arrived on time and looks very sturdy. Installation will have to wait a few weeks as I managed to mangle my hand the day it arrived. 7256

Just Right. Purchased and installed this on my '08 HHR in Nov. 08. Installation was simple thanks to e-Trailer's website videos. I bought it to mount the Swagman #S64670 bike carrier, which fits it fine. The package works great for carrying our bikes. We have taken several trips and everything just fits and works fine. e-Trailer is a very good company with which to do business. I recemmend them to you for all your trailering & hauling needs. 1774

Ask the Experts about this Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch

  • Differences Between Trailer Hitch Receivers for a 2008 Chevrolet HHR LT1
  • We currently offer 4 different Class I hitches available for your 2008 Chevy HHR LT1. There are a few differences among them. The Hidden Hitch, part # 60815, includes a drawbar, pin and clip. The Draw-Tite hitch, part # 24756, and the Valley hitch, part # V58900, are pretty similar. Some people prefer one brand over the other. The Curt hitch, part # 11447, includes a drawbar, pin and clip and has a glossier finish than the others but requires about 20 more minutes of install time.

  • Installation Time for a Hitch on a 2009 Chevrolet HHR
  • For this particular installation I do not see a difference in the installation so I believe the difference is just in the amount of time the manufacturers stated at the time of engineering. The installation is essentially the same for all of the hitches (see link) offered for the 2009 Chevrolet HHR. I would allow a bit more time, maybe 1-1/2 hours, for the installation if working off of the ground without a lift.

  • Do I Need to Trim The Rear Fascia of my 2010 Chevy HHR SS to Install the Hidden Hitch #60815
  • Yes, you will need to cut a 3 inch wide portion in the middle of the rear fascia all the way up to the first bend in the fascia to install this Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4 inch, part # 60815, on your 2010 Chevy HHR SS. To the right there is a picture I took from the installation directions that shows where the trimming of the fascia will be. I have also attached a link to the instructions below as well as a link to a video of the hitch be

  • Drawbar Recommendation for a 2006 Chevy HHR with a Hidden Hitch # 60815
  • I did a little research and found that the draw bar came with your Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar, part # 60815, is the Sportframe Drawbar 4 inch Rise, part # 3594. Since your hitch is a Class I hitch it is not recommended that you use any drawbar other than the one that the hitch manufacturer recommends otherwise you will void your warranty. The reason they are very particular about using the right rise/drop drawbar is that if you were to get rear-ended with your trailer
